Mario Lemina is touch and go to be fit for Sunday’s trip to Arsenal.

The midfielder has been suffering with a virus over the past week, and though he returned to training today, Saints will assess his fitness ahead of the game at the Emirates.

Saints boss Mark Hughes said: “For the most part we are quite healthy.

“Mario Lemina has been ill during the week and has trained for the first time today. He is weak and has the after effects of the virus but has trained now so hopefully he will be alright.

“Sam McQueen has a groin strain unfortunately so he will miss out but otherwise we are as healthy as we can be.”

Hughes is certainly expecting a very different Saints side to turn up to the one that were soundly beaten by West Ham.

“I expect a reaction, I expect a good one,” he said.

“We unfortunately were poor on the day and I think among other things that’s an indication of how confidence is at the moment.

“We made key errors in the game which led to goals and we never really recovered from that.

“We need to be a little bit more resilient to understand what to do to get back on terms and if momentum goes against you you wait for it to turn and exploit that.

“West Ham is something we can learn from. We have gone through that with the guys and we know what is ahead of us in terms of Arsenal.

“You can’t dwell too much on things like West Ham. You need to take the lessons and move on from it.”
