Saints are anxiously waiting on the results of a scan on Virgil van Dijk’s injured foot to discover whether he can face Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield.
The big centre half was forced off early in the second half of the 3-0 win over Leicester yesterday after Jamie Vardy stood on his left foot.
Van Dijk is a major doubt for Wednesday night, as is Steven Davis, who has missed the last three matches after picking up a knock, and Claude Puel is waiting to find out whether his star men can play in a massive game.
He said: “Steven comes back a little and we will see this tomorrow.
“For van Dijk he has had a scan and I await the result. For the moment I don’t know the situation.
“It’s a good kick on his ankle and he cannot continue the game yesterday for example.
“I think it’s not serious but I don’t know if he can participate for this game.
“We will see for the next day before the game.”
