Matthew Le Tissier expected to be named Southampton FC chairman today

Le Tissier set to be made Saints chairman today Le Tissier set to be made Saints chairman today

THE Pinnacle group are still optimistic of completing their takeover of Saints - despite reports of a late hitch.

Their three-week exclusivity period comes to an end this evening and, by that time at the very latest, they hope to have tied up the loose ends to become the new owners of Saints.

Pinnacle boss Tony Lynam, who is managing the bid on behalf of a wealthy investor, has been working round the clock to resolve various legal and logistical complexities.

It has been reported that the Football League have delayed matters as they examine the full details of the potential bid, which are rumoured to include an attempt to rescind the 10-point deduction.

Click below to see a video of today's headlines in sixty seconds

As reported by the Daily Echo yesterday, Pinnacle have submitted the list of prospective new directors to the Football League, which is one of the last jobs on the checklist. Those names will be revealed when their bid is completed.

The list is known to contain Matt Le Tissier, pictured right, who is expected to be chairman, and Lynam – and it seems increasingly possible that Leon Crouch will be another.

It is also expected that the mystery backer will be on the board and his identity, which has been kept a secret, will be of massive interest to Saints fans.

It will give an immediate clue as to whether they can expect some lavish spending or some more prudent future plans at St Mary’s.

The announcement, when it comes, is expected to take the form of a statement, and a press conference will follow.

It is hoped that the deal will completed early enough that that can take place today.

But if that proves not to be the case, it will be scheduled at St Mary’s for Monday.

If there is some last-minute hitch, then the administrators have two options – either to come to an agreement with Pinnacle to extend their exclusivity period or to turn to another group.

At least two other consortiums are waiting in the wings but both would only act if Pinnacle are not able to deliver their deal.

I would be happy with Strachan or Keegan, i know Le Tiss will make the right choice!

If Matt's boardroom skills are as good as his play,
We'll have a chairman with lots of sway.

If loyalty was rewarded with gold,
Down the swanny we would've ne'er been sold.

Le Tiss was our God'
he was our saviour..
On and off the field the best behaviour!!

With a new board and money to spend,
all debts called off,
a lot will depend.

Wether it's Kev in charge, and I hope that it is..
a squad who will play for us and Le Tiss.

We're better off now
than 3 months ago..

All this puff pastry about new managers is distracting attention from the really important issue... who is the backer and how many zillions is he going to pour into the club? Famous managers and popular chairmen are all very well, and the rumours are cheering people up. BUT if you're stuck in league one it won't make any difference. It will take a few millions to get a team to catch up a ten point deficit and take a top two position. Anything is possible .. with the right amount of money.

CliffordNelson says...

I sincerely hope that there is a top ranked manager who will join our League One club, because anything else will just be a terrible disappointment echoing around St Mary's.

Can you imagine when the curtain is drawn to reveal the next manager? There we are, expecting WGS or KK.

What will we feel if in walks Wotte, Tisdale, Holmes or even the half sainted Nigel Pearson???? And maybe even more importantly: How will they feel???

God help us that this speculation nightmare ends soon.

Cast your mind back ... Didn't Strachan leave Saints and say something about having a hip operation? Has he had it yet? Otherwise he might have to leave again if his name comes up on the NHS waiting list... either way it was the most creative reason I'd heard for anyone leaving a premiership club. Maybe "having a hip operation" was a metaphor for severing contact with Rupert Voldemort.

There is a strong rumour about that the new manager will be Ian Branfoot. Although Letiss had his differences with Branfoot as did the fans he has said on a number of occasions in after dinner speeches that the only way to get out of the lower divisions is route one football and passing the ball is a waste of time. Branfoot was a master of route one tactics. I for one would be glad to see him back, after all he did get us to the Zenith Data Cup Final. He would be my choice in front of Keegan and Strachan who in my opinion are both way past their best. Let's hope this rumour is true.

No messiahs is probably too tame a word, the new team is: chairman: Almighty God; manager: Jesus of Nazareth; and the new physio is going to be the Blessed Virgin Mary. Yes, we’re going to be a real family club again – except for unbelievers of course.
This Pinnacle mob should be warned that any other combination would be regarded as a betrayal of the Club.

there is nothing going on no mellay of journalists etc ...complete waste of time...tried to ask a question to a man in a suite he just smiled without a word and walked off .i felt pretty stupid really

I have said here and read all that has been written on here today with a slightly wry smile on my face.

I find it funny that people think a deal has to be done today. I am as frustrated as anyone else with the wait but sitting here pleading with them to get on with it, do you think that they have time to sit down and read this site if they are getting this deal done.

Today is not the last day to complete the deal, it is the last day of the exclusivity period. All it mean is if they do not get the deal done today, another bidder can come in Monday and sign the exclusivity deal and pay x amount for this meaning Pinnacle cannot complete anything past that point if they have not done so already.

If no-one else does come in then Pinnacle could complete today, Monday, next Friday, who knows.

I just find it funny that things like this can turn normally intelligent people into a wild rabble who lose all common sense and intelligent thought. Be patient and things will get done. I want this to happen as much as anyone else but whining about it on here isnt going to help.

Sky Sports News report at 1320 that the paperwork and money has all been lodged and is acceptable to Fry but the FA are holding up. It seems that the deal has been done in such a way that it wil enable the club to take the FA to court regarding the minus 10 points - the FA will not accept this as they ruled earlier that Southampton Holdings and the club were linked.
Thats the gist and how I understood the report but dont shoot the messenger if its not 100% right.
Sky sports reporter said that Fry left him a message saying he was going into a meeting for 2 hours but expected it to be completed today. Sky have someone camped outside St Mary's.

Oh FFS. Do the Football League actually hate us or something? If they hold up the deal till Monday then surely the exclusivity period will be over and the likes of Mark Jacobs and various 'mystery consortiums' can come in and bugger the whole thing up for another couple of months. Surely they must recognise that it's not in the best interests of anyone to do that?

For fu@ks sake!
Queen to buy Saints:
Saints fans greeted with optimism yesterdays Daily Echo story that The Queen had been to Southampton recently. Although officially the visit of 2 June was to say a fond farewell to namesake cruise ship QE2 roomers persist that she may be the secretive multimillionaire behind the Pinnacle consortium. The Daily Echo has discovered that the Queen spent a considerable amount of her childhood in and around Beaulieu and the New Forest and believes that she may have developed a fondness for Saints as her local childhood team. The Echo has also discovered a number of additional links between Saints and the Queen. They are both from England, both have spent time on Cruise liners departing from Southampton and both have travelled abroad on planes. It is know that the Queen has met Sir Trevor Brooking, Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson, along with David Beckham Alan Shearer, Gianfranco Zola, Steven Gerrard, Tony Adams, Lars Jesper Blomqvist and Peter Schmeichel at various times in recent history prompting our extremely board news room to widely speculate that the future Royal Saints FC may have positions for all of them. Slightly over excited and still at a loose end after this speculation, our roving reporter finished his liquid lunch at The Dolphin Hotel and, because he didn’t want to come back to the office stinking of ale, asked some passers buy what they thought of the story.
Recently repossessed former estate agent Dave O’Gormless of the alley way between the two bits of the Tyrrel & Green looked up from his can of special brew and said “well the Queen does have lots of money and has met many footballers during the course of her official duties, but you wont tempt me back into buying a season ticket until she has personally ordered a nuclear strike on Rupert Lowe, as he is clearly the reason for the recent economic downturn which ruined my life as well as being personally accountable for all the other Saints fans not buying season tickets and therefore causing our financial woes”
Local unemployable Chav Garry and side kick Tracey the Slapper said “Init mush, coz like shes well minted and that init, well good do init, Lowe Out, Crouch Out, no I mean in, Wotte Out, Biggest club, 3 year plan, Pinnacle deal already sealed” before pulling a knife and robbing what was left of our roving reporters Friday drinking money.
Given this level of wordsmithery we have appointed Chav Garry as our new Crime correspondent, he will be starting next month – but it’s cash in hand so no one tell the DSS….

Its not about not reading the comments, I check on here the same as anyone else for any update on the take over.

Some of the comments are actually informative and help the situation. I was merely pointing out in a roundabout fashion that people getting all jumpy and hyped up about something does not really help any situation or probably themselves. Their tickers are probably working overtime.

Plus if you read what I said its also pointing out that a deal does not have to be struck today, hence giving some information amongst a melee of panic and confusion to those who believe it all has to be completed today or it is off.

Lol Alicesdad, yet a bit tongue in cheek, but have you read the Daily Echo ‘stories’ recently. OMG just not news, lies, incorrect or whatever – a plea to the Echo just report the facts as you know them, don’t say what you think you may know, hope to be the case, suspect may be likely, deduce could be happening of feel would be good – just the facts as you know them is fine, cheers
Problem – if Pinnacle is held up for too long, how do we pay the staff (due next week??)
Kinkyboots, love you but please go back to the hospital now – they are waiting for you. If we have the 10 point penalty (awarded for going into administration) removed we will still be in administration. We didn’t run out of cash ‘coz the FL had taken all our points away, we ran out of cash and then the FL took all our points away…

This wasnt said to get into a protracted argument about him.

But, the fact he has given, reportedly, more than £500k to keep the club running and realises his errors is commendable. The other point is he would have been asked to be on the board, not given the money on the proviso that he is on the board, which no-one knows if he is or not. It is the Echo stating that he is a board member when no-one actually knows.

He gave a fact that the everyone believed to be correct on R5. He was not the one who set the club or the PLC up in this way, it was he predecessor/sucessor
.

When looked into there is little that he can be solely blamed for.

What a load of complete rot....

The Football League cannot dictate whether or not a club is entitled to take legal action (or what ever they decide to do).

They could go to the European Courts for a start, look at the Bosman ruling!

Then he surrounded by Sky Sports News correspondents. I was so happy, this is exclusive, i am 100% positive Sven is our next manager.

Hmmm British manager Sven???
Bank of England governor?????
If he came down to act as guarantuer thenwho is the guy with the dosh, that is mega?????
of course If.
i think the deal will go through.
even with money the problem will be tempting quality players to div 1.
we need six good player to come in and we have some good young uns, those players will improve out youngsters.
as for Wotte this guy should not be leeft holding the can. he got lumped with a team at the bottom just got them playing then got slammed with admin. maybe not as manager but there should be a role for this man with out club. I think he has shown a lot of integrity and if it hadn't been the baclroom shambles may even have saved us from the drop.
I know ifelt when i heard it gutted, you don't think he and the players felt the same?

What a load of complete rot.... The Football League cannot dictate whether or not a club is entitled to take legal action (or what ever they decide to do). They could go to the European Courts for a start, look at the Bosman ruling! There is no way this deal is not going to happen today... SKY are still connecting KK with the Managers Job.... Seriously, how cool would that be!!!!!
What you say is spot-on, the trouble is that their inflated sense of self-importance makes them feel that they can do precisely that!
That wouldn’t be an issue, saints could sign the documentation then argue that the agreement was made under duress. If it where true then the league would end up in a serious legal mess, as it’s close to corporate blackmail.

Besides the league have already agreed fixtures. This means that we couldn’t play in the conference therefore we couldn’t be replaced.

It is a very complicated situation.

We have no board,
We are not in administration,
We are still operating as a business (paying the people we owe)

Although we are no longer trading do we still need to transfer shares? It was never going to be a simple process.

They've had weeks & weeks to sort this out!
Several weeks pre-exclusivity and 3 weeks since and still no definitive news. Either they want the club or they're still not 100% sure and unwilling/unable to sign on the dotted line.
They're only buying a football club for christ's sake not the entire city!
They’re certainly leaving things ‘till the last possible minute before making any announcement, good or bad!
To be honest it’s all getting just a bit boring.
It’s only football, not like it’s a matter of life or death or something important.
It’s only a very small percentage of the people who live in Southampton that even care whether there is a football club or not. The rest of the country (and the world ) don’t give a stuff.
So why play the drama out till the fat lady sings!
The Echo has already got LeTiss installed as chairman, KK as manager, and they don’t even know who the potential new owner is!

how do you no this.its the first time ive read this anywhere .is this guess work or fact .who or where is the source so we can all check it out
the 10 point rescinding is in the story above! and its almost identical to what ken bates tried with leeds and it cost them -15 more points, but unluckily for him he had already bought the club as was left with a large amount off egg on his face. if pinnacle are trying to pull this it wont wash, the league would have all clubs who've had deductions screaming for compensation. they wont budge, and that will become clear v soon
sorry should have quoted your earlier piece

i don't think the buyer will pull out over ten points out of 138. I just think they are trying to get a compromise, i don't see this as stopping any deal. Yet they just want the best start possible.
if that was a pre-condition then Fry would not be so confident

take no pleasure in saying i told you what was about to come out!

pinnacle are trying to make the league look like bad guys by saying "look we will buy the club but only if you accept it was never in administrtion and give the 10 points back"

the league just cant afford to do that as i explained, and if thats a deal breaker then its pinnacles doing! ffs if it aint in administration why did they need pinnacle 500k for wages?

Nothing is gonna happen now is it.

Typical. Been following this takeover for weeks like a soap opera waiting for the cliff hanger ending, then it's like a damp squib as if the TV has gone on the blink for the final episode....AAARGGGHH

OMG, holycow - no you special tard. Saints were relegated because they didn't get enough points to stay up, thats why we're starting the new season on -10. So if we appeal and win we'll just have 10 points added on the 09-10 season. Wont take any longer than 1 year to sort. Doh
None of that makes any sense at all.. I suggest your parents get a child lock on their PC

SW - time-full.

Like Matty unbelievable

please note that most of the stories sky get come of this website as do all the rumours and rubbish we constantly get written in the gutter press. Hence you get a source close to the club said. it is some guy on here coming out with his latest rumour.Sky have just copied what the story above says.
I think some of you need to go and take a vallium.
what happens is going to happen.
i would of thought if the deal hinged on that it would have been before the league before now.
all this conjecture is not getting us anywhere.

I feel the deal will go through at the last minute. The FL won't budge they think they're invincible in their ivory towers. If we were Man U it'll be a different story. One rule for them and one rule for us. Especially as they have "ma arse" at the helm. We're going to accept the minus 10 points and get on with it although the FL are wrong....wrong....wr

I think the problem is that because of what has beeen put before the league, they have to seek legal advice. This is why they have not come back with an answer.
Understand that their decision either way makes president. So if they did wrong by saints and give the points back then they are going to be facing the possibility of alot of appeals and claims for damages.
hence the delay the F L are squirming.
What ever they want to do is tied by legal law.So they are not going to solve it five minutes unless they have the answer that suits them.
if they have now laid everything before the F.l. then the F.l. have to look at it and their lawyers.
common sense.
Doesn't mean any deal is off just held up becasue apparantly this must be dealt with before administration is lifted if there is an appeal. If the paper work is signed then no appeal can be lodged.
you have accepted terms and conditions imposed on the club.
However frustrating the delay.

Fry has pointed out to the FA all along that SFC was NOT in adminstration & being a professional administrator, one must assume that he knows what he's talking about!
Therefore the FL has breached their own rules by making the decision to place a sanction against the club.
Pinnacle, wish to have the right to appeal that decision (in a court of law if necessary).
The FL realising that they are in a difficult situation, have attempted to get the potential buyers to sign a waiver of their right to appeal the 10 point deduction.
Whilst holding the "license" to play in the league as a form of blackmail.
This attempt at blackmail must not be allowed to happen and rightly the lawyers are fighting this.
As Ist Viscount
Gordon Hewart said many years ago
"Justice should not only be done, but should manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done"

Pinnacle are holding out for the best deal possible. Crouch has already proved his credentials with his companies as a successful businessman and skilled negotiator. Saints need a strong management team off the pitch, as well as on it....
