Mauricio Pellegrino has insisted he knows nothing of reports that Virgil van Dijk has met Chelsea representatives over a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Newspaper reports have surfaced this afternoon suggesting the Dutch centre half and his representatives have spoken with officials from both Chelsea and Arsenal over a potential move before the transfer window closes next week.

However, Pellegrino admitted he was none the wiser.

“I don’t have this information,” he said.

“I don’t want to give any opinion about that.

“The Virgil situation nothing changed. I have nothing to say.”

Pellegrino confirmed that van Dijk would not be available for selection for Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield.

Saints will be looking to return to form following their midweek Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Wolves.

“The conclusion for us is we have to learn for every single step, for every single game,” reflected Pellegrino.

“Obviously we want to bounce back. We know that we have a difficult game Saturday away against a tough team.

“We can draw some conclusions from every single experience.

“Obviously we are not happy with the result yesterday, the only positive thing for the future is we have more time to prepare better the Premier League games.

“Hopefully we can change. We need to react on Saturday to show another face.”
