SAINTS star Virgil Van Dijk could be sold and replaced by Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho, it has been reported.

A national newspaper claims that Chelsea are the most likely destination for Dutch centre half Van Dijk, who has not played for Saints since he was injured in a challenge with Leicester striker Jamie Vardy in January.

But they are likely to face strong opposition from Saints, who insisted last month that they are confident of keeping Van Dijk, who has a rumoured price tag of about £50million.

Sakho was mooted as a possible target for Saints in January but manager Claude Puel dismissed the idea as "speculation".

The French defender is currently on loan at Crystal Palace and has played a big part in the team keeping clean sheets in its last three games.
