Saints sell out Wembley tickets

SAINTS have sold out their entire allocation of tickets for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley.

The club were handed the maximum amount allowed, of just over 44,000, and the last of those were shifted this afternoon.

Tickets for the match against Carlisle, on Sunday, March 28, have only been on sale for just over two weeks.

After season ticket holders and those on the database who attended the area final against MK Dons had their chance to claim seats, there were less than 4,000 remaining for the start of the restricted database sale today.

Those went in about four-and-a-half hours, after phone lines and online sales opened at 8.30am.

But, while Saints will take a tremendous following with them to Wembley, there are likely to be thousands left disappointed.

Phone lines were jammed this morning and supporters struggled to get onto the online booking system, due to the sheer volume of numbers trying to buy tickets.

There is anger and frustration about the prospect of around 20,000 empty seats for the match, while thousands still clamour for a chance to witness Saints' first Wembley appearance in 18 years.

As reported in the Daily Echo this week, Saints are not allowed any more tickets, because Wembley's design prevents fans being segregated properly in the stands, concourses, and turnstiles, if one team takes more than just over 44,000.

Fantastic news - rather have 44,000 with all the JCL's, wives, children & grandparents than not sell them all!

Well done us. I know people are upset about losing out to 'fair weather fans' in the rush for tickets but if this day out adds another few thousand to our average home gate then it will all be worth it.

Surely something can be and has to be done to be able to get more tickets for the final. 20,000 empty seats and so many Saints fans wanting tickets but not being able to get them is an absolute disgrace. Its not as if Saints and Carlisle fans are bitter rivals that require segregation to the tune of 20,000 seats and if Im not wrong in saying the JPT final isn't part of the Wembley season ticket so these seats should be available. I just want to see some sense from Wembley and the Football League to get this problem sorted, as well as the positive advertising for Johnstone Paints if they get a full wembley stadium for their showpiece final. I may have my ticket but it doesn't stop my frustrations for the thousands of fans who won't be able to make the big day due to ridiculous politics, so come on get the situation sorted and lets make Wembley a sea of red and white. If you go to the earlier thread about Carlisle returning its unsold tickets you may find the answer there. There's considerable debate and divided opinion on the matter, but I for one am convinced it's little to do with segregation.

Exactly it. We have taken all we can.

The areas where we won't be sitting due to them being Wembley Season ticket areas are the whole middle and a two large blocks either side oposite the half way line on the lower tier. This picture will give you an idea of what it will be like.

We are already occupying areas of the stadium on the other half of the half way line seating divide so they have been more than accommodating.

The Echo are wrong to say it is for segragation issues. It is purely because the stadium only has 70,000 to sell.

I'd like to think I was a proper fan but I simply can't afford to travel to most / every home game from Taunton.

The best I can manage is about 10 games a season, usually 10 home and 10 away. Hardly worth getting a season ticket for?

I'm not as hardcore as some but think that gives me the right to claim a Wembley ticket above someone who may have gone just once.

Wembley Debenture seat holders don't count for this match as I have friends who hold them in the Club Wembley area who confirmed this.

Shame we can't get this much enthusiasm for the Home games.

Even more of a shame that some seem to have offered their £58 seats to the online touts within the first week of sales, as I can go online right now and buy a 10 seats in the Club Wembley area at £250 each (SFC price was £58 each).

If we make it to the Play-off finals, I hope SFC rethink their policy to stop profiteering and ensure loyal fans (who have attended more than one match) can get the tickets they want. I wanted to buy 3x £58 seats for me and two mates, all of whom had been to every JPT game. As a STH I could buy two but chose to wait so that I could get all 3 together. So I am not impressed to find those sold out and now available on line for someone to profit from. Don't talk to me about loyalty when this kind of thing is happening.

And all this fuss about needing more seats, does anyone actually know if our demand is truly that great? After all, most of the people making comments here have secured a seat anyway.

I remember in the old days at the Dell Saints used to hand out a coupon to everyone who attended a home game early on in the season which gave priority for scarce tickets. They always chose the most unattractive fixture, in order to get the hard-core supporters I suppose. That's how all my mates and I got to Wembley in 1976.
Perhaps they could do something similar next season.
Whatever the reason for giving priority to people who attended the area final, I think people should stop moaning about fair weather supporters, I know people who are flying in from overseas just to be there - are they fair weather supporters?

I mentioned the good old days of vouchers for cup games on the another thread earlier today.

I think it should revert back to the good old days, but fear it won't, I guess on line and phone booking is easier, plus someone is making a few quid out of booking fee, cost of the calls or is it just modern technology gone mad.?

I have been a Saints supporter for more than 50 years and have attended many great Saints matches including the cup game against Leeds when the lights went out and Derek Reeves scored all 5 Saints goals, the FA Cup semi-final against Man Utd. at Villa Park, the effective promotion winning game in 1966 at Leyton Orient, the 5-0 defeat of Notts Forest at White Hart Lane, the 1976 FA Cup final, the 1978 League Cup final, Shearer's debut/hat-trick game v Arsenal, the last game at the Dell and the first at St Mary's and the 2003 FA Cup final.

But, as I am no longer a season ticket holder and couldn't get to the MK Dons semi-final, I have been unable to get a ticket to the JPT final. Nor can my son (indoctrinated from birth, despite the best efforts of my Liverpudlian wife to claim his soul, and also a season ticket holder until recently).

Fair play to season ticket holders and those who did get to the MK Dons game, who fully deserve first bite of the cherry (although I'm not sure they should have been allowed 2 tickets each - how many will end up on e-Bay?).

Congratulations to the football authorities for their crass stupidity in letting 20,000 tickets go begging when many Saints fans will have to watch the game on TV and miss the fantastic match day atmosphere at Wembley.

Their arrogance and incompetence beggar belief! How can they even think they deserve to host a World Cup when they can't even organise a JPT final.

It's also a shame for Johnstone's Paint that their trophy will be sold short. Maybe we could at least compensate by using their paint when we paint the town red!

Would those who go to the match, please sing their hearts out throughout the game. I will be doubly upset if you let me down. Enjoy the occasion and bring home the cup.

We are still a div 3 team attending a Div 3 and below competition.
Hardly the FA cup final against Man Utd.

Good Evening to all you Saints Fans and Congratulations to those lucky ticket holders. Also sincere commiserations to all, whoever you are, who have not been successful.
As always, I have read the posts with interest and the occasional sadness at certain attitudes.
I would like to clear up a few points that others have raised today and over the previous week regarding the distribution of tickets.
Firstly, someone earlier tried to "do the maths" and explain where the tickets should go. Unfortunately their basic premise was WRONG! You see we have approximately 13,000 STH and an average home gate of possibly 22,000. This leads to the incorrect assumption that, allowing for away support, we have a fan base of approx 21,000. Unfortunately, you have to realise that STH apart, the balance of the crowd at our home matches is not always made up of the same 8,000 other fans. With many supporters, for whatever reason only attending 5 or 10 games a season, the actual fan base is closer to 30,000 regular (say over 5 game a season) supporters.
Some of those 30,00 have not been successful due to the second stage of allocation insisted on by Johnstones Paints that priority be given to those who attended the Semi Final. I suspect that many "One time only" visitors to St Mary's have benifited from this decision to gain a final ticket.
As to the issue of Ticket Touts and people selling their "Spare" tickets, there is no evidence at the moment that this has happened! Wembley sell Season Tickets to thousands of people that entitle them to attend England International matches, FA Cup, League Cup, Rugby Challenge Cup etc. These tickets cost upwards of £6,000 per year over an 8 year period. The tickets are NOT usable for the JPT (although Wembley STH do have first option). All unsold tickets are sold on behalf of Wembley by various ticket agencies ie Livefootbaltickets.c
om, tickets4football.com etc. They vary from approx £130 per seat (behind the goals) up to the luxury package of £250.00 per seat in the Bobby Moore Enclosure (on the half-way lie) which includes a hot meal, after-match buffet and complimentary drinks. All Club Wembley seats are padded with arm-rests and larger seats (ideal for someone of my stature). These prices include agency fees and postage etc.
On a personal note, I have only attended 5 games this year with my Wife and two daughters (aged 14 and 10), one of which was at away Walsall. Not understandably, we did not manage to get tickets from SFC for the final. However, we will be attending on 28th March because I have purchased 4 Club Wembley seats, behind the Saints goal at a total cost of £605!
I have supported Saints since January 1963 and will do so for the remainder of my life. More importantly, my daughters are firm fans and the visit to Wembley for the first time will hopefully confirm them as lifetime supporters.
I believe that we all know in our hearts that there are flaws in the distribution of tickets for major matches. This will probably never change but we can live in hope. Until the perfect day arrives, we have to accept things as they are. By all means express your opinions but please avoid the bitterness and abuse which is unnecessary Saints fans. No STH is a greater fan than I, despite the small number of games I manage to attend. Equally, I am no greater than any other Saints fan just because I have spent so much money to be present at Wembley! We are all Red and White at heart and long may this continue! COYR

How about overseas fans willing to spend $3000 to get over the game any chance of a ticket? (I'm not but many may want to)

I wish ticket hunters luck for a fair deal and hope any scalpers rot in a mould grave.

To be honest I can't wait for the game to be over. Any one interested in the chance to send Leeds a message at weekend?

They managed 4-1 over Tranmere.. are we going to show some intestinal fortitude at the weekend and take them apart?

I want the 3pts this weekend more than a free trip to Wembley with air fares. I would love us to take them apart 5-0. But if they do it will still have me asking why we couldn't beat Tranmere and a useless ref.

Still stunned and gutted from the weekend but looking forward to match day. Also looking forward to the remaining chances in the season to see Saints take apart some of the teams below us.... it has to come to give us credibility this season. Otherwise we will be labelled inconsistent and fallible. I truly hope in the remaining games we can bury that myth by dishing up some solid thrashings.

If we put as much energy in to these posts as we can on the day, then we'd d*mn well better bring that cup back to Southampton.

The Paints are coming!!!!

Hello Dan,I would like to send Leeds a message, but I can really print that on this forum, lets hope we give them a thumping on Saturday,we are a lot stronger now than when we played them at Elland Road in December (I am sure Puppiesaint would agree),anything over 3 or 4 will do me,it will shut my mates up giving me stick.

COYR

If you could, you'd be more than a Saint! I'll keep an eye on the posts for an invitation to contact you.

You may have noticed some gaps in my match attendances. That's because I spent 18 years working in the Far East from 1980 to 1998. So I used to pace the floor at midnight 45 (local time) on a Sunday morning waiting to hear on the BBC World Service whether we'd held on to a win or draw.

Whatever, have a great day EVERYONE.

yes, I am spending over $3,000 to come over ... and probably won't be able to get tickets. However, I did plan the trip before Saints made it to Wembley and was looking forward to getting to St Mary's for the Oldham game on the 27th. Was really hoping to bring my kids to their first Saints game, and they have been very excited too. My 7-year old asked me at breakfast last week if he could paint his face red and white for the trip to Wembley. Ah well... it probably won't be, but haven't given up hope.
As for the name-calling as to who's a better fan... I agree, what does it matter; if you're a fan, you're a fan. You go to games when you can, if you can afford it. I went to my first game in 1968, went to the 76 Cup Final and 78 League Cup Final, and travelled to Anderlecht in 1977 UEFA Cup. I've lived in the US for many years now, but still follow the Saints ardently every game day.
Hope everyone who got tickets enjoys the day out. And hope there's a big-screen somewhere in Southampton for us who couldn't get tickets.

So your'e telling me that for the FA Cup final there will be 20,000 empty seats as the fans need to be segregated? Just because its the JPT doesn't make it less important, especially for the fans. Good one Wembley just think what the revenue would be with 10,000 ticks just @ £34 each making £340,000! This is absolute nonsense and talk about bad PR.

I must post this information every day. Can we all please get into our heads that the 20,000 are not because of segregation. They are in the middle tier and are not Wembley's to give away to any club. They are owned by Club Wembley season ticket holders and the reason they are full up on Cup final day is that a) the tickets are free to season ticket holders and b) its the FA Cup final!

Season ticket holders at Wembley have an option to take their seats and others for the jpt. It is a whole separate booking system based on moving the season ticket holders around to fill the seats ergo they can't be sold onto clubs as they can't get a block. Also they are padded seats with a whole different set up such as the no club colours rule. Tickets for jpt in this area cost £58 by the way and you will see some people in the middle on the 28th like me cheering the Saints on.

This picture will give you an idea of how it will look on match day for us. http://pontyclunjuni

mbnails/wembley2.jpg

Bottom line is they (Wembley) can't block off or general sell those tickets because they are not in an area for general fans. End of!

Well I assume everyone who wanted to go has a ticket then.

With all the clamour going on about tickets...not one person on here who wants one has shown any interest in having one with the Carlisle fans!

Segregation at The Final in Cardiff was non-existent. Even though it said on the ticket you would be ejected if you were following the other team - absolutely no one got thrown out. It annoyed me as we had some right gobby Cockney giving it large wanting to have a go at everyone who challenged him being in a dedicated "Saints" area!!!
No trouble though - it will be the same at Wembley.

The offer stands - I'm not trying to make a quick buck, just trying to help out fellow Saints fans!
