NIGEL Pearson is hoping to add a defender to his squad before the loan window slams shut this evening.

A deal for Sheffield United's veteran centre back Chris Lucketti fell through yesterday, as the 36-year-old's wife has been taken ill.

Pearson said he will continue to work on bringing a new face in to bolster the squad for the crucial run-in, before the window closes at 5pm.

"It would have been nice to have someone in by now, but with a bit of luck we will have something done on Thursday," said the Saints boss.

"We need to strengthen at the back, that's the area we are looking at.

"With Andrew Davies out long term and Claus' retirement it's an area we do need to look to strengthen in."

Pearson added: "We were trying to do the deal for Chris.

"He wanted to come, but his wife's in hospital, so it's a no go."
