SAINTS under-23s began their Premier League 2 campaign in style with a 4-1 win at Liverpool.

Southampton took the lead in the 12th minute after Josh Sims to converted a Yan Valery cross.

Soon after it became 2-0 after Jake Hesketh fired a stunning long-range strike which deflected off the underside of the bar.

Liverpool scored their only goal on 35 minutes when Danny Ings poked in captain Harry Wilson’s cross.

Saints third came in the 52nd minute from Olufela Olomola who smashed home from close range.

Olomola was also responsible for Saints’ fourth after Sims' fine delivery.
