TRAVEL-WEARY Saints have the unenviable task of trying to halt Leicester City’s incredible, year-long undefeated run at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.

It is an assignment that is only made more difficult by the fact that Claude Puel’s side will arrive at the home of the Premier League champions following a gruelling 4,500-mile round trip to Israel after Thursday night’s Europa League draw at Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

The Foxes have not travelled well this term, failing to tally any away points in the Premier League this season.

At home, though, it’s been a different story.

The champions followed up a 0-0 stalemate with Arsenal by beating Swansea 2-1 and Burnley 3-0.

As a result, they have stretched their undefeated league run at the King Power to 18 matches, which includes 12 wins and six draws.

It’s been over a year since they were last beaten in the league in front of their own fans – Alexis Sanchez hitting a hat-trick in the Gunners’ 5-2 romp on September 26, 2015.

Since then, Kasper Schmeichel has only conceded nine goals in those 18 unbeaten games – keeping 11 clean sheets in the process (one of which was against Saints last April).

The only two teams to have scored more than once in the league at the King Power since Arsenal are West Ham and West Brom (both in 2-2 draws).

Saints arrive having kept five successive clean sheets and, despite a punishing trip to Be’er Sheva, will arrive in Leicester with confidence high, and some key men fresh and ready for action.

Top-scorer Charlie Austin, captain Jose Fonte, Steven Davis and Ryan Bertrand will all be in contention after Puel kept them in England to prepare for the Foxes match while the rest of the squad travelled.

James Ward-Prowse believes that the key to Saints’ success of late has been their inpenetrable defence, which has made them very hard to break down.

“I think Fraser will be after breaking his own record again,” he said. “The base of our success is defending as a team.

“We always know that we will score goals and create chances because we’ve got great players in the team, but if we keep the ball out of our net it gives us more of a chance to win the game.”

Ward-Prowse, who started against Hapoel, is ready to take revenge on the Foxes after the 1-0 defeat in April, in which Wes Morgan scored the only goal.

“It has been a disappointing start for them, but our focus is on us,” he said.

“Hopefully we can get revenge on what was a disappointing defeat for us last season.”

The England Under-21 international has been very much a part of Puel’s squad rotation, starting in each Europa League match and in the EFL Cup third-round but only once in the Premier League so far.

The midfielder believes the squad are dealing well with the chopping and changing.

“It’s obviously something we knew was going to happen due to the amount of games,” he said. “You can see from the three different competitions we’ve played that there’s going to be different challenges and different teams set out.

“Everybody’s dealt with that really well so far.”

After making just one Premier League start this term in the 1-1 draw with Watford, Ward-Prowse admits that he is targeting more league action.

“It has been [frustrating] but because of the volume of games coming our way, the manager has got to rotate his squad,” he explained.

He added: “You’ve just got to take the chances when they come.

“Obviously, I’ll try and get some more Premier League starts under my belt – that will be key.”
