We can do much better now and need that stiker slot given to someone quality. All we need at the back is a young hard strong CB to play with fonte and thats all the defenive side sorted. Just attacking midfielder (centre & winger) needed with the striker mentioned above and we are all there. ITS ALL ABOUT QUALITY THIS SUMMER. last summer the money was spent on QUALITY defensive players (Dickson, Butterfield and Richardson) this summer it needs to be spent on offensive players. QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY. 1 CB 2 CM 3 Winger 4 Striker
love your "that striker slot" comment. You obviously have no concept of a squad-based sport. Connoly is a gift for a one year extension.... Most fans that know the game wanted that. They understand what you need from a squad of players. Saints are not deficient in ANY department to challenge for top 6 in the championship. BUT we need to strengthen the squad generally to have more quality cover when injuries and suspensions hit. Players do not get injured on purpose and david is easily good enough to score vital goals in a championship.
Dont wind me up mate. Trust me I been watching saints home and away for the last 17 years, I think I have an opinion which counts. Connelly, with his injury record and age isnt good enough now. The "striker slot" is a valid one, perhaps I need to explain. With Lambert, Barnard, Guly going nowhere, we only need one more first team striker. We are all hoping that we sign a QUALITY striker, Craig M Smith for example. If we keep connelly mate, we're not going to have 5 first team strikers on the books. 1 year, pay as you pay, whatever, we dont want or need him to progress. I dont think either him or gobern will sign the terms they are offering will be pants.

So thanks for the comment about not knowing what a squad based squad is all about. We need two first teams for each position, 22 first teams and the 3-6 youth team pushing them. U do your maths mate, how many strikers will that be? not 5..! 4 and ditch connelly.
if you think CM-S is "quality" for saints then you have not watched enough Posh games. he is a class act but is not going to be a "quality" addition to Saints unless you plan on letting Adam or Alex go !? and ignore how saints have scored the majority of their goals in the last 48 months. just because a guy hares around like a rabbit and scored goals for posh does not mean he can slot into every set-up. Love the comments on this thread generally, some posts show that football really is the "people's" game :0)"

Saints to keep first-team stars

Dan Harding's contract has been renewed Dan Harding's contract has been renewed

SAINTS have announced their retained and released list, with the club intending to keep all their out-of-contract first-team players.

Defenders Dan Harding, Danny Butterfield and Aaron Martin have all had their deals automatically renewed for another year.

Striker David Connolly and midfielder Oscar Gobern also look set to remain, with the club revealing they are set to start discussions over new contracts.

That follows on from the news earlier this week that centre-half Radhi Jaidi has signed a one-year extension to his St Mary's stay.

Harding, Butterfield and Martin all earned another year after clauses in their contracts were automatically triggered.

Assuming all six players do remain at the club, it gives Saints a healthy-sized squad going into the summer, ahead of their return to the Championship.

And it is also perhaps an early indication that manager Nigel Adkins doesn't plan to be too active in the transfer market over the coming months.

Saints have released five players, but none of those have seen any first-team action this season.

Unsurprisingly, midfielder Anthony Pulis' unsuccessful stay at the club has finally come to an end.

The 26-year-old joined Saints in August 2008, but never played a minute of first-team football for them.

Pulis heads for the exit door along with youngsters Sam Argent, Tony Garrod, Callum McNish and Ryan Tafazolli.

All those players will officially depart the club at the end of June, when their contracts expire.

In a statement on the club's official website, Saints thanked the departing players for their efforts and wished them well in the future.
