CHARLIE Austin has netted 46 per cent of Saints’ league goals this season.

The club’s top scorer has scored six of the 13 goals that Claude Puel’s men have netted in 14 matches.

Only one club in the top flight is more reliant upon the goals of their leading scorer than Saints are on Austin.

That club is Sunderland, where former England international Jermain Defoe has struck 57 per cent of the Black Cats’ league goals.

Defoe netted his eighth league strike of the season in the 2-0 win over defending champions Leicester - Sunderland have only scored 14 goals in as many matches.

Only three players have scored more Premier League goals than Defoe, 34.

Alexis Sanchez joined Diego Costa on 11 goals after a quickfire treble at West Ham at the weekend.

Sergio Aguero is next highest on 10, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eden Hazard both have the same number of league goals as Defoe.

Saints striker Sam Gallagher is still one of the leading goalscorers in the Championship.

He has netted seven times for Blackburn so far - only Dwight Gayle (Newcastle, 13), Scott Hogan (Brentford, 11), Glenn Murray (Brighton, 11), Chris Wood (Leeds, 10), Tammy Abraham (Bristol City, 9) and Danny Ward (Rotherham, 8) have scored more.
