MARK WOTTE insists that he and his Saints squad remain fully-focussed on matters on the field after the club’s parent company went into administration.
Saints’ head coach was keen to keep talk to football matters when he addressed the media shortly after Southampton Leisure Holdings’ newly-appointed joint administrator and legal representatives did the same at St Mary’s yesterday.
But with second-bottom Saints in the midst of a relegation battle and with just seven league games left, questions about how the news might affect things on the pitch were inevitable.
Wotte, though, said that from his and the players’ perspective it was business as usual.
“This is not the first time there have been headlines in the papers that don’t concern football business,” he said. “The players are very professional and they were informed by me that there might be a problem with the holding company.
“But on a daily basis we just go out and do our job and it’s for other people to make sure the finances are sorted out. I am only in control of the football business.
“And we are still in the fight and battle to stay up in the Championship.
“For us it’s just about keeping our focus on Charlton at home and we are ready for it.”
