Saints included Preston midfielder Darren Carter in their starting XI for tonight’s friendly at Barnet.
Carter is deemed surplus to requirements by North End boss Darren Ferguson and recently spent time on trial at Millwall.
The 26-year-old started his career at Birmingham before moving on to West Bromwich Albion, from where he joined Preston in 2007 on a four-year contract.
Carter played for Millwall in a friendly against Exeter recently but a potential move fell down when the two clubs could not agree terms.

Why are we playing not playing our strongest team yet again tonight? Surely by now we should be full strength getting match practice. We obviously need it after Saturday. Disappointed...not the right preparation for a season we're expected to win...

Of course I'm right behind them every week, but doesn't it make you mad when Pardew sticks out a team like this? I don't care what anybody says, we need to get consistency with a WINNING team...if we're gonna get out of League 1 it's got to be this season, (the owners won't be around for a third year in L1 I can tell you that now) and at the rate we're starting at we won't get off to a flyer and that will be CRITICAL. Winning is a habit. What bot of that do you not understand?

Racine and Holder-Spooner are both promising youngsters, apart from those 2 the others are all first teamers!! Lambert is the only blatant absentee. Don't think you understand the reason for playing friendlies. Yes we need to be winning games, but since when have we had a good pre-season. YOU need to lighten up and think about what you're saying.I trust in AP you obviously don't!!!

Ex-Leeds player Andy Robinson not on the team sheet got a run on late sub!.. some trials going on.. asked on Twitter how Carter went.. mildly curious lol.
I love these games and see them as a way for fans to stay in touch and really support the club. I can't for the life of me see how we can get 13k sths and and only a few go to preseason games... is there no interest in the club except home seats? It's upset me there has been no solent coverage.. and it's due to our club pr people releasing exactly what they like and shutting out the media... thats happened before in history and I don't like it.

In fact I think even the TBT was only on Radio Hampshire. In terms of watching, there is a cost to going to any game. I went to Sutton, and the cost was £10 ticket, £1 stand, £3 beer, £4 food and £12 fuel. Thats £30 for a pre-season friendly. All you see for that is a cr@p pitch, hundreds of substitutions, and players trying not to get injured. I'm single, so money is not so important, but to most I think spending summer money on the kids and nice days out by the beach is far more important. Remember keep the family happy in the summer so they don't moan when you are never there during the season.

Could do a job in league one but no better than what we have got.
Would rather see us go for Oakley.
