CLAIMS Alan Pardew was sacked as Saints boss because of poor staff morale and player unrest have been branded “bizarre” by club legend Matt Le Tissier.
Pardew, 49, was axed early yesterday morning, after being summoned to a meeting with chairman Nicola Cortese and members of his executive committee at St Mary’s.
Also shown the door were first team coach Wally Downes and goalkeeping coach Stuart Murdoch.
No specific reason was given by Saints for the decision to dismiss the trio.
However, the Daily Echo spoke to sources close to Cortese and the executive committee yesterday, who claimed Pardew had been sacked because of concern over morale at the club’s Staplewood training ground.
Certain members of the playing squad were also said to be unhappy with Pardew and his methods.
But Le Tissier poured scorn on that reasoning, after a scintillating Saints display at the Memorial Stadium at the weekend.
“It certainly didn’t look like any of the players had any problem with the manager when they hammered Bristol Rovers, so it seems a bizarre thing for someone to suggest,” Le Tissier told the Echo last night.
It was also suggested there were concerns regardings the integration between the first team and the new football development and support centre.
Finally, it was also suggested last night that the timing of the sacking, after a 4-0 away victory, at Bristol Rovers, was intentional, with the club wanting to show it was not a decision based on results.
The Echo contacted Pardew yesterday, but he declined to comment on his sacking or the allegations.
In a statement on their website, Saints said: “Following a review of the current status in and around the first team, the club has decided that, to achieve its well known targets, it is essential to make changes to the first team management and coaching.
“These targets for sustained and significant progress embrace both the first team and the football development & support centre as integrated, co-operative units.
“Consequently, the first team manager, Alan Pardew, first team coach, Wally Downes, and goalkeeping coach, Stuart Murdoch, have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
“The Club wishes them well for the future.
“While we have commenced our careful evaluation of our candidates and longer term requirements, Dean Wilkins has taken on the caretaker role for the first team and he will be assisted by Martin Hunter, the Under 21 coach.
“We recognise that frequent changes to the football management are unlikely to assist in the winning of trophies and promotions.
“However, we are taking these steps to achieve our aims, which we share with all supporters, to get promoted this season, and secure long term stability and progress for our football operations.”

I honestly can't believe how backwards you muppets are. The echo has been reporting that AP faced the sack and you lot all said it was Lies, lies, lies - and look what happened!
The most disgusting thing is that NC is now tarnishing AP's name and spreading rumours that ML wanted him sacked last year... You did realize this is all being touted around by NC and the club's press officer.
Please people for once start thinking for yourselves.

I think that any man who can make it big in the swiss banking industry, would not make rash decisions, and would conduct in a thoughtfull and careful way when dismissing one of his top members of staff. I feel for A.P but also have full trust in N.C, that he would have done this with the best interest of the club, which he refers to as `his baby`. Gone are the days when we would lose good managers (such as Strachan) as they were not allowed to spend on the team. and it was a way of a chairman trying to show the blame of poor play to be the fault of managers not a Chairman who was trying to squeeze as many pennies out of the club as possible.
I think that N.C has done the right thing at the right time, and may have even carried out on of M.L`s last wishes, as a mark of respect for the great man. Whoever comes in toi replace A.P will be a manager with drive, determination and a wealth of experience in football managment. And can we please not forget that although M.L was the man who paid for our club, N.C was the man who convinced him to inject the cash needed to not only save our club, but to bring it up to be one of the most envied in modern footbal, with cash not just being spent on players, but the whole infrastructure, to enable us to be a viable business, not just a rich mans play toy. One issue to emphasise my point is the OS Injury and Suspension thread which still has not been populated with any information on injuries, is Mo Gimpel so busy that he cannot keep us up to speed on the progress of the injured members of the squad, particularly Lala, but Frazer, and couple others seen hobbling on crutches during the pre-season friendlies, how are they progressing, and is Murty still receiving help, plenty there to whet our appetite.

We are football fans thats what we want for this club, I do not care who the manager is, who has upset who or what someone reckons because of rumours! Just win games, play good football & make us all proud to be saints fans. NC is in charge for now, lets trust him until he proves otherwise. I didn't comment on any of this yesterday as I was a bit confused by it all, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are factors other than the performance of the first team behind it. Certainly, I've heard reports that there were specific 'non-football' reasons for AP's departure from West Ham. Nicola will never reveal the reasons and I expect Pards is bound by a confidentiality agreement, so neither will he.
But I can't feel too bad about it as I imagine Pards has got the best part of a million quid's worth of compensation and our squad is now so strong I think my two-year-old daughter (who is currently jumping up and down and shouting 'I like goo-goo') could manage us to the title, so everyone will be ok. (She's available for the job btw, if you're reading this Nicola.)
Chins up, everyone.

If you read on the' AP Sacked 'thread to update yourself you would have found a charming letter there posted by me to you and your pal NC is god.
I seem to see about 3 inches above this type a letter that you kindly reproduced so I am about. Perhaps you would like more.?
Have you considered that NC has (in my opinion) most likely just squandered more than £1million of the clubs money on paying off 3 coaches.?
Have you also considered that (it appears) 8 out of 10 fans disagree with the sacking of AP. What if they mount an anti NC protest tonight.? What if they don't even turn up again.?
What happens when the next manager turns into a turnip (in your eyes).?Finally, will you be able to find the heart to cheer on AP's players tonight.? You WILL be at the match I imagine.

Hi Matt.Bit quiet today frenchsaint.... Is it because you realised you talk utter **** and I have been right all along ?? I'd be embarrassed too! hey at least we can ENJOY watching saints now... oh wait you don't watch saints play do you, i forgot!
The coaches were sacked so of course there is going to be some compensation heading their way. When clear it's the right decision we will all think £1million was a bargain to bring back attractive successful football.
The 8 out of 10 fans you talk about may only be from this internet forum, where a lot of fans are over seas supporters, have you considered that the people who hated Pardew still went to support the team and chairman? And what do you mean 'What if they don't turn up again?' Who are you talking about?
I trust that Nicola will make the right decisions for our club so the next manager WILL be better than Alan Pardew.
Finally, I always cheer on Saints no matter what and you and everyother fan will do the same. I WILL be there. Will YOU??

saints til i die wrote:I will be there tonight but if Hart is in charge I will boycott St Mary's and I do not trust NC. Pardew had no connection with the fish fiddlers. On the question of compensation shame it wasn't spent to strengthen the team
