Saints are going to Wembley.
Alan Pardew’s side will contest the national final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Carlisle at the home of football on Sunday, March 28.
Rickie Lambert, a Dan Woodards own goal and Adam Lallana gave Saints a 3-1 victory on the night in the second leg of the southern area final against MK Dons at St Mary’s. That meant a 4-1 aggregate win with Mark Randall getting the consolation.
Earlier in the evening Carlisle defeated Leeds 6-5 on penalties to win the northern section and book their place at Wembley where they will meet Saints.
KEY EVENTS
• 86: Saints goal. Adam Lallana makes it 3-1 on the night, 4-1 on aggregate.
• 68: Saints are holding on to their advantage knowing they will face Carlisle at Wembley if they get through after the Cumbrian side defeated Leeds 6-5 on penalties.
• 45: Half time. Saints lead 2-1 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.
• 44: MK Dons goal. Mark Randall gets a goal back. Saints have a 3-1 aggregate lead.
• 31: Saints goal. Michail Antonio fires the ball off of Dan Woodwards who scores an own goal to give Saints a 3-0 aggregate lead.
• 15: Saints goal. Rickie Lambert gives Saints a 2-0 aggregate lead.
• 00: Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

I know its only the Johnstones paint trophy, not the champions league but its great for the club and the fans and regardless of how the match with carlisle turns out,after the last few years of turmoil, its a great piece of good news and it will be brilliant for the club and the city. its a big step in the right direction and credit goes to the owner, chairman and mr pardew for putting it together, the players for making it happen and the fans for sticking by the team through the bad times. Now we can look forward to the derby on saturday and if we play well we've got a great chance of getting the win. well done tonight saints and good luck for saturday!

Some good touches from Wagio in that position, good runs from Antonio & Lallana, Jaidi looked like he needs more games.
Very good ref, I really felt I could trust his decisions.
I just wish we could play a bit more decisively, with more intent to kill a game. A better team might have the measure of us over 90 mins, but a win is a win and I will take that any day. I look forward to Wembley, I hope Hammond stays fit; he gives us a little more assurance, well done to all. We needed that before Saturday.

I've been out here for 9 years and this is the second Cup Final I'll miss that Saints have reached! I have fond memories of going to Wembley in 1992 for the ZDS as a 15 year old. While the FA Cup was broadcast on SkyTV here, I don't think there will be any coverage of the JPT Final.
Would love to fly back if I could get a ticket and spare the $NZ3000 for a flight!

Jaidi looked pretty dodgy on the floor and was initially at fault for the MK dons goal. Thomas and Fonte played well, despite Thomas's temper boiling over a couple of times. Waigo was great today, running the whole game and looked the most positive of our players.
Fantastic job with the atmosphere all who went, makes you proud to be a Saint! Roll on the skates Saturday and then Wembley!

I hope that if all 29,000 saints fans go to Wembley, that even the ones that dont sing during games will find your voice to roar the saints to victory..Highlight of the game tonight was chanting their number 3 was a wotsit.. And I have ginger hair too and found it funny!

Thomas was lucky not to get sent off in my opinion - and Jaidi had a bit of a nightmare compared to usual. Great to have Hammond back in the middle. The ref was a bit of an ar$e missing at least 2 penalties - and it seems all an MK Dons player had to do was fall over to win a free kick!
In The Kingsland last night Row KK. Asked to sit down once in the whole game. Atmosphere was electric at times - 1 down and another for Saturday. Back to spirtual home of Block 3 - Skate baiting.
Don't what Markus & co thought - nicely warming up for Saturday...bring it on!!!
