Lallana out for six weeks

Adam Lallana has been ruled out for the next six weeks, after undergoing an operation on his knee.

The midfielder struggled through pre-season with the injury, which flared up during last Saturday’s 4-0 win at Bristol Rovers.

The 22-year-old saw a surgeon yesterday and caretaker boss Dean Wilkins revealed he had gone under the knife.

Wilkins said: “Unfortunately Adam Lallana is now out for six weeks.

“That is a massive blow, because not only is he a fantastically talented individual that scored 20 goals for us last year, he’s a very good player and a very good lad around the place, so that’s a big loss.”

Saints being favourites to go up was always dependent on a variety of factors, icluding key players remaining uninjured and on form, let alone some managerial stability.
This does not mean I don't think they'll finish in the top six but it doesn't make things easier that's for sure.
Certainly it is now important the team begins to function properly and the 'big players' from last season start to do their stuff, beginning on Saturday.

What was looking to be a very positive start to the season has now turned into a sodding nightmare. I think our pre season status as league favourites has taken dent. Re-grouping, and a huge team effort now required, and of course no more injuries to the back bone of the squad. Lets just hope we get a manager worthy of this great club who shares our passion and deditcation.

Good job we consolidated our position as favourites by backing our manager in every way and got in an extra wide player or two before the transfre window slammed shut!!

Right, so so far this season our owner's died, our manager's been sacked and our best player (on form this season) has got injured.

Now is probably a good time to remember that you don't become a saint without facing adversity. But the good ship Southampton will sail on course and we'll get through all this. We just need to turn up and cheer.

Have supported Saints ever since they were in Div 3 South and read with interest these comments but at last cracked. Do not understand what is happening again surely the events of the last week have jeopordised all of Markus' dreams for the club after managing to put our beloved team on an even keel these events seem to be back to the old days. There was obviously a reason behind them but if it was genuine could someone please let us fans know.

It's not all doom and gloom. We've got the same squad with one injury. AP had to go by the sound of it as you don't just sack someone after a 4-0 win for no reason. We need someone in that will be able to break down teams that sit back and we need to become League 1's Chelsea, easily beating the weaker teams 6-0 which I have no doubt that we will do with 1/2 loan signings. NC will bring in the right man to take us up

You're right. I'm quite enjoying the excitement, actually. We'll soon be getting bored with winning 5-0 every week so let's just enjoy the drama while it's happening.

This is unbelievable! What can happen next? Lets stop all the excuses, let the players start playing like the professionals they are meant to be and get this season off the ground. We have a squad more than capable of going up but where is the motivation? Goodness knows what happened for Pardew to go in this manner but surely the Club could have been more forthcoming to keep the fans on board instead of allowing an anti NC backlash to follow. My message to the team is bring all the optimism back bigtime by turning in the performances you are capable of. Players should be paid for the way they perform everyone else is.

Lallana is a big loss we need to stay with the pack while we search for a new manager.

I would go for Hoddle if he his
an excellent manager with great tactics and with his own soccer academy he will be great for our youngsters and he can bring some of his youngsters here.

1) Pardew had to go as you wouldn't sack someone after a 4-0 win.
2) We still have the same team which should easily make the play-offs no matter who is in charge.
3) As you say he is only 1 player we have more than enough quality in the team to cover his absence
4) The new man will be just as good as Pardew and will be able to break down teams that just defend
5) From what i've heard the ref and lino were awful on Tuesday and the Pardew chants probably didn't help.
6) Those that say we will be relegated are probably skates
7) From here we go onwards and upwards starting Saturday

When it rains it pours!!! Adam Lallana is our best player, none of this Lambert stuff, yes Lambert scores tons of goals but that is what he is paid to do. Lallana does what he is paid to do and more. We are going to struggle even more now, no manager and star player injured. I think there is a rush to get a manager, got good managers wanting the job give it to one of them and lets move on allowing them to sign a couple of players on loan especially now we've lost Lallana for 6 weeks. Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd or Arsenal must have players that they would like out on loan.

Adam have a speedy and good recovery.

I remember going to WHL spurs v saints and screaming with rage and anger 'JUDAS !! JUDAS !!' i admit i hated him, but i'm big enough to forgive him. He showed saints you didn't have to have the best players to play great football... the only time I sang 'It's just like watchin Brazil!' was back then. I want to sing it again!!

If not Hoddle then it has to be someone with his sort of experience, tactics and strictness! Keegan maybe, Curbs maybe, Zola no, Brown rubbish win ratio but strict, Mowb plays good football, but i don't see why we don't just poach jose from Real??

Who are you calling a skate? Fish Face, on what I saw on tuesday Guly is s**t if they continue to play him then our left flank is exposed Ryan Dickson is ten times the player and good cover for lallana, I agree, the ref and his assistant shouldn't ref sunday league let alone league 1.
It will take time for the team to Gel again lambo must lose weight though he must have gained 10 pounds over the summer probably not his fault as he was injured during most of it.

What have they done with our club? The players need a good kick up the backside from a strong manager, who also knows the importance of getting good crosses in from the bye-line. (Look at the first Swindon goal).
Last roll of the dice, play Aaron (big lad) up front with Rickie! I know he's a defender, but he's young, he'll soon learn. We really need another big guy up front.

Just read Dean Wilkins statement on the O/S. Fine sentiments but if what he says is true why after the game at Bristol was the performance on Tuesday so pathetic. Why did Barnard not start the game? Why was Martin left out and Jahdi brought back? When is Ricky going to wake up and justify his place? Success is all about winning and only the players can sort this out. This continue reference to the fans support is all very well but they have been let down big time and its up to the players not the fans to put things right. Dean Hammond says on the O/S that all is well with the squad so lets see some action

joelster says...
6:32pm Thu 2 Sep 10

unfair.
I get what you are saying but you're both wrong.
For Wilkins and Hammond to say "no excuses we can get on with this one, its just about the players, we just need support" is utter rubbish.
It's the old business adage "there's an elephant in the room and no one is wanting to talk about it"

But

Equally rubbish is for us to suppose that players like Ricky and others can simply make this "business-like" response and get on with it and produce results.

Facts are- until you get a manager and the right manager - wilkins and the players will never produce the way they should.

I get all the "take your time" rhetoric... but poste-haste is needed right now to stabilize. WHY? Cause the goal is automatic promotion.

If that wasnt the goal then "take your time" cause big deal if you lose a few draw a few. But since it is the goal you have to move quickly. And that's where picking on results and reputation is the correct formula.

Pick on merely reputation and you get a personality and that will last a few games.
Pick on results only and maybe the fan wont take to him right away or the players wont respond- but get the balance right and you dont have to search all month you can simply say- "Him" and get it started.

Just my thoughts.

Agree with most of the above, lets be honest, if weve learnt something as saints fans, its we now know what we need to get out of this div, it wont be all luck, although that plays a massive part, but its the ability to change a game to suit what your up against, thats not something you learn, youve either got it, or you havent.
Hoddle had that in abundance, thats the sort of manager that will drag us out of this div. Eddie howe seems to have "the touch" but I reckon he would be out of his depth.
Its going to take a strong character to grab the dressing room, Phil brown has limitations, keegan would last 5 minutes, Its down to who cortese can work with. Then its up to mr cortese to take a step back and allow the man to take control of the first team .
Its the only way we could ever attract the likes of o,neill.
But someone who is unfamiliar with this level of football would be a mistake.
Alan pardew is gone, now part of saints history, and I trust mr cortese to give us the manager, who can acheive his dreams. Whoever it is, postman pat, noddy or one of the power rangers, I will back them ....100%, as I did with AP,its called "support".

I have to say the last few months have been very hard to take. The lack of signings, negative press total lack of information from the club....I think the supporters deserve to be treated better. This was ment to be the start of a new dawn at the club but it seems like we are being left in the dark,we do not expect the club to explain every single thing that goes on but just a little information would go along way to appeasing many & basically keeping us informed about our club. Its been very depressing over the last few months & the events of this week just beggers belief. The club at the moment is a laughing stock the ban on national newspapers is going to back fire big time......how long before the TV cameras will pull out leaving us with no media coverage whatsever.Mr Cortese i do not doubt your ability to run a successfull bank/buisness but this is a Football club & without the basics- Fans support & The press/media you will soon be alienated & loathed.I do think you believe you are doing this for the good of the club but.....Lighten up...we are ment to be a football family..but us fans feel like the black sheeps. Lets give the lads all the support this weekend & show them that what ever happens we will always be behind them. COYR.

Good post Row - NC may be a good banker but leaders communicate thier vision and keep staff stakeholders and customers informed. we are not paying two and six to watch on a terrace at the Dell anymore and a bit of consideration for the paying customer shelling out for season tickets and cup games on top would be appreciated.

My thoughts are simple....we are lucky to even be able to consider some of the names on the potentials list. They have all tasted success at the lower levels....and let's face facts...we are in a low league. Whoever gets the job...let's all get right behind him...grant him some time...and get on with what we should do best...support our Club and manager! COYR!!!

Hoddle won't be our next manager.
1) he's good friends with Lowe.
2) hasnt he stated b4 that he has some kind of football academy that he is more focused on?
3) been there, done that.
A name that hasn't been mentioned yet is Sean O'Driscoll.
Good man manager, good motivational skills, & very good at this level.

I must admit I felt more than a little upset when we lost 3-0 the other night against Swindon, especially after that great performance against Bristol where I felt euphoric. But on reflection its probably not a bad thing. If there's a time to screw up badly then let it be in the cup where there are no points at stake. I'm willing to predict we will win the next two games and be in the top six by mid Sept. This is a tough month for sure but at the end of it we could be top of the league. We are at a major stage in the resurrection of this club, but despite all the distraction, our lads must keep playing like they did at Bristol and if they do, I am convinced we will climb out of this.

Saints vs Rochdale.

Adam Lallana out for 6 weeks and Barnard misses 3 games for seeing Red - not the news that Saints Fans wanted to hear this week. Both bits of news have important implications for Saturday.

If we play tight at the back - Davis-Harding-Martin
-Fonte-Butterfield (Jaidi and Ryan Dickson on the bench) we give ourselves the best possible start.

Need to cut out the Poor Defending and Decision Making and work together as a Team.

Up front Lambert and Connolly

(A Challenge to David Connolly from all Saints Fans - score some goals while Barnard is not playing - you will never have a better opportunity !!)

My personal target is for Connolly to score on Saturday.

The midfield is the area that needs most looking at. No Adam Lallana -so
Gully-Hammond-Schnei
derlin-Puncheon

Lets look at that in detail:

Dean Hammond - fine.
Morgan Schneiderlin - ok (no messing about with deft touches near our penalty box - just clear the ball)
Jason Puncheon - variable ..can be good but still needs to work on hitting the target - the goal is big enough !

Finally Gully - he is the big worry. The crowd were absolutely right to ask to bring him on at Bristol Rovers to have a look at the new player and he played a few nice touches against Swindon. His big weakness is losing the ball - seen it at Rovers and he cost Saints the first goal vs Swindon.

Cannot afford any risks on Saturday - a tight game and Saints looking to keep a clean sheet and be more defensive.

Prediction: 0-0 Half Time
1-0 Full Time Saints Win

If Gully plays it can only be to see if he can unlock the Rochdale Defence - he did ok vs Swindon. If he can't improve his ball keeping and ball control skills - he should be substituted. In any event he should not play the full 90 minutes as he will fade during the game.

Gully is the risk to Saturday's success - to Adam Lallana from all Saints Fans - Get Well Soon !!

Interesting that Hammond said AP's sacking took the team by surprise, so much for a major team bust up. What's done is done. Remember that NC is trying to act in our best interests, so we must trust him to get us a decent new manager. Support him and Saints and let's hope we accrue enough points for when the new guy takes over.

Harding is a liability and only knows how to hoof the ball up the pitch aimlessly. Martin isn't experienced enough we need to play him when we are in a comfortable league position.

I'd play Mills left back and Dickson left mid. Their link up play would be much more effective due to their great crossing ability. Should be perfect service for you to meet your "personal" target of Connolly scoring...lol you joker! "personal target" haha what happens if Connolly does score? Who do you say well done to? :)

Guly needs time. Papa did great after a nervous start! Be patient.

Any of us who have played football will know that there was also one guy who got picked because his dad was mates with the manager but we are talking about professional football here. I'm willing to bet there are quite a few thousand people who would give their left arm to play for this club yet this disgrace is wearing the shirt because of who his dad is. Its a total scandal. Seen the Echo today - League One Preview and the Team Selection looks about right. Had a good laugh this morning at some of the comments.

My point is - Connolly can score goals - why is not scoring when he is playing ??

Dean Wilkins admits Saints have been dealt a massive bow this week after 40 goals were taken out of the team.

He must start looking at getting a Striker on loan, if not already. Saints need goals - should have another Striker on the books now. Don't believe Pardew got that right !

It's not rocket science - If anyone gets injured and not available Saints need goals to win matches - look at the Team and who can deliver now ?

That's why Adam and Rickie are the home favourites - they deliver goals and performances.

I still stand by my previous comments on BBC Football and also this site - that Connolly should have been offloaded at the end of last season and money should have been spent on a new Striker !

Look out for some low scoring games and that is why the Saints Team have got to work together to be more defensive as a Unit. If they leak goals in the next six weeks it will be an uphill battle to get back in the game.

Saints cannot afford to go chasing games and be behind - they will need to be defensively tight and score first. They need then to hold on to the lead without sitting back.

From all Saints fans - Good Luck on Saturday !!

agree with everything above apart form 5), I was there on Tuesday and to even start to blame the ref and lino is a joke.Swindon looked fitter and sharper on the ball, whoever comes in needs to sort this out.Even without Adam and Barney for the next few games we still have a squad that would be the envy of the rest of the division. They just need to get on with the job they are paid to do.

I have it on very, very, VERY good authority that AP was sacked for 'doing a John Terry' with one of his players wives. Player unknown at this point. This resulted in a training ground brawl with said player, more players came in to help him while the backroom staff stepped in to help AP. Massive fight, reason for it found out, AP sacked. Now we know.
