Jan Poortvliet will be in the unusual position of having a few welcome team choices to make for tomorrow’s trip to Coventry.

The Saints head coach has had to pick the bones out of his squad in recent weeks as the gruelling run of seven games in 21 days, which comes to an end at the Ricoh Arena, has caused all sorts of injury problems.

But as Saints go for three wins in eight days, he will be boosted by the return of Simon Gillett.

He could come straight back into the centre of midfield to allow Andrew Surman to play an attacking left midfield role with loanee Jordan Robertson through the middle up front.

Paul Wotton also has a chance of being fit after missing Tuesday night’s win over Norwich with a groin strain.

Michael Svensson is available but is unlikely to be risked.

Poortvliet said: “Simon is back for tomorrow.

“Paul Wotton is training again and hopefully will be fit for tomorrow.

“He’s not 100 per cent yet because he played five games in a row – he was thinking he could play nine games in a row but with the physical effort he puts into every game it’s not easy to recuperate.

“Michael is training at the moment with us and the question is always will he be there Saturday or maybe wait until after the break?

“He will go to the specialist in Italy next week to train there, because he likes to do that.

“It’s good for Michael because when he comes back we need him to be 100 per cent again.”

Gillett looked like a young Alan Ball at the start of the season. He did fade sadly but hopefully he'll come back fitter and won't give the ball away so much. At 23 he'll raise the average age of the side which no doubt Sky will bang on about tomorrow.

I prefer to see Surman and Sniederlin/Cork in midfield. Gillett is too light weight and is very frustrating to watch.
