Supporters must come out in force to save Southampton FC

THE Daily Echo today calls on every Saints supporter to fill St Mary’s for the next three games to try and Save Our Saints.

Saints’ parent company, Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC, was this morning placed into administration, but that could just be the start of a dramatic slide towards oblivion if everybody with Southampton Football Club at their heart doesn’t pull together. If a buyer is not found quickly, the PLC and the club face going out of business within weeks.

The only way to sustain the club in the short-term is for the fans to show how much they care by buying tickets and turning up to support the team.

Video: "Saints fans have a role to play"

Revenues generated by ticket sales for the three remaining home games of the season – against Charlton on Saturday, Crystal Palace on Monday, April 13, and Burnley on Saturday, April 25 – are absolutely vital.

The future of the club is literally hanging on it.

If there is a sellout for all these fixtures then it will not only boost club coffers and at least allow the team to see out the season, but it will also show any possible investors just what potential Saints has.

Save Our Saints - Let us know what you are doing

We can all remember the heady days of the Premiership when every game was a sell-out and, although a Championship relegation scrap might not be quite so glamorous, the club and the team is calling upon you in their hour of need.

Everybody knows money is tight but with bargain prices of £15 for adults and £5 for concessions for the game and with Crystal Palace’s “Kids for a Quid”

there are opportunities not only to cheer on the team but to help keep the club in existence.

There is not a Saints fan around who hasn’t got a mate who “would go if Rupert Lowe wasn’t there any more”.

Well the challenge is now laid down to them – he and all the previous regimes are gone, they are out of town.

The only show left on is keeping the football club around, not just for now but for generations to come to enjoy and be proud of, just as many generations have before.

Click below to see a video of today's headlines in sixty seconds

Nobody is blaming the fans for the club’s demise, but they can play a massive role in its survival.

It’s not only individual supporters who can play their part, but businesses as well.

Corporate hospitality represents not only a good day out but also another vital lifeline the club so desperately needs.

And any investors out there who were waiting for their moment to strike, well now is the time.

It’s a time to be the saviour, the white knight, to become a hero.

Sadly there are not many of us who have that kind of money, but everybody can still play their part.

Southampton Football Club needs its fans now more than at any time in its past.

If this isn’t to be the final chapter in the history of a glorious club then get down to St Mary’s and roar the team on to victory and the club to survival.

Save our Saints.

Get don to St mary's on Saturday, man and boy, lady and lasses.

Maybe the club could apply to the IMF for some of the $1 trillion it will have to bail out the global economy.

Maybe Gordon Brown could join the SFC board and save the Saints.

Although all supporters should get behind the team, just remember, the money you pay to get in, buy a shirt or what ever from now on will go to the Administrator who will charge fees of at least 500,000 - I should know, I used to work in the industry.

We need to come out of the Board Room and start focusing on the pitch. The players are only going to get distracted by the club's financial situation. The fans have to get behind their team and pack out the stadium. Come on Saints!

You maybe late to the party, Daily Echo, but you’re welcome nevertheless.

I am convinced The Saints will be saved and here is my unsolicited advice to the new owner(s);

First, collect every piece of memorabilia, all references to famous FA Cup runs, especially that of 1976; place inside an old oil drum and publicly set alight. (You may need to have Hampshire Fire Services standing-by for H&S reasons).

Next, bar from entry to St Mary’s and from holding any form of office, all icons and legends; ex-players, managers, officials and staff who were engaged or employed by Southampton FC in the last century.

Make it an instant dismissable offence for anyone in receipt of a SFC salary or reimbursement, no matter how exalted their office, also any contractor, from ever mentioning past glories or the “Dell Days”.

When our team, not matter the echelon, takes to the field again to play its first game under it’s new management, the Saints will then be purged the malignancy of nostalgia and its inhibiting malevolence.

The Saints best days are ahead not in the past!

These last three or four seasons have been not only been disappointing for the this Saints supporter and OAP season ticket holder, but also very disheartening, especially having to listen to people who were once held in high esteem behave like squabbling children and do everything to undermine the club, whilst at the same time professing to have “only the fans at heart”.

A plague upon them.

I would love to be there Saturday as for the rest of the games but I'm in America so sadly all I can do is sit back and listen to the games. But I want to hear cheering in the stadium like I haven't for years upon years! Let's show the lads we're right behind them and show the admin. we're here to stay! Give potential investors something to see how great and loyal of a fan base we have at SFC! COYR!!!!!

I have always understood why people would not set foot in St Mary's while Lowe was in charge. I choose to support the team, not Lowe. Now he's gone there can be no excuses for not turning up. Let us all get behind the team and cheer them on to survival. Let us hope we have now seen the back of this horribly divisive person once and for all.

SOS - SAVE OUR SAINTS

A full house for the last 3 home games of the season really could make the difference to a potential investor.

Mums and dads, bring your kids.

All you Lowe haters no longer have any excuse for staying away. If you really are true Saints fans (and I question that in many cases), come and support the club in its time of greatest need. We seriously risk losing a local football club with more than 100 hundred years of history.

I have been a fan for 55 years (half its history) from Division 3 South days when we got far bigger crowds than the last season or two. I would hate to see it all thrown away.

Now is the time to rally round and make a lot of noise throughout Saturday's game. It will lift the players and give us all hope.

SOS - SAVE OUR SAINTS

after the next three home games there is an 80% chance that the gates will close forever on Southampton football club. So all of you who stayed away because you did not like Rupert Lowe. Can sneak back to mowing your lawns or creeping up to see one of the london clubs play or maybe to P.......
next season and say you supported them at the end. Yet you are also to blame for this and you are, whatever you say. There were other ways to show your frustration peacefully. We did it with Branfoot, on the terraces.
Norwich, Ipswich, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester, Leeds fans all stood by their club through thick and thin. Not our lot, I guess it wasn't in their blood. It hurts I agree to see what happens on the pitch at times. It breaks your heart to think of the great side we once were.
Now it is for everyone, fair weather supporters and die hards to stand together and roar our team into history's sunset. Whilst we sing 'And Now The End Is Near And The Fair weather Fans Did It Their Way.'
Lowe should never have come back agreed but the gates were dropping before that. To walk away until he is gone is giving up. Now We Face The Final Curtain
No season ticket sales until the club is solvent. Thirty million in twenty four days. Thanks for great memories Saints and I will always be Saints until they put me in the ground and beyond.
Just get down there folks and pray for a miracle.
A chapter in history is closing.

Better to be £30m in the red with a new stadium, than to be £50m in the red with an old Subbuteo Ground.

Nice new ground, wonder what it will be used for in the future.
Better to have an old ground and a football team methinks.
Oh and if Pompey can't get a buyer, with all the extra money a premiership team brings in how will Southampton, who wants a league one club with a £30 million debt? £50m, in comparrison yours would equate to £100m in viable business sense.
Bright Spark? Dim Wit more like.

Fair play to you, I couldn't agree more, this club was a really well respected club until the last few years because of people like you.
I hope and beleive that we will be ok even if we do get points deducted and go down to League one, but either way I will be at the game on Saturday with my six year old son, my Dad and my brother, we all have season tickets and will next year.
I couldn't stand Lowe so I'm glad to see that he's gone, I just hope it's not at the expense of this GREAT GREAT club.
I've been to every home game and about ten away games this season, it's not been a good season but I'm a SAINTS fan and I want the best for the boys on the pitch, not the greedy gits sat around a table.
What ever the outcome of the next six weeks, let's show the Country what a GREAT CLUB this is and do our players, our club and OURSELVES PROUD by filling St Marys and singing our RED & WHITE hearts out, we say that we are
"THE PRIDE OF THE SOUTH", let's prove it.
No matter what
FOREVER SAINTS ! ! ! !

Is this the end for Saints or a chance for a proper fresh start, we, you, US could make that difference.

I need to own up.

I posted after the West Ham in August “ what a revelation they were. One touch football played at pace; great width provided by Holmes … Schneiderlin has undoubted class and Gillett was a revelation … but the back four as a unit probably lack a bit of height … I still think Surnam is too good a creator to play at left back …. the greatest credit, however, must go to the management - No hoofing the ball up the park; playing to feet with one touch passing … the players working in triangles as they go forward and hunting the ball in units when possession was lost. - … McGoldrick played the best I have ever seen him .. but I still don’t think he has enough about him … The team looked well motivated and worked hard … we must not read too much into it but what I saw was hugely encouraging …we should be selling some of the more established players on high wages and use the funds to bring in some cover at full back … The whingeing stay-aways missed a treat … Anyone boycotting home games is without doubt harming the club and poor crowds might well be the greatest danger the team and the club face this season. It is likely that this team is too inexperienced and a bit lightweight to challenge for promotion this season but keep the faith and we might build something very good indeed”.

Far too optimistic about how well they would do but otherwise I don’t regret too much of that.

I posted in response to St Yorkie’s repeated calls for a boycott on 27.8.09:

“Wrong thinking Yorkie. The attendance will have no effect whatsoever on Lowe's salary. What it will do is largely determine the success of the team. Think about it. Every 1,000 fewer fans = £500,000 or so loss of income over the season = £500,000 less to spend on players = more players must be sold and/or good players not brought in. The banks now by and large determine how much money is available to be spent on the team … By all means have a go at Lowe - but don't delude yourself that the stayaways are hurting him - they are hurting the team. “

No regrets there either. I’m glad to see Lowe and Wilde gone but the stayaway fans share the responsibility for where we are now – as the Administrator made clear today. Of course, the boycotters are very happy to accept responsibility as they have on this site over the last 48 hours – this is what they wanted, administration and Lowe and Wilde gone.

IF we avoid the points deduction and IF we avoid relegation and IF the club survives and IF Lowe and Wilde don’t buy it back for a song and IF we kick on from there, then I will gladly say that UTS/Yorkie etc were right all along and I and others like me were wrong – and buy them both a pint before the first game of the new era next year.

IF.

Whatever, we are all agreed now. Every person who has ever claimed to be a Saints fan must get on the phone and web to try and get tickets for the remaining games. Full houses at home will make a difference to staying up and attracting investors (and thereby helping ensure that Lowe and Wilde will not return).

The thing that shows how difficult all this is that you being 40-50 million in debt. Taking into account that to build a ground similar to saints would now cost in the region of 70 million. Shows the amount of money that would have to be invested in P...... That is why it is not appealing.
I remember back in the late seventies P.......were a couple of games from going out of the league with Deacon and co.
There is rivalry and rivalry,The idea of your lot going out of the league didn't fill me with any pleasure. For many years it was as long as we are above P....... fine.
There is always that banter. now the tables have turned over the last few years. I have a couple of mates who are P.......fans, they want us to survive, simply because the banter is part of the life blood of both clubs. At the end of the day I wouldn't want to see any club disappear forever even yours.
Look at the writing on the wall mate, this could well await you over the next few seasons.
All the time these business cats rip our clubs off real football is in danger. They use our clubs to play their silly financial games and who suffers we do the fans, no matter which club we support.
If the sutuations were reversed i wouldn't want to see you disappear, where is the fun in that? Just as long as we were above you and could keep the banter going. Once we are gone there is no banter no opposing club to gee up, it is finished. Where is the fun in that?
