Pinnacle back in contention for Saints

THE mystery overseas consortium’s hopes of completing a takeover at St Mary’s yesterday were stunned by the Pinnacle group’s return to the scene.

The worldwide financial services group were initially confident of announcing a deal had been completed after their lawyers had spent two days negotiating with administrator Mark Fry and creditors.

Former Football League chairman Keith Harris – head of Saints’ financial advisors Seymour Pierce – had also been working behind the scenes on their behalf.

But representatives of the overseas group – exclusively revealed by the Echo on Monday as being late arrivers at the bidding table – and their lawyers were totally bemused to find out at tea-time yesterday that Pinnacle, who withdrew from the race on Tuesday, were apparently back in contention again.

Pinnacle’s Tony Lynam exclusively told the Echo last night that “the last 24 hours have been busy, but probably not as busy as the next 24 hours.”

I just think the Pinnacle Group called the Football Leagues bluff. There was a points issue - now the FL has come out and said "No further deduction in the case of Southampton because we have nothing in the guidelines to cover their situation".
I think the reace is well and truly on now for anyone to complete - not just Pinnacle.
For the doubters amongst you out there - I think the Pinnacle bid is to late - someone else will buy the club for less money along with the guarantee of no further points deduction.
Thank-you Pinnacle - we sold two stars for a life line - but got no more deductions.

Play-offs here we come?
Well I don't think so because this lot will struggle to adapt to 1st Division football - look at our recent Cup performances against sides from this division.
So a year of consolidation before the big push in 2010-11.
Feel more optimistic this morning - don't know why, but whether a deal is done today or next month...I believe now we will have a team to follow.

To mirror the previous poster, here we go again. Will someone just buy this club and save it from potential extinction. If we have to have Amish Pony Trap rides around SMS prior to the game and Bar Mitzvah in the Channon Suite, then so be it!!.As long as someone puts us out of our misery. The repercussions and backlash can all happen once the deal is closed, until then lets all keep everything crossed.

My first post so apologies for the ramblings but need to get this off my chest. Like al saints fans I've gone from angry (Lowe), through resignation (relegation), to frustration (purchase)and now Pinnacle are doing the Okey Cokey. I just want someone to buy into what Southampton is really all about. Family club, with real traditions of entertaining football. Winning's great but being entertained and feeling the close knit link with your club is what it's really about, so come on potential buyers show us the colour of your money, get on with it, put someone in charge who we can all relate to and we'll give you all the passion, support you'll need. There is no better club out there, just ask Le Tis.

What will mark fry do now then, allow the two parties to carry on and see which one does the deal first and/or allow pinnacle back in after wasting precious 5 weeks that we didnt have.Bearing mind pinnacle have been through all this. Yes id love to have Mattie on board but the main important thing is we have to get this deal done NOW. Just because the other consortiums havn't said a single thing about who they are or what they will do, doesn't mean they will be any better than Pinnacle.

For all we know, the Swiss group may want to merge us with Pompey.

If fans here are so worried about who may takeover the club, then get up off your backside and set up your own consortium or fans trust to buy the club instead of moaning and yelling abuse at people day in and day out based upon hardly any factual information.

I think the administrator must be getting to the stage now where he loses whatever interest he had in selling the club as a going concern, and will just liquidate it to recover whatever he can for the creditors, which is what he is employed for anyway.

An administrator isn't employed to liquidate assets for creditors but to find the best solution for the creditors.

Best solution is selling as a going concern not to liquidate the assets as they'll be worth next to nothing - stadium not owned, players out of contract, etc.

Not exactly true!
No doubt that any newspaper is out to sell newspapers, duh! But they don't get paid per hit and as far as info about Saints goes, I've been watching Sky Sports online (which is the uber source of info), BBC and the Echo. The Echo has always given me the latest news on saints because the nationals just don't care about league 1 teams as much. If you think that there is no valid opinion on the mess that has been the pinacle takeover, try reading todays business page in the newspaper! 9:16am Fri 3 Jul 09

One thing's for sure, Le Tiss is a mere puppet here not the string puller. He has quite frankly shown himself to be a mere spokesman. He is just window dressing to popularise the Pinnacle bid. When you think about it you don't really want a former star as Chairman, what you need is a skilled manager/coach with ability and drive. The last thing you need is a Chairman who keeps interfering with the manager.

Whoever wins this bidding battle will have to spend a lot and quickly if we are to make something of the season. Last nights' echo reflected on the fact we only have 21 players on the books and some of those look likely to leave.

Whatever happens you have to show a lot of respect to Wotte for holding things together as much as possible. If he had done a runner then it would have been an awful position for any new manager and the players would have no guidance whatsoever. As it is he has served Saints well and whilst he may not become our long term manager he deserves praise for keeping the behind the scenes act together during this crisis.

I think the FL issue was a smokescreen.

This appears to be a classic case of gazundering on Pinnacle's behalf - asking for a last minute reduction in price which is timed to prevent the seller rejecting the lower price otherwise the sale will collapse.

In this case it appears the creditors called Pinnacle's bluff.

I still respect Matty, but Lynam stated that Pinnacle was backed by a single individial whose wealth was in the hundreds of millions. This now appears to be false - so how can we trust Pinnacle?

Wanted: Footballers.

A once thriving football club need new players.

Remuneration is no object as players will not be paid. Must have own transport as the team bus has been repossessed.

Will need to buy, wash and iron their own kit and clean their own boots as all the apprentices are now in the first team.

Posatl applications only please (phones have been dosconnected) in confidence to Mark Fry.

Please send a SAE with application as the club has no funds for return postage.

Also Echo copy writers, please don't confuse the term 'dramatic' with 'tedious', you seem to have been doing that a lot recently

version 2.
Fry; we have been talking to interested parties and we have struck a deal with **** but my fees are so high i want to keep this going a bit longer.

THERE HAS TO BE A POINT TO THESE POSTS? Since when?

Get a grip, these posts have no point, other than to cure boredom or have an occasional rant at world outside.

They also give the Echo a means to fill their pages when they run out things to print. (Most days)

If they are that important to you then there must be far worse postings than this that are messing with your mind.

This is a load of tosh.

Fialka has no money - he's a chancer. Why on earth are they giving him more column inches - he's a fantasist loser who lives at home with his mummy and daddy even though he's 32. How many multimillionaires like at home with their parents in a modest house?

Every claim the Pinnacle Group made has turned out to be complete tosh.

He had Lynam front up his bid because he didn't like publicity and now he's seeking as much as he can get even though his bid has collapsed. He's clearly just an attention seeker - we all know now he's skint.

Why give him more coverage? Please just ignore him!

Guys, listen, we should all boycott the Echo.

I for one am sticking to Vodafone text alerts, which tell me definitely when something has happened.

Good luck if you're going to keep visiting these pages and posting comments; but remember every visit you make here gives the Echo another hit on their site!
Of course you wont be reading this worthing_saint due to your boycott but If I may make a general comment about the Echo:

In the old days the paper came through the letter box once a day and you could catch the sport's news on Solent, Radio 2 etc. Now we have 24 hour news. There isn't more news there is just lots more coverage.

I picture hundreds of Saints fans pressing refresh regularly all day and the Echo feeds them something every so often.

If you watch Sky Sports News for any length of time you see it go round and round with the same stuff - 24 hours coverage of a few minutes news.

If you sum up all the real hard news on the take-over over the past few weeks there are probably 5 or 6 proper developments that you could listen to in 30 SECONDS - the rest is just people at computers waiting, and the Echo feeding them. No wonder most of it is rubbish...

It must be very boring being an Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United or Liverpool fan.

Each season all they have to look forward to is winning and getting the best players bought for their clubs.

They don't have the excitement of seeing who is going to be our manager every six months; an annual boardroom back-biting contest; great escapes (or not) every season, but now we have our very own soap opera!

Agree with you on Le tiss and having a team to support this season coming but as for Pinnacle, as i said earlier they got the contracts just show proof of funding to football league and sign & return should be tied up by 5.00pm don't you think

Well said homegrown, I totally agree, this lot will be eating their words on Monday when Pinnacle have completed the deal and MLT is cooking up the bacon sarnies!

Any company worth its salt will have a PR company to handle matters. Pinnacle clearly haven't. Its been a PR disaster. I would dismiss any genuine attempt by them to buy the club. There are still two genuine potential buyers in the frame. Unlike Pinnacle we haven't had any press from them. Thats because they have a proper structure in place and that includes PR. I certain the club will be bought as it would be a good business aquisition at the very least with the clubs assetts

This is a club with a passionate following
remember who ultimately makes it possible for the club to exist, the payung fans, to all prospective bidders , look at the length of time this has been dragging on, look at the rapidly approaching new season and get on with it. Patience is wearing thin

People are asking for news, but if the Echo publishes a story which isn't 'Club Sold' then everyone will give them stick for making things up. Likewise, people demand updates from TL, but if he speaks to the press then he's somehow not being professional.

The only news the public want is to hear that a deal has been done. It isn't the Echo's fault that this thing is dragging on for months. I'm sure they must be heartily sick of having to dig up three stories a day to feed to the public and that they must want a deal to be done more than anybody.

If it's a strain on fans' nerves then imagine what it's doing to them. They must be too scared to even pop out for a fag in case something happens and they miss it.

Of course people are asking for news and rightly so the echo is a newspaper! It is not about having a go at the echo...nor is it about having a go at the desperate worried fans as you are doing! think about it

I'm really not having a go at fans - I'm just asking them to understand the difficulty the Echo faces.

Journalism in the internet age isn't like it is in Superman, when teams of reporters go off on marvellous adventures together and come back a week later with a scoop. You're basically confined to your desk with constant deadlines that have to be met despite resources being stretched to buggery. It's really not as easy as people might think.

I dunno - I suppose I'm just grateful for the service the Echo provides and hope other people can be as well. (I'd also like them to give me a job but that's another story...)

I'm afraid you two just don't get it. The Football league run the competition under competition rules that are sanctioned by member clubs amongst them WERE Southampton.

Whilst you continue to believe what you say your are wasting your time.

The reason Southampton are a facing this are

1. Poor financial management
2. Poor playing results
3. Poor support from fans when things fell from what they believed is their rightful place.

Nothing else. The Football League wouldn't even ned to be considering the position if those failures were not in place.

Because they have to, they apply the rules that others have to adhere to to play in the competition. Any ultimate failure of the club rests entirely on the shoulders of those in points 1-3 above.

O alright then - here's your scoop:

The reason Pinnacle had to withdraw from the negotiating table is because their real money man was none other than Michael 'King Of Pop' Jackson. Following the singer's sad demise last week, Pinnacle frontman Tony Lynham desperately spent the weekend trying to convince other members of the Jackson family to take over from Michael in providing the cash, but none of them have got any left.

Now, however, it appears that Lynham has managed to source alternate funding from Justin Timberlake. Timberlake, who has built a career out of paying tribute to Jackson, says "It's what he would have wanted".

Should the deal go through, however, Timberlake has insisted he be allowed to play for the Saints in the new position of SexyRightBack.

Right, where's my job?

Naff all. Well done Echo. By the way, I've been supporting the Saints since I saw my very first game at the Dell.. For goodness sake just sign the papers and give us all a break.
By the way found out Lowe has been on holiday in the carabean for the past three weeks and has an unpaid phone bill of £800 just though I'd share this bit of useless information with you.

I was just thinking that this whole takeover saga would make a good film.

Then I realised that absolutely no one would watch it other than Saints fans.

Still, it makes up for a summer without a world cup or olympics.

I just Googled "Gillico", and came up with (among other facinating trivia) the fact that Elizabeth Gillico, was a passanger on the Titanic.
Interesting.

Well I wouldn't.

I've not supported this team for over 50 years to see it go under. I would prefer the devil himself than have no Saints FC.

Anyhow, no-one is seriously suggesting he's on his way back. Although I would p155 myself laughing if that was the only way to save the club after the the successful putsch to get rid of him. Saints fans - don't ya just luv 'em.

Still let's hope for better things.

Tell us more please.

Is your name significant? Is the print company Pindar involved?

St Retford says...

Actually, Andrew Pindar loves his boats so probably spends loads of time in Southampton. And he's wadded. And their symbol is a bird.

QED It's Andrew Pindar. Right?

From The Sunday Times April 27, 2008

Andrew Pindar and family
RESULTS FOR 2008
Ranking: 1446=
Worth: £50m
Source of wealth: Printing

A new racing yacht was commissioned by the print and electronic media company GA Pindar to boost marketing. The business is headed by Pindar, 50, whose great-grandfather ran an eponymous printing group in the 1870s in Scarborough, still the base. Prestigious contracts include Yellow Pages and GCSE exam papers. We put a £45m valuation on the company, largely owned by the Pindar family and trusts. There are other assets.

What in the name of HELL is Mark Fry playing at??, letting Pinnacle back in, (or are they taking the p*ss)after all the time they wasted, he should Tell Pinnacle to get stuffed and take a run and jump
and stick with the Swiss Group.

Do think Mark Fry may have something to do with the Pinnacle Group??

Think about it,

First he chose Pinnacle Group in stead of the Swiss Group and at the end of the 3 weeks of exclusivity period he extended the deadline, and now he has let then return back in the frame.
Ii makes you think.
dont it
very strange!!!!

Well after feeling suicidal last week, it looks like more positive news is round the corner.

What bemuses me with the whole scenario is that supporters haven’t been more critical of Fry. He has made grave mistakes in the whole process of selling Southampton Football Club (ie Exclusivity agreements, all eggs in one basket!! Etc.).

A lot have people have stuck up for Fry and his mickey mouse company. But personally having experienced Begbies Traynor at first hand (as they dealt with a company I used to work for going into administration), It wouldn’t surprise me if he had deliberately dragged his heels on the deal. I know for a fact that when in administration even admin staff are charged at over £100 pound per hour, Fry must be getting charged at least £250 per hour (which is guaranteed, even from donators money). It begs (pardon the pun) the question, would you drag the sale out if you were being paid that extortionate rate?

Apologies for the negative post, but I have experience of “Blagbies Trailing” at first hand, and my impression was they didn’t know there arse from their elbow, yet they still walk away with around £20k, to wind up a £7 million turnover company in one week!!

COYR!!
