Nick Illingsworth says Southampton fans will be shocked by Alan Pardew's sacking

THE chairman of the Saints Trust believes the majority of fans will be "shocked and surprised" by Alan Pardew's departure.

Less than 48 hours after a 4-0 away win at Bristol Rovers, Pardew had been dismissed along with his coaches Wally Downes and Stuart Murdoch.

Trust chairman Nick Illingsworth said: "Timing is everything, and in this case it looks wrong.

"Something has obviously happened very quickly.

"If you were planning to get rid of the manager, why not do it a week ago, or two weeks, or three, or in pre season.

"That at least would give a new manager some time to get to know the players and bring some of his own in if he wanted.

"The club must have someone lined up to come in quickly.

"I would be surprised if a new manager was not in place very soon."

Illingsworrth added: "Personally, I'm not that shocked that Pardew has been sacked, but I am surprised at the timing."

Not a crazy decision. This was only to be expected. If it were not for ML's unfortunate death AP's sacking probably would have happened sooner. Results were simply not good enough at tail end of last season and that carried through into pre-season. One win in the first three league games did AP no favours either.

does all seem a bit odd. Especially after just signing the brazilian. You would think it was Ap who had the final say on it. I believe the new man is already primed up. To be honest im a bit shocked thought Ap deserved a bit longer to turn it around.

The Saints Trust was the organisation that held football club shares in the fans name.
When the PLC vanished, so did the shares, and the Trust is now a defunct entity.
However, Trust or not, the Illingworth clown has never, EVER spoken on behalf of Saints fans, and it is a tragedy that the Echo still values his clueless opinion.

I don't think Guly's signing was AP's choice at all - Nicola Cortese has all the links in Italian football, so I suspect it would have happened regardless of whether AP wanted or not.
That said, I do think Guly is a good signing - something different to what we have already. It will take him a bit of time to settle in though - nothing quite like Lg1 football!
I think it says alot about the NC AP relationship though - if NC truly had confidence in him, would Guly have been signed?

We only lost one game in the last eleven at the tail end of last season !!! Do you seriously think anyone would do any better than that !!!! Pre season means nothing either - they are not results that count !! I could see this one coming for ages but cant believe the timing !! And no .. Alan didn't deserve this either !!

It is the pratt who banne the pies from the ground - probably the same pratt who banned the photographers and reduced the staff and nicked the programmes last season! No pies = No points and now = No Pardew!

Complete and utter madness. Pardew is a quality manager and built a team that would have taken us up this year. Saints fans should be concerned about any director who makes this type of decision. Cortese always seemed to have a problem with Pardew. I think this was more about ego than targets. This club doesn't need another Rupert Lowe?

Last week Guly said "the chairman sold me his vision" (or something very similar), which tells us a lot. Cortese may be a very clever businessman, but he knows d*ck all about football and has so far proved an absolute PR disaster for this club!!

When Pardew joined this outfit they were not far from the drop zone. He turned things around and in a VERY short time and almost did the impossible in reaching the playoffs. I'm a Bournemouth fan and witnessed 1st hand our 2-0 defeat at Southampton. What I also witnessed were the this years league one champions - Yes Southampton. Fact is Saints did not play that well against Bournemouth but I saw enough. Pardew was the man with the plan. BIG BIG MISTAKE. Who ever made this crazy call does not have the interests of Southampton Football Club at Heart. IT IS'NT DISNEY LAND BOYS
