Saints announce pre-season tour to Switzerland

First published in Saints News

SAINTS have announced they will travel to Switzerland for a pre-season tour this summer.

The trip was exclusively revealed in the Daily Echo's sports paper The Pink last month.

Saints will fly to Switzerland on Thursday, July 8, and will be based at a resort in Interlaken.

They will play two friendly matches during the trip, on July 13 and 17.

The first is against Swiss top-flight side FC Thun at the Lachen Stadium (kick-off 6pm local time).

As reported yesterday, they will then face French outfit Sochaux at the University Stadium St Leonard, in Fribourg (kick-off 6pm local time).

Saints will then return from the camp on Sunday, July 18.

Great. We know the opposition, we know the venue and we know the kick-off time. All we need now is the Match date! (hopefully, Echo, before too many more comments are added, you will have corrected the article.) PW = lack-trip. I certainly won't be taking a trip down the road from Strasbourg unless I find out the match date :-)

The disappointing thing is that some of us would have liked to have gone to watch these games. Quite a few Saints fans made the trips to Sweden when we were in the Premiership. is there any reason why the tour details have been announced so late? Is it that the club don't want any travelling supporters? Can the club try to give more notice of future pre-season tours in future. In the meantime, Winchester, Havant, Basingstoke and Farnborough will have to make up for the delights of Interlaken.

The part where that rumour (and I think we've all heard it) falls apart is that Alex Curran doesn't have a sister. I know it's harder to accept, but we just weren't very good.

Still, it's not like it matters that much - it wasn't Saints, was it?

Nice to read on the OS about the Saints Foundation and the fact we're stepping up our work for the local community. It's nice to know the owners aren't just here to spend a load of cash on expensive players and then ditch us as soon as we get to the next level - they want to leave a lasting legacy for the people of Southampton, and that's marvellous.

Well I consider myself a bit of a Saints geek and I for one don't know. I mean, I know there's the assoication with the docks and I guess at some point they supplied cranes and things but that's it. I'd be genuinely interested to know what else there is.

When they took over, South Today did a feature on the Charity work M.L's family had done in the area. They have contributed a fortune into local charities over the last 10 years. Buying the Saints wasn't a whim, it was part of a love affair with the City.
Markus is here for the long term, and Saints will be the Number one team in the UK.

Well you learn something new every day. We don't have South Today round my way - it's North West Tonight with Gordon Burns. You turn it on and think "Wicked, the Krypton Factor's back" but then instead of a series of challenges designed to test contestants' mental and physical abilities you get half an hour of muggings in Bolton, robberies in Bury and some bird telling you it's going to rain. I miss Southampton. :(
