SAINTS will assess the fitness of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

Hojbjerg returned from international duty with Denmark early, having picked up a “slight” injury.

Saints’ medical team will also be monitoring Fraser Forster’s condition after he pulled out of England’s squad with a minor injury last week.

On top of that, Ryan Bertrand sat out training with the Three Lions yesterday and is a doubt for tonight’s friendly with Spain at Wembley.

England boss, Gareth Southgate, said: “Both [Wayne Rooney and Bertrand] are being assessed, they had minor issues this morning, so we'll have a look at them as the day goes on.

“They weren't ready to train today so they must be a doubt, but we'll have to look later.”

Claude Puel will be hoping that the aforementioned trio will be ready to face Premier League leaders Liverpool, while also crossing his fingers that the remaining contingent of international stars come through unscathed from their remaining games.

As many as five Saints players are in action today, starting with Maya Yoshida who lines up against Saudi Arabia in a World Cup qualifier this morning.

Meanwhile, Dusan Tadic, who sustained a nasty nose injury during Serbia’s match with Wales on Saturday and will likely have to wear a protective mask as a result, is in Ukraine with his national team for a friendly.

Steven Davis will captain Northern Ireland against Croatia in a friendly at Windsor Park, while Bertrand will be hoping to shake-off the previously mentioned knock to play against Spain for England.

Sofiane Boufal could also be in action at the same time, as Morocco host Togo in a friendly.

James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Redmond came off the bench in England Under-21s’ 3-2 friendly defeat away to France last night.

The Saints pair were stuck on during the second half in Bondoufle, but couldn’t prevent the Young Lions from suffering a first loss in 16 games.
