Record signing Sofiane Boufal has been included in the Saints squad to face Inter Milan.

The team have landed in Italy and will tonight go through their paces in a training session at the San Siro before facing Inter tomorrow at the world famous stadium as they look to continue their good progress in the Europa League, writes Adam Leitch in Italy.

Boufal, a blockbusting £16m signing, is in Claude Puel’s 21 man squad for the game.

Though Boufal is most likely to be on the bench at the San Siro, he could make his debut during the match as Puel begins to integrate him after he recovered from the injury which has sidelined him since joining.

Charlie Austin, Jose Fonte and Steven Davis, who were all left out for the trip to Israel to face Hapoel Be’er Sheva, have all travelled. Nathan Redmond has been left out to allow him to recover for the Manchester City game.

Puel’s main problems are at full back.

In the left back role he is without first choices Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett, while Cuco Martina is the only out and out right back with Cedric Soares also having stayed at home due to injury.

Puel has been keen to rotate so it remains to be seen whether Sam McQueen will make an incredible first Saints start at the San Siro following his impressive display off the bench in the win over Burnley, bearing in mind Saints travel to Manchester City on Sunday.

Likewise, Martina could be asked to play all three games at right back, with Maya Yoshida potentially able to deputise in either role.

Saints squad: Fraser Forster, Stuart Taylor, Alex McCarthy, Cuco Martina, Jose Fonte, Jack Stephens, Maya Yoshida, Virgil van Dijk, Sam McQueen, Harrison Reed, Jordy Clasie, James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Steven Davis, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Dusan Tadic, Sofiane Boufal, Olufela Olomola, Shane Long, Jay Rodriguez, Charlie Austin.
