Alex is Saints' second youngest graduate

THE progress made by the latest 16-year-old to graduate from the Saints academy to the first team has been likened to Gareth Bale.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain became the SECOND youngest debutant in Saints’ history when he came on for the last ten minutes of the 5-0 League One win against Huddersfield at St Mary’s on Tuesday.

Only Theo Walcott has played for Saints at a younger age, and the midfielder’s rapid development this season has reminded reserve team manager Stewart Henderson of Bale’s meteoric progress in 2005-06.

Henderson said: “Alex has made a lot of progress in the last year.

“He’s always looked a good footballer but we were a bit worried about his pace and athleticism, but in the last year he’s come on in leaps and bounds in that respect.

“He’s more athletic, gets about the pitch well has very good control and has looked really good.

“I saw him a couple of times for the under-16s last season when there were certain things he now has in his locker that were missing."

..... and going back to the moment the announcer said "Replacing Rickie Lambert is Alexander Oxlade-Chamberlain" it was like an owl convention...... Who? Who?

Obviously not everyone keeps up with the reserve and acadamy news.
Who is next? Jordace Holder-Spooner, Jordan Keegan, Callum McNish, Aaron Racine look at the OS there is some useful talent in the squad.

I've seen this lad playing since he was about 10/11 his dad (Mark Chamberlain) used to bring him into work with him, always had a ball a his feet, it's so good to see him developing through the ranks at SMS, he is a nice lad, not big headed, a credit to his mum and dad, I hope he continues his progress, hopefully by the time he hits 20 he will be a regular and will be in the premier.

Really good to see that despite our new found wealth, we're still investing in what has always been a fantastic youth system.

Not a lad I had seen before. Used to keep up with all the up coming talent when the reserves played at the Dell and SMS, but not now.
It was just a shame he didn't score when he had that golden chance. Imagine what that would have done to his confidence.
This lad has the potential to be a future Super Star.
COYR, 0-3 today, Spider to score

I love watching the res's on Player. After watching the Cherries res game I posted on the face book page. He's a good jinky runner on the ball, on the ball has a go, has nice touch and crosses beautifully. Think we'll see him at Striker or Wing.
He is strong and pacey - beats players, This lad will take the ball into the box past players and score.. I enjoyed watching him
If he is as you say too... the world could be his oyster.. Pards hates weaklings but I heard Chris Templeton mention Pards had his arm around Alex for while before he went on.. Super!

Strange how his old man is a coach, ('til the redundancies are announced Monday at least) across at the blue few (getting fewer by the day) and he chooses to send his son to our academy. Speaks volumes to me.

All you guys making fun of the lad are ignorant – ignorant of what a lot of **** hard work, dedication and effort goes into his success and then some of you are also arrogant enough to think being ‘funny’ about his name is clever. Never mind his name! – he has achieved more success in his short lifetime than you probably have or ever will.

Good luck to the lad and keep up the good work – some of us are very proud our club attracts the best, even among the academy players.

I remember Alex from when I worked with his dad, a really nice lad from a good family. I hope he's not thrust into action so soon like Walcott and Bale were, blood him in slowly like Danny Wallace was

He's sixteen. Will grow another 5 or 6 inches I expect.
Although, since I was sixteen, I seem to have gone backwards

Another positive thing about supporting saints now compared to the last 5 years is that exciting new players coming through are likely to stay with us, at least for a few seasons. When we lost the likes of shearer and Wallace at least had a few years of watching them in the Saints shirt first. That became less than a year with Walcott and Bale.
Good luck nipper.

The nipper is strong, powerful and may well be a Keegan type player.. he seems to have that look about him in the box... he will not be shy to pull the trigger and I suspect he won't miss as many match winning chances as other have in recent months.
