Saints agree Dyer deal with Swansea

Saints were today hoping to seal a deal to sell Nathan Dyer that could pay the club’s wage bill for another month on a crunch day at St Mary’s.

With the wages of players, staff and management due today Saints have to find the cash from somewhere or face up to a bleak future.

Though Saints were still pressing to finalise a deal to sell the club today, Dyer’s sale could provide another four weeks of breathing space if Swansea complete the paperwork to buy the winger on time – but the move would still have to approved by the Football League.

The Daily Echo understands that a deal has been agreed that will see Swansea pay £200,000 up front in cash with a further £200,000 lump sum to arrive on a set date.

Due to the nature of a guarantee of cash like that, Saints would be able to borrow that amount of money meaning they could fund the wages if it all went through without a hitch.

Saints will have a substantial sell-on clause for Dyer as well as top ups on appearances etc.

The deal was believed to have been agreed several days ago but Saints are still waiting on Swansea to put pen to paper and then hand over the cash.

Saints boss Mark Wotte said: “Nathan is an academy player who had his difficulties at Southampton but because of his speed and his technique he can be a valuable player in the future.

“We reached an agreement with Swansea which everybody was happy with and so wish him all the best."

This is laughable! £400,000 for a player not long after they turn down £1.2m. No wonder we're in the financial mess we're in.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see the back of this trouble maker, but the fee is absurd.

What's next?

£250,000 for Rasiak?

£250,000 for Saga?

Come on Mr Fry, start doing your job properly and act in th best interests of the club.

And how ironic, the security words are DOOR FREE. Very apt considering everything is going on the cheap!!!

They are doing thier job.... and if you think they are acting in the best interests of the club you are mistaken, they are acting in the best interests of the creditors. They have held out as long as they can on the Dyer deal... not much else they could have done.

Our precarious financial position dictates our bargaining power in all of the current issues surrounding the club.

So, to the people on here who seem to be ignoring how the cruel world of business works, I suggest you please hesitate before criticising the administrator, potential buyers, other clubs looking to buy our players on the cheap, etc, etc.

The comments have no constructive value and show more about the person making them than they do about the club and those trying to sort out this mess.

You can't judge a player by his moral compass, only by his abilities on the pitch, and Dyer has a hell of a lot of ability for sure. £400'000 is the bargain of the century for Swansea, its a shame we have been forced into this position.

£400,000 with appearance fees on top and a sell on fee, not a bad deal at all.

Mr Fry is doing his job properly, as administrator his job is to get the best deal for the creditors.

We are unattractive because we are in league one/div 3.

If you buy a Premier League club, you get instant access to large amounts of Sky money, plus advertising revenue and sponsorship. As well as the kudos of owning a Premier League club.

Buying a League One side, even if very cheaply, is a big risk. It would take a minimum of two years to get back to the Prem and it's easier said than done.

That's why Saints are hard to sell.

They were scared of the "one who must not be named"!. However, look at our history...we've had so many great players!. So we can't be that bad?.

These investors will want quick wins for their cash rather than medium term aims. That's why they go for Prem clubs, even if they cost more.

who said it was over night? its been up for sale for ages... and what difference does it make to us? stop worrying. look at sunderland as an example. who'd have thought the deal with quinns gang would have ended up where it is. we need someone to slowly get us back to the championship and then see where we are at. then hopefully the prem. i am still optimistic.

I think that we'll make it back one day but it will be a long, hard road. For now, we need some stability at the club quickly which will give us the best possible chance to sort out the playing staff before next season. We urgently need to offload as much dead wood as we can and try to pick up some of the numerous free agents that are currently out there.

Saints are still a fairly attractive club for lower division pros and so we should still be able to attract players who can do a good job at this level

Well, a Saints fan would think that.

Stepping back from emotion and Pompey are a much much safer investment than Saints right now simply because they are in the Prem.

The Premiership is everything to overseas buyers, I doubt the Arabs even know that leagues beneath the Premiership exist.

It's a status symbol for them, like buying a thoroughbred racehorse instead of an old nag!

Sadly, Saints are an old nag (with potential), but people like the arabs want instant returns and glory.

However, if they really do have the money they say they do, why didn't they buy Arsenal, Liverpool and to a lesser extent, Spurs?

That's what makes me think these Arabs are not in it for the long term and wouldn't think twice of dropping clubs into the mire if it suited them.

Doh, how many comments about Pompy being sold to a rich Arab consortium. You really can't understand why! Could it be their premiership status? The fact the fans didn't boycott the stadium (even though they too didn't much like their chairman) 'coz they realised this would cause the financial ruin of their 'much loved' club? Possibly the fact they have planning permission for a new bigger, better stadium/facilities to rival saints? Maybe because they are not in administration and loosing money hand over fist every day?.... Hmmm let me think, must be one of the options. No you are right it’s all four. I recon they should wait a couple of weeks and buy St Mary’s and move it brick by brick to Fratton, it’s the only chance that there may be some football played there next year

Whilst I feel some sympathy for Southampton, the reality is that you did exactly the same thing to us with Alan Curtis in the mid 80s- £70k for a player at the top of his game!

I thought players could not be transferred outside the transfer window, which opens on 1st July.
Will the bank advance 2 months money on some sort of pre contract agreement ? or is the club still thinking it can operate outside the League rules, no change there then.

'but the move would still have to approved by the Football League.' - should be 'have to BE approved' - grammar
