ADAM Lallana struck twice to give Saints a 3-1 victory at Hartlepool tonight.
The result ended a run of three league games without a win for Alan Pardew's men.
Saints fell behind to Andy Monkhouse's header, but they were level by half-time as Rickie Lambert played in Lallana for his first.
The midfielder then scored a brilliant goal after the break, before a horrific error from Hartlepool keeper Scott Flinders gifted Lambert the third.
The only sour note for Saints was Kelvin Davis having to go off with an injury.
All the action as it happened can be found below.
FULL TIME: That's it, the referee brings the match to an end. Important win for Saints at a very tough place to go.
90 mins: Well, it's six minutes of added time.
84 mins: It's all happening now. A crunching tackle on Adam Lallana sparks a melee. Hartlepool's Ritchie Jones is sent off for a second booking. Paul Wotton
also receives yellow, along with Lloyd James and Neal Trotman.
83 mins, GOAL 1-3: Oh dear. Comedy stuff from Scott Flinders in the Hartlepool goal and he gifts it straight to Rickie Lambert, who makes it 3-1. That really
should be it.
81 mins: David Connolly's night is over. He's replaced by Michail Antonio.
68 mins: Paul Wotton introduced for Morgan Schneiderlin, who was booked for dissent earlier in the second half.
61 mins: A blow for Saints. Davis has picked up an injury and has to be replaced by Bartosz Bialkowski.
59 mins: Kelvin Davis makes a brilliant save at close range from Sam Collins' header.
53 mins, GOAL 1-2: It's that man Lallana again. A wonderful strike right into the top corner from 20 yards to give Saints the lead.
46 mins: The second half is underway. No changes from either side at the break.
HALF-TIME: Saints survive some late pressure to go into the break level, at 1-1.
30 mins, GOAL 1-1: Rickie Lambert plays in Adam Lallana and the midfielder equalises for Saints. Ten for the season in all competitions now for Lallana.
21 mins: Andy Monkhouse gets a sight of goal again, but his weak shot is easy for Kelvin Davis.
16 mins, GOAL 1-0: The hosts take the lead, as James Brown's cross is headed in by Andy Monkhouse.
0 mins: We're underway at Victoria Park.
Davis, Murty, Jaidi, Trotman, Harding; Hammond, Schneiderlin, Lallana, James, Lambert, Connolly.
Subs: Bialkowski, Thomas, Perry, Wotton, Mellis, Antonio, Waigo.
Flinders, Austin, Collins, Liddle, Hartley, Behan, Jones, Humphreys, Monkhouse, Brown, Boyd.
Subs: Cook, McSweeney, Sweeney, Fredriksen, Greulich, Clark, Bjornsson.
Referee: Neil Swarbrick (Lancashire).

Lallana's ball to Connelly allowed him to score. And Lallana's perfect run all owed him to score the first goal. Our best player so far this season

I've just returned home after visiting my old home town of Southampton, where I watched the last 3 games. Horrified to see we've reverted to the style at the end of last season. Even at home we don't use the flanks - there must be a lesson for Pardew here. Visiting teams are ripping us apart by using wing play together with crosses from the by-line. (We used to call this football!). Visiting teams also know where to expect kicks from our goalkeeper, i. e. down the right side. They pack this area and win almost every ball. The left side of the pitch is unpopulated, except by the opposition. Sadly, almost every time Lallana gets the ball, the move breaks down. He never uses the opportunity to get down the wing even when it's clear. All he does is turn inside and either make a poor pass, or take an ineffectual shot from long range. He gets goals because he gets good service, which makes him look far better than he really is. Ricky Lambert must be so frustrated at the lack of service. He's a proper centre-forward, and needs proper crosses back to him from the by-line. We are playing like relegation candidates again. The one bright spot of the last 3 matches is the return of Graeme Murty. His experience shines through like a beacon. I fear for our future.

But with Leeds winning we could be 18th next Tuesday, they all know we are coming, our odds for 3-1 will be pants from here on in, APRandWA :))
Do not bet a clean sheet us untill after January. Then do not bet a clean sheet us! ;-)

Dont think we should put a ban on ALL ex-players, can you think of a better keeper to have on the bench if Bally gets injured?
