SAINTS fans' great week continued last night when Liverpool lost the Europa League final 3-1 to Sevilla in Basle.

That result ensured NO European football for Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne next season - while their former employers are guaranteed a second Europa League campaign.

Liverpool would have qualified for the Champions League had they won, and they took the lead last night through Daniel Sturridge.

But Sevilla hit back to win the Europa League for a third season running.

Clyne exploited space to make plenty of lightning runs down the right in the first half, but his influence waned and his poor clearance led directly to Sevilla's second.

Lovren struggled against the pace of the Sevilla forward line as the game went on, and was exposed by Ever Banega in the build-up to Coke's goal which put the La Liga side ahead.

Defeat continued a miserable week for the centre half, who has also been left out of Croatia's Euro 2016 Championship squad.

Lallana sarted well as his side found space, but faded badly and had become a bit-part player in the game by the time Jurgen Klopp opted to end his misery by replacing him with Joe Allen.

The result followed on from Saints finishing sixth in the Premier League, a club record PL finish for the club.

They only finished above eighth-placed Liverpool for the first time ever.

In addition, Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham eventually finished third in what many had seen as a two-horse title race, overtaken by arch rivals Arsenal on the final day.

And Portsmouth's hopes of reaching Wembley in the League 2 play-off final were dashed by a last minute Plymouth winner last Sunday!
