Marc Jackson's consortium move to due dilligence in Soithampton FC takeover

Mark Fry Mark Fry

ONE of the parties interested in buying Saints is set to move to a final stage of due diligence.

The group being led by businessmen Marc Jackson and Stuart Green are understood to have been given the green light to get further access to the club’s books after the Bank Holiday weekend.

However, they are not in a period of exclusivity.

Several potential purchasers have baulked at the prospect of having to put down a non-refundable deposit of £500,000 to enter the final stage of due diligence and gain exclusivity.

But it appears that some sort of a deal has been struck whereby the Jackson and Green group could still be trumped by another other party but can take a closer look at the club’s finances.

It is not clear whether all interested parties who can prove their funds will get access to a final due diligence stage but if so it could be a clever ploy by administrator Mark Fry to move things along with talks having dragged on and on.

no wonder everything has stalled over last week!!!...non refundable half million. If it was needed this is a reminder to fans that Fry has no interest in the football club other than squeezing every penny he can for the benefit of creditors.

The creditors have supplied goods and services in good faith to Southampton FC. They employ people like you and me and are entitled in my opinion to every penny owed, otherwise guess who pays for the loss; yes its you and me.
I am an avid fan but this has to be done correctly or we will be in Div 2 come theend of next season.
Don`t blame Mark Fry, he is only doing his job.

What rubbish?

His job is to get the best deal for the club and not entertain time-wasters that don't actually have the money.

Nothing to do with whether he likes football or not but he is administering a failed business that owes money to banks/ creditors that they want back

In fact is it not about time the Daily Echo printed this fact about Green and Jackson ??? Why not even speak to Barry Beardall LOL ( google his name)

Heres my 2 cents:

Mr fry has to work to gain the best outcome possible for the creditors first then the club.

We can say who we want and don't want but eventually it comes down to who's wallet is biggest.

Yes we would like MLT and his gang but if they are stalling at the 500k deposit even though they have these resources for a 5-year-plan to return to the prem then it is somewhat questionable.

The overseas group??? what are they waiting for? have they placed the 500k if not why?

Nothing now will happen until Tuesday and for us true red and white blooded saints fans thats an eternity.

Fry is doing all he can now. Its finally down to bidders to pull out thier finger.

UTS - you're spot on about those clowns. They're only in it for the short term and will not be able to finance the running of a photocopier company, let alone a football club.

Chris 1991 - I wish you were right about the £100K for Mr Fry - I reckon it could be 5 times that by the time he's finished.

I'd rather start with a clean slate in the Conference than muddle on from crisis to crisis.

A non refundable £500k? What if they complete the DD and find stuff they don't like and walk away, do they lose the £500k? It's like asking someone to buy a secondhand car they haven't seen or driven!

It would appear that none of the prospective purchasers have particularly deep pockets. If they end up over paying for the club they will then have less money to invest in the team.

Fry seems to be trying to get all the creditors money back. If the club is worth enough to cover all it's debts then there was never any need for it to go into administration in the first place because it was still solvent!

They need to take a sensible view. Also Barclays spend many millions sponsoring football and the adverse publicity of crippling a football club as big as Saints has got to be worst than the relatively small amount of money owed.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry this morning? On the one hand we are still going and have a team - but then again for how much longer? Can we expect this to drag out until the next payday?
On the otherhand I have a mate in Manchester who is off to Rome. He's a real Mancunian born and bred in Stretford. He's a top bloke and watches our misfortune from afar with great concern. He's never forgiven Bobby Stokes - but has a soft spot for us. I've wished him well and hope he survives those bl**dy Romans - What did the Romans ever do for us?
Let's face it - we both follow football's ups and downs - but the guklf between us is almost a too bigger gap to comprehend!
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. We used to be rich - now we're poor...where did it all go wrong?
I believe our board settled for us being a mid-table Premier league side and got complacent. Never get the truth of the story behind the missing millions...but all those Managers didn't help closhing with one person?
Oblivion or Division 1 next season - will life go on as we know it?
Feeling a little down at the moment - should be planning for next season - but all I can think about is investing in a MX-5. For more fun and less stressful than being a Saints fan!

Yes - Barclays chose to put us into administration, they didn't have to, and having made that choice why should they get all their money back? By choosing administration they CHOSE to lose money - we might even have stayed up without the administration, it was certainly that which finished us off.

I would guess that Barclays were drawing a line. They probably saw the debt likely to rise now that all the good youth players were sold off and gates were falling. They wanted out before it got worst - so live with it Barclays!

There was a rumour their solicitors had checked out the points deduction with the league before they pulled the rug and were supposedly told it would be ok.

It's time some of these people spoke out so we can seperate myth and fact.

some people on here write utter rubbish and some is driven by miss informed passion.

The Green (& Jackson) bid is a solid bid, neither of these two are the money men behind the bid.

The money is coming from a London company who have financial clout to buy the assets and put a realistic business plan in place.

Stuart Green is the lead and he is a life long fan, un like the Lowe and Cowan.

As for a certain publicity gaining local business man who claims he gave the money to the club to keep it alive... not quite true, he donated £50k... the other £350k was a loan he wants it back.

As for Fry he is doing his job, playing hard ball but time is running out so he has to let the only bid who has demonstrated they have the money to see the books.

Currently the only chance is Green and co and what little I know of Green he is a fan, a business man and he is totally ethical.

don't disagree with he jist of what you say but find it a bit unfair don't you think that you are calling Crouch a publicity gaining local businessman when you don't know him ? or Do you??

I am just glad that he donated the £50k and admire him for doing so, and why shouldn't he want his £350k back?, the important thing is that he is prepared to loan it and keep us alive.

You say you know little of Green then say that he is totally ethical, does that mean Crouchj is not?? and if not what are you basing this assumption on please? like i said I take your point about being annoyed that fans are slagging green off etc when they know nothing or very little about him but just wanted to make my point that thought it was unfair to slag crouch off.

There is nothing wrong with a good healthy debate, but unfortunately many posts on this site seem to imply that "there is only one point of view, and that is mine" !!
It is also adviseable to be very careful regarding statements being made regarding certain individuals and their associates!!
Rest assured that who ever takes over SFC will have gone through a very thorough process, and any "dodey dealing" will be uncovered by due diligence.
My concern remains that either the lack of money or the due diligence process will prevent a takeover by the amended deadline. (unsubstantiated gossip has it that this is now prior to a Football League Meeting, in June, when club registration and fixtures etc are submitted/drawn etc).
So, like most other genuine Saints supporters, I hope that the whole drama does reach a possive conclusion, and that the Administrator does not overstep the timeline with obsesive attention to detail.

If one of the bids is successful we have to give the new owners a chance. Hopefully ticket prices for next season will be realistic. If we can get strong gates next season and pack out for Leeds, Norwich, Charlton esp. we will go some way to climbing the long ladder back to the Premier League. Man City did it, Leeds will be back there within the next 5 years and Forest will surely be sniffing around soon.

I for one am looking forward to League One. We can wipe the slate clean on all fronts. If someone buys us, whoever it is let's get behind them.

As you say, it will change hands again in the future, when the cowboy has put it into administration again, with a further relegation and season starting on minus points!

Mr Fry, by asking for the NON-REFUNDABLE (meaning, if your bid is not successful, you lose it) deposit of £500,000 is making sure of two things:-
a) The bid is a serious one and
b) The bidder has cash available.

If they lose out, then the £500,000 will help pay for Mr Fry's time that they have wasted.

An interesting comment by taylor1066.
After praising Green bid, which he describes as 'a solid bid', he ends his comment with the words: 'Currently the only chance is Green&Co and WHAT LITTLE I KNOW OF GREEN he is a fan, a businessman and he is ethical'!

He starts, as if he is the expert on Green, and ends up with 'what little I know' about the man.

I would point out that the description he gives of Green could equally describe Leon Crouch, who is also a fan, a businessman and is ethical!

The fact is that whoever is going to buy the club for 15 mil has a great deal of money after the purchase. I personaly don't think we need to spend a major amount of money on players. If you calculate the saving on the players that will be leaving you will release a great deal of money. I think we need a couple of big centre backs, somebody hard in midfield and a forward. That's 4 players to add at a cost of 3m. The saving on the wages will pay for this. The big investment will only be needed once or if we get back up. The main thing is getting the price of season tickets right. They need to be priced so we can sell between 15,000 to 20,000. Then we need to have gates of at least 24,000 to 28,000. This can be done, Leicester did last year and look what happened. We need a new manager. Eventhough Wotte has be very active during the last few weeks he is only trying to save his job. We need an English manager that knows the kind of football you need to play in the lower tier. Last year we tried to play passing football and it looked good sometimes but the ball was never hurting the other teams. We need to get back to 4-4-2 and with the players we have now we should be able to wipe out the 10 point deduction within 10 games. If we were able to get 20 points from the first ten games we should be in with a shout. Somehow it seems like a Sunday again.

What was the purpose of it all ? Is it true Marc Jackson was made bankrupt in 2004 ? Come one Echo rather than relying on fed PR. Get out there and do some journalism. Lets have Barry Beardall on the front page of the Echo. What will come out the woodwork if these two get into SFC and their chums ?
its people like you that put people off trying to help the club dont you understand that if someone doest buy the club soon there will be no club at all!!!! i hope if marc jackson does get the club you will be barred for life you ***ing prat !!!!!!

Look, Jackson is just fronting the bid on behalf of the money men. They will own the club not him. He's a broker. And to correct some other ill-advised stabs in the dark at the administrator's fees - they get 10% of the purchase price.

time to smell the coffee - 15000 to 20000 season tickets is a ridiculous expectation, the players we have would not wipe out the ten points ,and we are not going to be able to even keep hold of the losers we have now, accept your fate saints fans we will NEVER return to the premier.

Thanks for reply twice. If you thought it was bad under Lowe. Wait for these two clowns to get involved. Jackson and Green will only be interested in making money out of the situation, end of. All talk as afc bournemouth found out.
Sorry but im obviously thick and missing something, why would anyone else buy a buisness other than to "make money"??? Not quite getting what your point is.
