SAINTS have some tough decisions to make this summer with three players as well as Ronald Koeman having just one year remaining on their St Mary’s contracts.

The most high-profile of those players is Victor Wanyama.

He has been linked with the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal for some time and it remains to be seen whether Saints can persuade him to stay, as they wish to do.

Italian striker Graziano Pelle’s deal is also set to expire in the summer of 2017, along with Cuco Martina.

Pelle, who netted 14 goals in all competitions last season, has shown little interest in exiting St Mary’s.

But he has, nonetheless, been the subject of transfer speculation from Italy, with Lazio, AC Milan and Juventus all big Serie A names heavily linked with a move.

If the rumours are to be believed then Wanyama has been the number one target of North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal basically since the Kenyan arrived at St Mary’s from Celtic in 2013 for £12.5m.

The club, through Les Reed, have tried to negotiate with Wanyama and his agent over a new deal.

But there’s is little indication yet that he is prepared to put pen-to-paper, as several other Saints stars have done of lately.

Wanyama’s former Celtic team-mate Fraser Forster and another former Bhoy Virgil van Dijk are among those to have signed new long-term deals at St Mary’s recently. James Ward-Prowse has also signed up for the long haul.

With little progress seemingly being made on the combative midfielder’s new deal, it is elikely that he could be sold this summer while he still has value.

That is considered the better option, rather than let him walk away on a free at the end of next season.

The 24-year-old pushed for a move to White Hart Lane last summer, but Koeman responded by telling him that he wasn’t for sale and wouldn’t be moving anywhere.

Wanyama was left out of the 3-0 win at St Mary’s over Norwich at the end of August because he was not “mentally and physically good enough to play”.

It transpired that he had held meetings with Saints telling them that he wanted to leave following the club’s exit from the Europa League.

But he was able to refocus, stating that he didn’t “want to remember that situation”, and went onto make 35 appearances last season.

Pelle meanwhile is coming up to his 31st birthday and, for a striker, beginning to enter the twilight of his career.

A new deal is reportedly not off the table for him at Saints, but speculation is rife that the Italy international will head back to his homeland this summer.

Saints are also trying to get Koeman to sign a new contract after he led them to back-to-back record-breaking Premier League campaigns.

Talks between the club and the Dutchman were set to take place after the last game of the season over a new deal.

Martina, meanwhile, the other player out of contract in a year’s time, was signed as defensive back up from FC Twente last summer with Ryan Bertrand out injured.

The Curacao international has played more often than expected with Cedric Soares unable to nail down the right back berth at Saints, but a new deal seems unlikely for a player that came in to the club to make up the numbers.
