Wotte's "mixed feelings"

MARK Wotte tonight told the Daily Echo he had mixed feelings about stepping into the role as Saints head coach.

The club announced shortly after 8pm that Jan Poortvliet had stepped down due to the side’s woeful home form – Saints have won just one of 14 league games at St Mary’s this season.

Wotte has now taken over as head coach on a permanent basis and was due to meet the players at the club’s Staplewood training ground at 9am tomorrow.

The 48-year-old will meet with the media on Monday and did not wish to say much before then.

However, he said: "It is mixed feelings for me. But the club is the most important thing right now. We have to do what’s best for the club, starting today from me."

For full story, see tomorrow's Daily Echo.

I suppose he will have to be briefed on what not to say by the other Dutchman who is also in charge

This is the man Mr Lowe wanted as manager long ago.He will keep us up, just miss the play off places and win the championship next season. Proving to us all RUPERT DOES KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HE IS DOING.Again us Northam fans are the lunatic fringe who get it all wrong.
Can we change our shirts to orange next season please Mr Lowe.

You know,Wotte is worser than Poortvliet.

His nickname in Holland is Mr.Big Mouth.
He should also go,but this is for Jan a stab in the back. When his assistant should take his job over.

You had better start saving hard mate your job will not last long. Hasn't anyone told you what happens to people who manage SFC under the Dark Lord.

Security word boat-size should have been capsize because that is what has happened to our club since the arrival of Askham and Lowe.

Jan did the decent thing.

He knew he was not up to the job so he fell on his sword.

Well Rupert are you as honest and decent as Jan?

We are all waiting.

When are you going to fall on yours?

I don't know if this is true above, but if it is God help us!

I have seen in the paper today he has managed 11 clubs in 15 years i Holland! What the f**k is Lowe tring to prove here? Also if he was his first choice a while back, why has he been only number two up till now. Really does the board really care! This so far really looks so very short sighted, I hope I am wrong!!

When will the board ever learn? 90% of the time assistant managers are complete failures, this is not just in football but in rugby (Andy Robinson) and cricket (Peter Moores).
We have already conducted this experiment three times unsuccessfully, surely the performance of Stuary Gray (woeful), Steve Wigley (almost relegated) and even the experiment with Woodward have been nothing short of painful.
To change the fortunes of the team, you need a change of regime, not an internal promotion.

People are wrong to say that Wotte has been Poortvliet "no.2". Even if that was the case it does not always mean that the number two has to be worse, there are countless cases in football history when someone has stepped up and it works out.
NO, the Saints football management was more nuanced than that. Wotte was the academy director. As far as I understood it he largely stayed out of team affairs unless requested to contribute by Poortvliet. Ergo, he is a new manager, not necessarily inferior, individual, all be it similar and part of what has been there before. Good move I think.

The term “poisoned chalice” was designed especially for this occasion!

Just behind your office door, there’s a flak jacket and in one of its pockets are notes from the previous post-holders.

They all say the same thing, “Good Luck! If the Board don’t do for you' the “fans” will”!

Nevertheless I shall be at the Swansea game supporting you and the lads.

Come On You Saints.

WE should support the new manager and give him a chance to prove himself.I only hope he does the following:
Take the captaincy away from Kelvin Davis give it to and out fieldplayer who can close to the play and givvy players on etc

Play 4.4.2 and drop this unworkable Total football idea

Rest some of our youngster where we can they look tired out

And develop a rapport with the fans something Jan never really did

Is Mark Wotte really as bad as some people are saying? He was Dutch U-21 coach for 2000 - 2002. You don't get to be a natioanl coach if you are no good.

I'snt it about time some of our ex managers spoke up about what goes on behind the scenes and the real reason why they left rather than the bullshit they come out with. But I suppose they sign the RL SECRECY ACT so they cant say a word without being sued. Maybe one of the players old or new my have the balls to tell the truth

How do you know what ex Saints managers have said about their reasons for leaving isn't the truth?

If the Saints will win against Norwich, then Wotte is the right coach.

Then a home victory,and even i will say,he's a great coach.
