ORIOL Romeu insists Saints have to be more clinical after scoring two goals in their first three Premier League games of the season.

After 1-1 draws at home to Watford and Sunderland either side of the 2-0 defeat at Manchester United, Romeu knows improvement is needed against Arsenal at The Emirates this afternoon.

He said: “We need to be more clinical with a killer mentality. We’ve had a lot of chances, a lot of crosses in open play, and that’s good news.

“We can take something from that and hopefully we can score more goals soon.

“We need to get better and demand a little bit more. Even if we had won the first three games we should be demanding a bit more.

“We need to get the first victory as soon as possible, but it's going to be a good test for us at Arsenal.”

Forster recalls Fraser Forster's outstanding performance in the corresponding game of last season, which was capped by a world-class save from Mesut Ozil, ensuring a 0-0 draw in February.

"It was a tough game, it was hard and we had to defend very well. They had a lot of chances and we needed an amazing performance from our goalkeeper to help us to get that point.

"We just have to enjoy it. It's a nice stadium, it's always good to play in these games."

Romeu has been a regular as Saints’ defensive midfielder in the new diamond formation under Claude Puel and is again likely to be utilised behind Steven Davis and Pierre’Emile Hojbjerg, with Dusan Tadic ‘in the hole’, at the Emirates.

“We’re playing differently in the midfield but as time goes on we will settle down and hopefully recover the ball quicker,” continued Romeu.

“We need to move the ball to control the game.

“Teams don’t feel comfortable when they don’t have it and we can exploit that.”

Romeu started 17 Premier League games in his first season with Saints, following his £5m move from Chelsea last year, but has started all three under Claude Puel.

The 24 year-old Barcelona product said: “We had a very good season last year because we got on very well with each other and that helped us a lot.

“In a long season there are many moments when have to be on the bench, which is hard, but you have to push from the outside.

“Whoever was playing last season did a good job for the team, but every year you have to give more and we know each other better and know what to expect from our teammates.”
