Southampton take Graeme Murty on trial

FORMER Reading full-back Graeme Murty is on trial at Saints.

The right back left the Royals at the end of last season after his contract expired.

Mark Wotte quickly moved to ask Murty to come to St. Mary's on trial.

The 34-year-old made over 300 appearances in 11 years at the Madejski Stadium and Elm Park.

Wotte said: "Graeme is a very experienced defender and we will be taking a look at him over the next week or so," he said. "It is important that we do not lose any more time in our preparations for the new season and taking players on trial is an important part of that process."

MW must know that a deal to buy the club is imminent. Otherwise he would not have been given the go ahead for these 2 trialists.

Could be good news, I like the idea of having seasoned pros in League 1 rather than too many inexperienced youngsters. Wages/contrace may be an issue, though!!!

He will be a good signing as he has got the experience that will help us. Also MW must know something, because would you be inviting players for a trial if you did not know about the future. I wouldnt, fingers crossed we hear some good news today or tomorrow.

The fact that any player would want to come to Saints at the moment is a bonus. There must be talk on high about the takeover being completed to allow Wotte to plan ahead.

Gary Neville is crap, I don't want any Man U player I want to see us signing greats from the Conference south or below!

I thought our aims were to reach as low league position as possible!

I honestly think that Mark Wotte has Saints best interest at heart! He wants the club to be great...

I only hope 2 things... this take over saga gets sorted out soon so we can tie him down to a contract... and us fans sing Mark Wotte's Red & White Army... As he has proved that he is Red and White!

good news, at last poitive moves foreward wether it all happens or not (and it has to )we saints have things to look foreward to . I for one have just written out the away games as well as home games I will be able to go to. It looks like we will be giving it a good go at getting out of div 1 wether we suceed or not its great to see some light at the END of the tunnel.Thank you mark for staying and giving us some sort of leadership for the players at this moment in time.

if Murty signs & Lloyd James stays would like to see Lloyd played right midfield & in a position where his crossing ability will be more effective.
