Carlisle United return 10 per cent of Johnstone's Paint Trophy final tickets

WEMBLEY opponents Carlisle are set to return more than 2,500 tickets for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final – but NONE are expected to be made available for Saints supporters.

As reported in yesterday’s Daily Echo, thousands of Saints fans are set to miss out on their club’s big day at Wembley on March 28.

Saints were given an allocation for the JPT final of 44,000 – the maximum one team is allowed – but are well on the way to running out of tickets.

The club yesterday passed the 40,000 tickets sold barrier, even though they have not yet gone on traditional general sale at St Mary’s.

Carlisle, meanwhile, were given a total of 24,506 but told the Daily Echo yesterday that they are expecting to shift no more than 22,000 by the time their sales window closes on March 24.

Saints executive chairman Nicola Cortese has contacted the Cumbrian club and the Football League to see if there was any chance of increasing Saints’ allocation.

But Saints won’t be handed any additional tickets due to segregation reasons, with over 20,000 seats due to remain empty on JPT.

And the fact Carlisle are set to return a batch is also unlikely to boost Saints’ hopes.

As the unsold seats will, in all likelihood, be spread out among the Blues fans’ section, it is expected that they will remain with the League rather than handed to Saints for segregation reasons.

Full story in today's Daily Echo.

I suspect that there are quite a lot of Saints fans with Carlisle tickets already, cannot see any reason for agro, not a local rivalry and no history of trouble between the clubs.
So why the problem? They think all clubs are alike and tar them with same brush.

I think everyone without tickets should turn up on the day and demand entry.
The JPT has never had so much support, good on the Saints fans.
Just goes to show how much support we have.
Not the most glamerous final in the world, but that doesn't stop the desire to celebrate our club.

Likewise! I don't mind getting on the phone early or waiting in a phone-queue. But what has really angered me is that five times this morning between 8.30am and 11am, I've been holding on only to be bumped out of the queue each time after about five minutes!!!!

So, not only have I struggled to get into the queue in the first place, (because you don't join the queue every time you call), I then have to go through the whole process again. I would say that on average it has taken me 15 to 20 re-dials just to get back in the queue without being disconnected immediately.

I'm a patience guy but this really is bad service Saints. Once you're in the queue you should remain there until your time comes to speak to an operator.

sw "drug-time"!!! It certainly might be if this carries on!

Another wonderful example of broken bureacucratic jobsworth Britain - where nobody is responsible and everyone points the blame at someone else for what is a complete fiasco. Why build a £750m stadium if petty rules and regulations mean it can mever be filled?
What is the point of an official whose sole job seems to be to ensure that fans cannot watch their team? Of course the official in question will say that it is not his fault it is the police, and the police will say it is H&S regulations, and H&S will deny this........ it's the same story every time A complete shambolic farce, all ultimately caused by an overcentralised controlling Labour Government.

One problem is that some fans are trying several different tries on different lines, thus swamping the system with excess calls, can't blame the Club for that, not many tickets left and it seems some genuine guys are going to miss out and that is ridiculous when there is room for them, again don't blame the Club, they are doing every thing they can to help, abusing the operators will not help the cause, they have been working their butts off to serve as many fans as they can. Thank you people, COYRs.

Thank your lucky stars you aren't a Chester City supporter, they have just lost their Club, always someone worse of than yourself.

Firstly the club will not be making a penny from the 0800 number - it's a free phone number so is therefore - free!

Try the 01271 335708 - I got through after about 45 mins this morning. Still could not buy an extra ticket for my son as he is not on the database and I already have mine, but was worth a go.

It is a joke we can't get more - although I do have a sneaking feeling that as soon as all 44k have gone we 'might' just get another 6k.

Hope so, there are 1000's like me that want to take relatives along for the day - and as for this STH and loyal fans arguement it's rubbish - we have the opportunity to generate more loyal and long term fans through this final, we should do whatever we can to take it.

Perhaps Wembley management thought that an allocation well in excess of double our average home attendance would be enough for our committed fans. Surely there is also an issue of fairness here in that the event is supposed to be at a neutral ground and filling it 3/4 with Saints fans woud be akin to giving Saints home advantage.

Proves that as a final it lost a significant amount of it's sheen when Carlisle beat Leeds. Had Leeds prevailed we would have a game and atmosphere that would have rivalled any provided by the FA or League Cup finals and now we are left with a game that resembles an early spring picnic than a a trophy worth winning.

Boo Hoo!

STH and regular attendees should be rewarded for their loyalty. If we do receive another 6,000 tickets (we won't btw) then perhaps they should be sold to any fan willing to prove their loyalty and purchasing a 2010/11 season ticket with each cup final ticket to prove your conclusion.

Trouble is on the rare occassion this club has some success we have fans coming out of the woodwork moaning and whinging about being unable to get a ticket. Your argument about loyalty is tired and unproven because the stats tell us that once the memory fades the whingers soon find something else to do than support Saints on more mundane match days.

It's human nature we have an inbred fear of missing out on something but in this case ensure you are a ST holder and the fear will go away.

Better luck next time, provided you don't wait for success again to prove your worth and motivation as a supporter and not just a fan.

The only fans or supporters that will not get tickets are those that are not STHs, friend of STHs or that did not attend either of the semi finals - I don't think that there will be many regular attendees that will miss out. I agree therefore that STH and regular attendees are rightly being rewarded for their loyalty.

My point here is that this offers a great opportunity to increase the fan base and get more people, especially kids, to support Saints rather than walking round the city in Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal shirts!

Just because you are a STH now does not make you a better fan than anyone else - it simply means you have the money, proximity and circumstances to attend games. Good on you, you had first bite of the cherry, I had 2nd as I went to the Semi - I'm simply saying that more Dads could take their sons, daughters etc if the FA and Wembley saw sense and gave us more tickets!!

Back in the day we used to get a voucher for cup runs, if you bought a ticket for each round the club would stamp your ticket, and your kept the stub for that game, if you got to final, you would them produce your voucher (complete with 5 0r 6 club stamps on them) and the stubs from each round at the ticket office at the time of purchasing your final ticket, one final ticket per person, no voucher or stubs you waited for general sale.

Called old fashioned but loyalty was rewarded back then, fairweather fans took the chance on general sale.

I suppose with the on line and telephone booking system it's easier, but looking at the comments it seem's not.

Still don't understand this 'segregation' argument. What's the point of having a 90,000 seat stadium if the H&S jonnies or the sweet FA won't allow them to be filled. Doesn't seem to happen when England play, so why apply the rule for the JPT and Southampton.

The answer is simple, the FA hate us, they always have done. They tried to have us wound up but luckily Liebherr and Cortese came to the rescue. They ensure as many ref decisions go against us as possible. They see situations that are likely to go in our favour and they rule against them. They know that Pompey are our rivals so they do everything they can to help them. The FA don't have a justified reason for hating us, they just do, and that hatred means that half the seats at Wembley will be empty. They don't want the world to know just how much support we do have, they are worried someone might take notice.

They should as they are just stirring at the moment. The cold facts of Wembley Stadium are that to help finance it they offered season tickets for the middle tier and a row on the lower tier on the half way line. These were duly sold and can not be used by clubs. They are a whole different class of seating - padded with access to the restaurants and bars in the complex. You will see some people in that middle tier on the day but it will be sparse. These Club Wembley season ticket holders could buy as many tickets as they wanted for this game as well because about 95% have not taken up the option of their seats. So, a bit like the A-team, if you know where to find a Club Wembley ticket holder - They can help! Bottom line is the FA took a cash injection and a full Wembley for England matches over club competitions. Remember for the FA cup you only get 26,000 so they have been more than generous this time!

WEMBLEY TICKET SALES CHANGE
Posted on: Wed 10 Mar 2010

Due to the impending sell-out of Southampton's allocation of Wembley tickets for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final on Sunday 28 March, there will now be restrictions on remaining sales of the Carlisle United allocation.

This will commence as of Wednesday 10 March as follows:

+ Telephone sales cease at 5pm on Wednesday 10 March.

+ From Thursday 11 March onwards sales can only be completed in person from Carlisle United Main Ticket Office. Postal applications can be made providing it is from a Cumbrian residence.

+ Tickets will be limited to a maximum of 4 per person.

+ All sales will be recorded and tickets will only be sold to those customers with either a Cumbrian postcode, or to those already registered on our system (those fans who have purchased tickets from us before).

Don't thank me but you have until 5pm!

If Leeds had got to the final we all know that each club would have been given 44500 tickets each.
Its rubbish to say that it is impossible to sell the rest.
French Fan. What tends to happen is that Season Ticket holders get to go to the FA cup final for free and can buy other seats if they are available. The tickets all go because it is the FA Cup final not two league One teams! It is a two tier ticket structure where the middle section of Wembley is dealt with separately. They just can't give those seats to clubs. Even if you did have them there is a no club colours rule. I'm sure if you got into that level you would kick up a fuss about that as well.

I would love to but the Misses works and i have a 2yr old girl to entertain.
Couple of years and she will be coming with me, as long as i can keep her away from the Blue side of the family.

I was asking for the JPT final day, whether there was anywhere people were going to watch it.
Apart from Wembley of course.

Why didn't the club go for application forms via the post like they did for Cardiff in 2003, would have solved alot of the problems being experienced over the last couple of weeks. I suppose they would say that this is too labour intensive, but at least everyone knew what they had to do and by when.

I'm not entirely convinced by the Wembley season ticket argument. If Carlisle had the fan base, they too could have applied for 44,000 tickets. This leaves 2,000 for wembley season ticket holders, not 20,000. I would be surprised if nearly 25% of the stadium seats were owned by Wembley season ticket holders and were fitted out with luxury padded seats with access to exclusive bars and restaurants. This seems a massive mis-judgement of seat allocation which i'm sure even the FA wouldn't have done. 2,000 luxury seats sounds much more plausible. By all means correct me if I am wrong on this. This is based on assumptions in my often confused brain and not hard evidence lol!

The way I understand it is that Wembley stadium has been built in such a way that half the stadium is connected through seats, concourses bars etc. And so is the other half. And both halves are segregated from each other. What they are saying is they can't give us more seats as they would be in the other half of the stadium that would be directly connected to the Carlisle fans. It's a matter of logistics, not politics!

In conclusion, if I understand correctly, it is a direct result of a poorly designed stadium that cost £750m and still can't cater for varying home/away crowd sizes!

I have been a Saints supporter for more than 50 years and have attended many great Saints matches including the cup game against Leeds when the lights went out and Derek Reeves scored all 5 Saints goals, via the FA Cup semi-final against Man Utd. at Villa Park, the effective promotion winning game in 1966 at Leyton Orient, the 5-0 defeat of Notts Forest at White Hart Lane, the 1976 FA Cup final, the 1978 League Cup final, Shearer's debut/hat-trick game v Arsenal, the last game at the Dell and the first at St Mary's and the 2003 FA Cup final.

But, as I am no longer a season ticket holder and couldn't get to the MK Dons semi-final, I have been unable to get a ticket to the JPT final. Nor can my son (indoctrinated from birth, despite the best efforts of my Liverpudlian wife to claim his soul, and also a season ticket holder until recently).

Fair play to season ticket holders and those who did get to the MK Dons game, who fully deserve first bite of the cherry (although I'm not sure they should have been allowed 2 tickets each - how many will end up on e-Bay?).

Congratulations to the football authorities for their crass stupidity in letting 20,000 tickets go begging when many Saints fans will have to watch the game on TV and miss the fantastic match day atmosphere at Wembley.

Their arrogance and incompetence beggar belief! How can they even think they deserve to host a World Cup when they can't even organise a JPT final.

It's also a shame for Johnstone's Paint mthat their trophy will be sold short. Maybe we could at least compensate by using their paint when we paint the town red!

Would those who go to the match, please sing their hearts out throughout the game. I will be doubly upset if you let me down. Enjoy the occasion and bring home the cup.

There is no poor organisation just some of you who still haven't grasped that just because Wikipedia says it is a 90,000 seat venue that 90,000 of us can go.

Can we all please get into our heads that there are 20,000 seats that are in the middle tier and two blocks on the lower tier heading down to the pitch on the half way line and are not Wembley's to give away to any club. They are owned by Club Wembley season ticket holders.

Some of you have quoted that the FA CUp is always full well the reason it is full up on Cup final days is that a) the tickets are free to Club Wembley season ticket holders and b) its the FA Cup final!

Season ticket holders at Wembley have an option to take their seats and others for the jpt. It is a whole separate booking system based on moving the season ticket holders around to fill the seats ergo they can't be sold onto clubs as they can't get a block. Also they are padded seats with a whole different set up such as the no club colours rule.

Tickets for jpt in this area cost £58 by the way and you will see some people in the middle on the 28th like me cheering the Saints on.

This picture will give you an idea of how it will look on match day for us. http://pontyclunjuni

Bottom line is they (Wembley) can't block off or general sell those tickets because they are not in an area for general fans. End of!

Its not because they WONT't but more that they CAN'T. The middle tier can never go on general sale to clubs. See all my other posts on the issue. It is just sad that the Echo keeps peddling this view that we are being hard done by when they can see how the stadium operates and know about the section that is Wembley Season ticket holders.

WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN MORE THAN NORMAL AND I THINK THE FA AND WEMBLEY HAVE BEEN EXCEPTIONAL TO GIVE US SO MANY AND LET US HAVE 2/3rds OF THE STADIUM!

2/3rds of the stadium available for sale to us then is more accurate.

On a point of accuracy it may be 17,000 Club Wembley with 3,000 on the upper and ground tier.

Please understand that the whole middle section of Wembley Stadium is not for sale to general fans and in a stadium that size it takes up a massive chunk of the place. It is not suggestion. It is FACT. It is how I have got my tickets - through Club Wembley and I know very well how they do it.

If Leeds had got through we would have had a 30,000 each allocation.

I've been to many league play off finals and other events there and this is how it works.
