Hope you're wrong Jannersaint. Obviously I only got to listen to the Bristol Rovers game but it sounded like Guly was involved in everything when he came on. Didn't he start the move for the 4th goal? Wish I could get to more games to watch for myself.

He did play a part in the 4th but so could you or I. He got caught in possession when Bristol had given up. Looked askward which migt be his long legs and height (Carlton Palmer anyone?) listening to the radio my first impression seems right. There's only one Ali Dia! What a shame this last 2 days has been. We have no manager and no number 8!!! what the hell happened to the winger that we are desperate for - we need pace!!!!!! I really hope we get a new manager and a loan winger soon - both from Italy I expect. Gutted that we are starting Guly out of position for his home debut! Way to build his confidence!!!! Also Barney has been our best striker this season, why leave him out?? And martin is MILES better than the man with the worst distribution in European football, why has he been dropped?? Don't they say you shouldn't change a winning team?

You're missing my point. He does look poor but I'm always willing to give someone a chance. Just wouldn't do it after Dickson looked so good against Bristol.

Is Guly having a good game right now?

Ridiculous to play him in his first start out of position. Why wouldn't they play Dickson on the left with Guly in the middle? Seems unreasonable, but I haven't seen him play, so I can only go on what Dave Merrington says.
I dunno maybe Wilkins has been at training and seen what he can do and you have been at work doing something else.
Maybe, but it certainly doesn't seem to be working out does it
Nearly set up a goal, but im sure that will get brushed aside. "Oh he is Brazilian, therefore must be Pele" Think about it, he has never played in England and it may take him awhile to adapt. Now go back to sobbing about Pardew.
Maybe I`ve been out of the loop too long............but surely if he has`nt played in England before, and it may take him awhile to adapt.........He should be firstly playing in the reserves.........Oh I forgot, we don`t play competitive reserve team football anymore do we!!!

As for the talk on here about Do Prado (Guly), I went to the Brizzle Rovers game on saturday, he was only on for just under 10 minutes, and it was his first experience of english football, but that doesn't excuse the fact that he had 2,500 saints fans literally laughing at his first 4 touches. Cortese, you may have saved our club with Markus's money but you are not entitled to ruin his legacy. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself the truth - you know little about football.

Markus's family - are you sure Cortese is a fit and proper person to pursue Markus's dream?

Pards, we miss you already. You must be laughing your head off. Quick, bank your severance cheque before it bounces.

Players, you were a disgrace to the shirt this evening. The only consolation is that it wasn't a striped shirt you were wearing.

Wilkins, don't bother to apply for the manager's job. You haven't a clue! A starting midfield of 4 central players - not a wide player in sight until it was too late.

Dave Merington has done far more in football than I could dream of but the man is clearly a buffoon. Suggesting that Cortese “didn’t do his home work on Pardew”

I mean, can anyone cast their minds back a year. Saints were kind of late out of the blocks,. Not just results but there was a small matter of saving the club from extinction and then appointing a manager other than Mark Wotte.

I am appalled by some peoples opinion of Cortese. Someone even had the gaul to say “If we don’t achieve promotion this year will Cortese sack himself”

Not too disappointed to be out of the paintpot, but we must make sure we get out of this doom spiral we're in - let's focus on supporting the the team and Dean Wilkins. Cortese may have made the wrong decision, only time will tell, but he sure isn't going to change his mind. We need to move on and get behind our team. This seems a low point but no way should fans stoop to flying uninformed insults perhaps it tells Katarina to order the sale of the club... then you'll all be sorry.

NC,You may have saved the club with Saint Markus but please dont destroy it again by thinking you are more important than the club.I am sure you have you reasons for all that as happened in the last 48 hours but i,like many others think you have ducked up.
Ensure you read the small print on your contract. You may need it if you have done this on personal reasons not business. Not concerned about losing tonight,Knew we were going to some how. As i have said previous with many others the league is what matters.Typical Saints.I should have been born in manchester !!!!!!!!!!!.Would save me a lot of grief and heartache.

Please guys do not belive Cortese has the Saints best interests at heart! He would have told Markus that we can buy this club, take it from the 3rd tier to the Premiership then sell it!
Markus on the other hand saw the club and supporters for what it was. (he loved it)
Now Cortese has a firmer stand he is trying even harder to earn himself the money (he is a banker)

Suggesting that Cortese “didn’t do his home work on Pardew” I mean, can anyone cast their minds back a year. Saints were kind of late out of the blocks,. Not just results but there was a small matter of saving the club from extinction and then appointing a manager other than Mark Wotte. I am appalled by some peoples opinion of Cortese. This is a disappointing result but at least we won't have any distractions in the spring when focus on the league is critical.

We all have our opinions as to what has happened in the last 48 hours but we don't have the facts. One thing I have observed is that there is no rumour about who we might buy and decisions that are being taken. The Chairman knows how to manage and organisation and will have his reasons for his decisions.

Whatever the rights and wrongs when you look at the team we have one of the best teams not only in League 1 but also in the Championship. It is so very easy to be disheartened after a shock and a defeat but please give the management and the players every support so that we can turn things around and show them that we are as good on the field as we are on paper.

I'm back from the game and I can safely say that the fans that go to watch the games week after week cannot all be wrong. Tonight there was a resounding vocal support for Alan PARDEW!!

I think NC has made some really superb decisions since he's been in charge and only made one mistake. But what a massive mistake that is in sacking AP.

The only straw you Pardew haters have left to clutch at is the "I don't care about the JPT so lets concentrate on the league" line.

Do any of you honestly believe we would've lost 3-0 tonight with Pardew there. Absolutely no way would we have!

NC has a lot to think about. He needs to pull a Martin O'neil out of the hat or someone of that calibre. If he doesn't then he isn't going to get any better than we already had.

The evidence speaks for itself. 4-0 away win.... then sack the best manager we've had since Strachan..... then lose 3-0 at home to an average side.

Cortese's got to have a replacement lined up. Even if Pard's sacking was spur of the moment a decent Chairman would have some kind of Plan B (in case the Prem came calling etc). Wilkins clearly ain't the answer cos the players would've put in a shift tonight if they cared for him. If this drags on for weeks we'll be looking at another season in L1 before we know it. Got to get the right person though, who can command the respect of the players and supporters, and who the Chairman can trust.

Pardew was the man with the respect. This is his squad now he signed these players and worked with them.

He had been right in everything he said. I know tactically he made a couple of errors but look at his record, he won more than he lost and no-one can deny it at least appeared as if there was an air of positivity and strength around Saint Mary's. I was proud to be a saints fan once again. Now we are back to being the laughing stocks of the english game once again, and all without a proper reason.

I really thought the darkest days were behind us, but with pantomime decisions like this, will we ever support a normal club?

You have to lay the result tonight fairly and squarely at Corteses door, it was his timing that was wrong, not necessarily the decision itself. He owes us big time now and I wait with expectation for a top class management team to come in and turn this shambolic mess around. One that can motivate players, who tonight let themselves down, and certainly showed no passion for the shirt, in fact a leaderless rabble. I thought AP made poor substitutions but the choice of keeping Connoly on and taking Butterfield off was poor, Con was already showing signs that his legs had gone, and his losing possession led to the third goal, Jedi was slow and ponderous, where was Martin? Oxo looks the business, and Harding put in a workmanlike shift, I fail to see that Barneys sending off was justified, seemed very harsh, and the Referee tripping Oxo as he tried break through just about summed it all up. The rest were just going through the motions and Lambert was a shadow of himself and last years form. Rant over, so to bed, I didn't fancy the trip to Wembley anyway.

Ok, so my opinion is, NC has made a mistake, but it's done now - over. It's about how he picks the club up from this, who he appoints and where we go from here (hopefully to the Championship!)

Best Saints day of my life was at Wembley last season but I would have traded it in for promotion and that has to be our focus this season.

I was sat in the Kingsland block 33 (usually Itchen North) and i have never been more embarrassed by the lack of support there was no singing no encouragement just a bunch of moaning, whinging, boring people! they would moan when a pass went wrong and gave the occasional clap when the pass when right! We are supposed to support OUR TEAM not get involved with back room politics. Maybe if we had lifted the team instead of the silence & whinging the players would have responded and put in a better preformance, you never know it may have helped! God saints fans are so fickle. Its our team they are our players lets support them now when they need it.

And we are all very grateful. That does'nt mean we have to agree with all his decision making. He bought the club, not the fans. He sacked AP in order to gain promotion this season - his words. If it does not happen, I hope he is man enough to stand up and take full responsibility.

Interesting thought, bloke behind us reckons Cortese has a rubber mask & he's really RL!!Thought the team looked as though they were making a point, hope not, whats done is done, now lets look forward & hope we get another good manager, don't think Wilkins the answer. It was awful dont agree all were bad,Fonte,Hammond,Ha
rding & Punch did try, rest either unfit or uninterested RL slow and static,KD too late too often, RJ past it,the rest just poor. I will be there Saturday & I will be cheering on my team, but please get someone in who can do the job better than Mr Pardew (WONT BE EASY)

The fact they couldnt work together was his statement and I didnt disclose it until after his departure. From the little I saw of him with the players never gave me an indication that he didnt have their respect and support. I also know from several suppliers, sponsors and corporate staff at the club that Cortese is hated and is surprisingly indecisive. Agreed, he saved the club, for a while, not much good if he is going to destroy it again by losing the fan base, there are an awful lot of angry people out there at the moment that want proof that he is going to turn it around, and an explanation of his actions would not go amiss, it might get them back on his side. It is less about what he did, more about why, and what is his solution, throw us some crumbs so that we can believe again. I feel that we are slipping back to the bad times again. I don't need that kind of grief at the moment, It may sound selfish, but I don't think I am alone.

Thanks I picked a hint up from your post about Papa and ANts not coming back... I must say that from the first time I looked at David Bick on the player I was very unimpressed.. I wondered if it was him behind a lot of the pr trouble but feared it may be Nicola Cortese pushing it.

If I read the mali group releases correctly Katarina Liebherr is no fool. I suspect she will be all over Saints if what you say is correct but I still have a feeling that if Markus knew and trusted Nicola so well we must try to stick this out.

I supported Pards all the way but his achilles heel seemed to be the failure to put away mediocre defensive opposition and poor pre-season results, the straw being the loss to Plymouth.
I like to give the benefit and wait and hope for a sane plan B.
I imagine the appointment of a top manager and a couple of loans and few good wins would change things around and he'd be a hero again.
Cheers again

Was at Bristol on Saturday - terrific performance.
Was at St. Mary's tonight - terrible performance. The team looked thoroughly demotivated - some didn't even look remotely interested.
Don't tell me that AP's sacking hasn't affected the team!!
On Saturday, three of the best players were Barnard, Dickson and Martin - all left out tonight - what on earth was Wilkins playing at?
Jaidi has now lost it - he looks and plays like a pub footballer - get rid quick.
What's wrong with Lambert - he looks more out of sorts with every game. He appears to be very tired - physically and mentally?
Don't tell me the JPT is not important - the need to instill a winning mentality is utmost right now (it actually started last Saturday).
The most worrying thing (if you believe Merrington & co) is that there is not a Plan B. They talked about the process of appointing a manager starting next week!!!
If all the stories are true that they (NC/ML) wanted rid of AP for some time, then why wasn't a replacement already in place?
Either NC's actions are very calculated and he know's what he is doing or he doesn't actually have any idea of how to run a football club.
By all accounts his man management & motivational skills are non existent. Not a great asset when we need some stability right now.

Alan Pardew took over a de-motivated and low morale team and within ONE season got silverware! if there was no 10 point deduction he would of ended up in the play-offs and probably got promoted, I mean Nicole Cortese could not wait because he didnt like AP, The thing is the only reason why he got sacked is probably over getting another striker in have cover with RL but the problem lies is NC is a pen pushing **** and proves to have no clue, if AP didnt get saints promoted this season ok sacked but as likes of Matt Le tisser says its bizzare and stupid to be sacked at this stage of the season and I can tell you now not even Martin O Neil came in we will not get saints promoted, He will want to get his own players in then also he wants his OWN assistant and first team coach and Goalkeeping coach, ITS just constant change, no stability, AP was doing well, kicked start of our season against Bristol but NC is a dickhead and up his own **** because he is not professional thats the simple fact!

Much of what has been written on here tonight is unbelieveable. Apart from the idiot I had the misfortune to sit next to tonight, do we seriously believe, just over a year since we nearly became extinct, that Nicola Cortese is as bad as/worse than L*we? Are we all convinced that Alan Pardew was the tactical genius all the amnesiacs now claim he was? Who, with the possible exception of his agent, has ever mentioned Paul Hart as a candidate for the job? Who, with any authority, has mentioned anyone else? Apart from the poor performance by many of the players tonight, I was even more embarrassed by the lemming-like intelligence of too much of the home support (those of you who, in fairness, could be bothered). Particularly the **** sat next to me, who would probably disagree with timings on his own microwave.

Last nights performance was similar to some awaay from SMS last season when Pardew was in charge!
Look if the players aren't interested - what can a manager do?
7,500 people payed good money to see a team performance and a win. I was sat in The Northam - and honestly it's no wonder there's no atmosphere at the games with stewards every 5-seconds telling you to sit down! With the best will in the world it does not add to the enjoyment of the evening!
Remember chaps and chapesses - we follow a football club - not a manager or a chairman!
Players - more inept performances like that and you will get the players on your backs - even more!
Mr Cortese diesn't like this JPT distraction and probably made it known NOT to progress last night was the order of the day.
Kiss promotion good bye if Lambo doesn't get interested and unless the tea play to Connolly's strengths we may as well not have him in the squad.
Never mind vnting anger at Cortese - resting key players for the league (bar Lambo who clearly isn't match fit) signalled to me forget the JPT!

Agreed, and I've just seen a comment from Official Saints on Twitter remonstrating with the fans for saying that they don't want Paul Hart. Well FFS, that's the result of being secretive, sacking a manager in the way that they did, rumours will fly around and WE remember Redknapp gate!!! that was totally 'unlikely' but it happened!

NC will sack anyone now who gets in his way, including the man running their Twitter account if he/she is not careful!. the Publicity machine that is the Saints Kremlin needs to do some rebuilding of player's and fan's confidenence. Last night demonstrated that the players are shell shocked, resting key players is useless without motivation.

No, we don't follow a manager but we're sick of this club being plagued with manager after manager change. Whatever you say about AP he inherited a 'mess', twice relegated, low morale, 10 point deduction, in administration.... that's all that was achieveable given the calibre and standing of us being in league three.

Yes people are being negative but you can't really blame them!!

As for standing in Northam, FFS that rule has been in for years now - get over it!

Disappointed in result, but it wasn't unexpected. This Saints team never seem to play consistently and certainly wouldn't with a stand-in manager. Dean Wilkins is in an unenviable position; he wasn't hired for this job. My fear is that we'll drop points under him, then drop more points when bedding in a new manager. We'll be adrift again. I'm sure we're good enough in this league to make up lost ground with the RIGHT manager. We need someone strong who gives simple clear instructions. He must read the game and be able to make changes early enough to get the right result. Simples. Over to you NC.

The new owners are not in this for glory, thay just want to milk the cashflow, and big spend is not part of the plan.

Wake up people our club is heading for the buffers once more. NC has turned it into the Kremlin, charging staff for car parking and even the disabled fans on match days(a disgrace). The sheer arrogance of non communication with us fans and ST holders is unacceptable. His knee jerk reaction to sacking AP resulted in that inept display last night. He risks alienating fanbase, the 5 year plan will take longer than 5 years and with his interference. He inherited a mess, sorted it and now seems hellbent on destroying it with poor old ML out of the picture he has lost all sense of reason.

That can’t afford to happen again this weekend. They say it takes one to find one, the majority are just normal decent supporters who have different views on what is right and wrong, nothing suspect about their personal proclivities.

A story if I may about Cortese and the new owners...
.
I took my Mum (a Swindon fan) for corporate hospitality as a treat last season to the game we lost 1 nil.
.
Corporate hospitality used to be a large buffet comfy chairs in a nice little room all at a just about affordable £50 each.
.
After the take over gone was the buffet - replaced by the choice of two poor dishes and, more frustratingly, gone were the chairs!
.
When I asked about the lack of seating a bar staff member told me it was the Chairman's order - 'No seats'
.
I ask you if he has that mentality to the basic provision of some seating while you eat a meal what is he doing to the first team?
.
...and even the £50 corporate has gone in favour of some £75 one finally pricing out those of us who like to take elderly relatives for a treat now and again...

4-0 away win.... then sack the best manager we've had since Strachan..... then lose 3-0 at home to an average side.
average? They were in the playoff final last season, I believe that is better then we fared. We struggled last season against them so don't come with your lame conclusions of what would have happened cause you dont know.

All these stories circulating about NC's despotic actions is very worrying. Only a manager desperate for work is likely to take a chance under those circumstances (e.g. Paul Hart) and a well respected manager give NC awide berth.

Pinch, punch everyone!!

Right, I am seriously beginning to wonder about the inteliigence of some of our fans. Yep, Pardew's sacking is a shock, yep last night was dire, yep the timing stinks but 48 hours ago all was rosy in the Saints garden. We still have the best squad by a mile in the division who, even at the end of last season, were way under acheiving. If NC brings in some joker with half as much experience as AP then I will jump on this anti band-wagon, but lets at least wait and see first! It's quite possible that even with AP in charge last night would have gone the same way - Swindon seem to be our new bogie team.

Patience people, at least until we see how this week plays out - I fear we are in danger of biting the hand which feeds us....

I asked about the possibility of having coffee stands back at the pitchside as the catering was a shambles & getting one during half time impossible!
Couple of days later a general email informs me of the latest catering development - a Carvery for £99 (plus vat) !!!!!

AP's sacking is just stupid. Pards was the best we were likely to get
Sorry, but I've had it with this lot. Asking for a season ticket refund.
Enjoy your carvery lads.

I suspect it is more to do with money than choice,Hart would be cheap 5.75 per hour or there about, with all these money generating schemes that NC has put in place car park charges, shirt change next year and corporate seat destroying,I have already lost my patience

Still support NC Enrico? Hmmm. Well I hope to make you think again. Read on:
.
1. Raising the prices of corporate hospitality pricing fans that like the odd treat out.
2. End of season ticket loans.
3. Booking charges/raised on the day ticket prices.
4. Spat with local press that is unnecessary.
5. Spat with national press that has turned us into a joke again.
6. Charging disabled fans for car parking.
7. Charging staff for car parking.
8. Charging me for parking when I've already paid £50 for corporate seats with the parking being in a quarry!
9. Upsetting club legends publicly.
10. Untimely quotes about performance last year.
.
I don't want to go on but there are 10 known issues for you. These are not speculation but fact!
.
Do any of you remember the emphasis Rupert put on youth and the academy a few years back? Remember how we all thought we should focus on getting players that could get us out of the then Championship rather than poor money and time at facilities for the future?
.
Starting to look a bit familiar isn't it!
.
I hold my hands up. I was loosing faith in AP. I never lost it totally though. I HAVE lost it with NC and I hope the Lehiberr family can see that the name of Southampton FC is being dragged through the mud again because of one man's actions - That is if they care and I pray that they do.

Good, I'm glad we are out of the joke cup. As to the chants, same no brains who chanted against the return of Hoddle all those years ago, look where that got us!!!

Onwards and upwards, get in a manager who can motivate the team to beat the likes of Plymouth and Orient. AP just couldn't hack it.

And how do you know he could not hack it? Where is your evidence? I just saw bad luck in those first few games. I saw worse from AP last season but that was OK because we were winning most games right? How do you know it wasn't his problems with NC that caused him some self belief? How do you know that because his Dad never said well done when he was a kid he does not have the mentality for the job?
.
Way too much speculation on here. Just look at facts and the facts are NC is slowly making it more and more difficult for a fan like me to raise my head and say all is now well at Southampton because I can't

These are fair points and I whole heartedly agree about us becoming a joke in the national press again - it's embarassing. But we have not tipped over the edge yet, and I am hoping against hope that NC will gather himself after this furore and move forward positively. After all, what's the alternative? Back to a club run by local cronies a la Leon Crouch - no thanks! I want a modern, progressive club where the likes of Crouch, Lowe, Illingsworth etc etc are kept well at arms length, so I shall reserve judgement for now.

Sorry mate, but I think I, like many Saints fans, have simply had enough.

Forget who he gets in, even if it is an incredible coup, which I doubt very much.

At some point you have to ask when the soul of your club is finally lost forever.

A few years back we were proud of being a family club and there were no signs that didn't work for us.

Since then there have been several times when I've been able to semi-defend some pretty ruthless behaviour by our club – Dave Jones, Luggy, the list is pretty long.

But this is worse than any of these.

It is sacking someone who has done a great job for us and has never done anything to deserve dismissal.

I honestly thought we'd have Pardew as manager, for better for worse, for the duration of Markus's five year plan, because continuity and building something new at Saints was so key to his vision.

Sadly, this is perhaps the lowest I've felt as a Saints fan.

Not because of who we might or might not get in, but because I cannot recognise the club I loved so much during the Dell days.

Since then it has been a gradual decay of all that proud club stood for and this is the latest and one of the grubbiest chapters.

Morning all. Been having a good look at this thread and it amazes me how things never change on these forums, except for the names involved. The sentiments expressed, the sometimes ferocious opinions, the passion of the genuine fans and the outright stupidity of the dubious ones. All exactly the same feelings and themes as when we went down and the RL crowd was in charge. I really recognise myself in the posters that get really wound up and angry at the goings-on at this beloved club. All we ask for ultimately is success, but in truth all we can do is hope. All the shouting, screaming and vitriol won't make the slightest difference to the eventual outcome. Perhaps it would be better to take a time out and just talk about the football. Radical idea I know, but that is really all it's about in the end.

Cool. If you totally forget the management/club background and look at the players we do indeed have a team capable of automatic promotion.

To achieve that though we desperately need more pace on the wings or up front.

That's our problem at home in my opinion – lots of possession and passing, but no pace to get behind the banks of four teams play against us at home.

Perhaps ridiculously comparing us to Arsenal, we tend to go through games at home passing it constantly without ever really threatening the goal or unsettling the defenders into making mistakes.

Raw, simple pace would transform that and turn 0-0 into 1 or 2-0. Antonio and Papa being the proof that players who aren't actually technically great can cause major problems at this level.

Equally, when defenders panic they tend to lose their heads and get pulled out of position, freeing up Ricky, Adam and the rest.

Pace, pace, pace.
