Jan Poortvliet admitted his side deserved to lose their crunch relegation clash with Nottingham Forest.
Saints are staring right down the barrel as a 2-0 St Mary’s reverse leaves them just one point clear of the drop zone at Christmas.
And with a dismal home record of just one league win all season things are not looking good.
He said: “It was a bad result at the wrong time.
“I think they deserved it. We didn’t do enough to win the game.
“We had not enough power to give them a difficult time and when they scored the goal it looked difficult for us to do it because we didn’t have enough attempts or possibilities.
“It was a disappointing afternoon.
“The only complaint was a little bit about the referee but then you are looking for an excuse.
“We should have done more and had more presence in the game itself and I look especially at the forwards because we didn’t do enough to bring the game to our side.
“The goals were at the wrong moments.”
