Svensson hit by illness

MICHAEL Svensson has recovered from his knee problem in time for tomorrow’s game at Reading – but is a doubt after falling ill.

The luckless Swedish centre half looked certain to slot back into the heart of the Saints defence at the Madejski Stadium after overcoming the knee problems that have plagued him since his incredible comeback.

But no sooner was he feeling ready to come back then he has been struck down by illness.

Saints are still hoping he will be available but the final decision will rest with Svensson.

With Ollie Lancashire out through injury and Alex Pearce ineligible to face his parent club, Saints could really do with having Svensson available to partner Chris Perry.

Taint Yorkie, why on earth would we have a go at you. We consider that you are this little amusing chap that just comes on here to say a few odd (and sometimes related) things just to give us a chuckle. You rascal you.

However, we have our work cut out , but if we set our stall out, at the end of the day we could get a result. It's a funny old game and it I am sure it will be a game of two halves, and if we can play as well as we know we can play - then who knows, we might surprise a few people. We know their strengths and we will have to try and beat them on the counter. The lads are up for it and if we can silence their fans we might get something out of this. Can't think of any more right now.

I am positive, and up for it and I will be there to get behind the boys in red and white

Well, Im not normally much of an optimist these days, but I'm going to the game tomorrow and I cant help but think we might just do them? Reading play football, whereas most championship teams just batter us because we're inexperienced, naieve in some respects, weak on the ball and in the air. I think this might be one of our few high points this season. I've got a feeling that Reading wont be able to get the ball off us for long periods, and I think we might be 3-1 up at half time and we'll hopefully withstand a battering in the second half. This is completely dependent on Svennson playing though, and I think he will. If he's got flu, I think he'd rip his own head off to play tomorrow, empty the snot out, and stitch it back on again. He is that determined! If he plays, Im putting £10 on 3-1 saints. If he doesnt, 4-0 reading. Told you I'm not always positive. :-)

I wish I could feel so confident - just lost a big job that everyone was banking on getting...could be a bleak few months should we survive.
Still this is the real world, and footballers and football clubs will start to feel the pinch soon - although I think we already are!

thehutchmeister, southampton says...

Oh, and if Lloyd James plays at right back for any reason, 10-0 Reading! He wont though, and Svensson will play, so Im going 3-1 saints!! Four thousand Saints fans cant be wrong. And I'll be singing 'swing Lowe' all the way through half time, not during the game though.

Looking forward to Reading, should be a good match. Lets hope that we can follow up on what was a possitive second half last week.

Its a pitty we have Reading, in all honesty. As long as we can keep up some sort of momentum i will be happy

How about blooding Racine or Imudia? I'm not a Lloyd James fan either but needs must if Jack Cork has to come in at CB. Either that or play Paul Wotton alongside Perry?

Surely not?

Great to see so much enthusiasm, and I believe it is well justified.

However, it now appears that Rupert Lowe has managed to infiltrate that bastion of football - Arsenal, and has obviously bribed Wenger. You need to see the Saints site to read what Theo (that player we all love and respect) has written - he has definitely been got at. He has actually been persuaded to write lots of positive things about our team and the players who pull on those red and white shirts.

Does this Lowe chap no no bounds - will he try anything to paint an unjustified rosy picture of the team?

I think it is disguting the levels to which he will sink.

Come on Taint - UTS - Saint, this is right up your street

All we need now is for the League to change the rules and award points on the basis of:

a) Opposing managers saying nice things about you,

b) Ex players being charitable,

c) The manager (or current players) saying we're going to turn this around at some point.

Derek, you forgot to mention how Theo also mentioned the need for experience alongside these youngsters, something echoed by many, yet continually ignored by Jan and his Director of Football.

Ultimately, whatever way you want to dress it up, ho matter how many times we all pray that things will change and no matter who is rolled out to convince us otherwise, THE TABLE DOES NOT LIE.

Big Hand to you Watcher! Plus if we got a few more points for a nice stadium, a nice training ground and our superb catering we would walk this league!

Lets not forget the points we would get awarded for comedy value or the number of managers we have had. We would be in the Champions league

Why is it you people take what we say and only come back to slag off the bits you feel you can condemn. How about reading all of each article and commenting overall. Why do you feel you have to come on the site only ever to be negative. Is it something about your lifestyle. Tell me. I am not being demeaning, but you leave each time wondering what the hell is going through your brains. I really want to know where I am going wrong and what I am missing with your complaints.

I don't ever just talk them up, and will not ever believe in my wildest moments that other people or the manager saying nice things will get us a point. It is absolute stupidity to even suggest that, but I know it is only said to mock. I merely mentioned it because here was a well respected professional known to this club who was saying the things that we supporters were saying. In times when a handfull of posters come on this site condemning us for our poritive comments on the quality of football the kids display, I thought it would show you that someone with knowledge of the game agreed with us. Someone who also (like us) thought we were going in the right direction and that we would make it, because there are so many of our own so called fans who cannot wait to write us off as being crap at the drop of a hat.

How about being sensible occasionally. I have repeated over and over again - YES WE DO NEED EXPERIENCE. I do know Jan's hands are tied to some extent, because believe it or not he can only select players from his squad to play each game. Take out of the equation those experienced players we have who are sick, injured, or sudpended, and he really aint got many left You then have to consider that he as manager may see things in training to suggest that certain players might not fit in with his plans for a variety of reasons. We are not there so we cannot possibly know how these players respond in training.

Now (for yet one more time) where do you suggest he gets those players from?

Is it not about time you stopped blowing that same old negativity trumpet and started actually being fair. Fair about the club, the manager, the players, the way we play, and the posters on this site who just want to be fans of the team.

If I see something wrong or feel we played badly, or believed Jan could play different tactics - I have the balls to say it. It may not further my battle against the anti Lowe Brigade, but I do it. Conversely I sing it from the roof tops when I see something that is good or has excited us. Where is the wrong in that?

Your lot however will never post anything that is positive. You either disregard it entirely or post something with your usual spin to make it look like Lowe has somehow managed to influence it in some way for his own personal gain. That is why you are getting no support from those who have no axe to grind with any member of the current board, and is why I believe your numbers on this site are dwindling.

Am sitting back now waiting for all the rage and anger to come back lads, because that seems to be the norm.

And you guys go on about the Lowe spin.

Derek - are you retired?

You have far too much time to be reading that propoganda on the official site! Winky smiley thing!

Not read the article - but it does go to show how des[erate the man is. Why doesn't he talk to MLT or Mike Channon about our current team/squad? We all know why - because they would put a slightly less positive slant with their replies.

Still chin up, tomorrow is another day...and if Reading play fottball we will no doubt shine until a defensive error lets them in! Strange really footballing sides we will compete with - bully boys we struggle with - and let's face it no many teams play fotball in this league. Personally I don't think we mix it up enough. We never seem to be that direct - hoof to the big man up front...oops silly me we don't have one (or the option of one either!).

Holbury - now where's that? Somewhere near Fawley? Must be all those fumes from the refinery!

No not reired or retarded Taint Yorkie.

Just see what is there for all to see, but some seem somehow to see it in a different way to me. Their perogative of course.

Of course we don't have that man up front, so that route one would be a possibility, but we knew that didn't we? Perhaps we would rather play football anyway, and perhaps by the end of the season we will all find out if it works. Cannot see the point in slagging my own team right now because we don't want to slug it out. We have had a couple of seasons of that rubbish and where did it get us. Put us on the verge of bankruptcy, gave us chronic football to watch, and by the way almost got us relegated. Yes, please let us return to that. As I recall there were many people back then who were slating various managers for tactics, style of play, and lack of points. Nothing new then for the moaning minnies eh? At least we have a manager who advocates playing football, and a team who actually try to play and give evrything for the club. Know which I prefer, and if Fawley fumes give me that attitude - keep churning it out Esso. What is your excuse for seemingly being spaced out all of the time?

Portswood Pete, Portswood says...

Why are people slagging off the official site just because it tries to "big up" the club, it's the OFFICIAL SITE you halfwits, what's it meant to say? If you lies, pessimism, innuendo and the end of the world as we know it, look on The Saints Forum, if you want the world with a huge Saints bias go to the OS. You can always do what I do, look at everything from the OS to Sky to BBC to TSF and I judge for myself. I'd rather believe the OS than some fantasist on here or TSF.

The security word is hurt-wife, wtf is that all about???

St.Yorkie, Pocklington says...
9:15pm Fri 21 Nov 08

Spaced out?
Blimey I wish I was!
There are many reasons we all followed the club (past tense) but I've done my fanatical crusade. To me the only fun is the drive there on a Saturday, finding a pub and meet a few mates, enjoying their company. The game itself such as Rotherham was 'kin awful. Then being directed the long way round through the home fans by the old Bill really made the day better (or was it night?)
Lost my desire, lost my passion - but I'm fighting to get it back once Rupes has gone forth and multiplied.
