Saints complete Sharp deal

Billy Sharp Billy Sharp

SAINTS have tonight completed the signing of Doncaster striker Billy Sharp.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at St Mary's.

Sharp agreed personal terms today and underwent a medical after Saints met the £1.8m release clause in his Rovers contract.

Good news all day then!
Really can make an impact at this level - him and Lambert hopefully will work together and score plenty.
Sharp will make the difference in the conversion stakes. I'm sure his assists will be something - do we go 3 up front with Guly?

Great news - the shot in the arm we needed as it seems Lee and Falgue will need more time to adjust then we have available. Puncheon back on board as well and suddenly feel a bit more confident the wheels may now be back on the bus.

Only thing why so last minute for Sharp? What a shame it couldn't have been done earlier in the month so he could have played against Leicester?

Great news just seen Saints Web site we have the Sharp shooter . Now we need a left side centre back so Fox can move to left back tomorrow night. I have a feeling that Fonte will be back tomorrow night.
What a day for the South Coast clubs we get Sharp for a bargain 1.8 million, Bournemouth smash their transfer record by buy Tubbs, and Pompy can only afford a one way ticket to the high court to be wound up.

But how is he "one of the leagues hottest strikers "
He has scored 10 league goals this season. The same as Guly who has played a lot of his games in midfield.

What a few on here seem to have forgotten is tha Guly is a midfielder.....so this signing along with Lee , who will need to settle , means we have options upfront and a goal theat/playmaker in midfield. 10 goals out of a total 25 in a poor team is a great return. No...because they are wums. They'll just be thinking up another agenda. Meanwhile, us fans can get on with enjoying the limelight of a promotion battle. Poopey getting their just desserts could be the cherry on top. Any odds on us putting them down in April yet?

Tough February ahead, but after that the run in looks a lot easier. And hopefully, with Jose, Adam, Chappers and Hooi back, plus the new boys settled in (plus any other rabbit Nicola pulls out of the hat tomorrow?) we have a great chance.

Must stay vocal and solid behind the team - RedArmy1 style - through this tough patch.

By the way RedArmy, heard on the radio that it was 100 years ago today that "It's a long way to Tipperary" was written. Helped us through two World Wars that one. We got anything appropriate with a marching beat?

Glad you're happy, hope you keep your season ticket. I'm sure NC will accept an apology (after all, if JP can do it so can you).

No one's worried about spending money, we just trust that the right amount will be spent wisely, (as appears to be the case).

Disappointed Danny Collins couldn't be accommadated with personal terms. How much would he have been asking for above what we are already paying, and comparing it to Ipswich?
Not desparate for a centre back, but would have been good to have him on board.
I am reasonably happy with the squad we have now, but when we get promoted we are going to need an overhaul.
Mainly because we have got promoted at least one year early !
Norwich did bring in one or two and we will need to use their template.
Can we have Drew back ?

ooops!!! maybe i got that wrong.....this was just posted on Saintsweb and seems to have a bit more substance than my explanation...40.2 Subject to Regulations 40.4 and 40.5, a Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if the appropriate forms for his registration or the transfer of his registration (other than those referred to in Regulation 40.3) are received (including by facsimile) and found to be in order by the Executive by 12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match.

Have to admit I didn't see that coming lol. Does make me wonder if the board read these boards. Pompey must be looking at selling some players they need money that's for sure. Tbh I hope they sort themselves out. Did hear something about Danny Collins.
Don't flatter yourself, just trust in NC & NA - they've been after Sharp for months & didn't need to spend 10 million on Lee & Sharp, just 1.8! Great business!
No I think it was when I said I wouldn't renew my season ticket that done it lol. Great signing. Should have bought him in the summer though.
Love the humour!

Fancy meeting for a pre-match beer when I'm back in the country - I can continue to convert you to the NC & NA bandwagon!!
I may take alot of converting might be a few beers lol. I'd be up for that though.

What a result. Lambert and Sharp ,that will scare most defences. With puncheon,Lee,Chaplow
,De prado and Lallanna behind them.Onwards and upwards for the mighty red and whites.
Does anyone know if he has signed in time to play tomorrow night.
Lee and Sharp for the home debuts, tomorrow will be even better.

I have been watching the Saints Player vids, showing the training sessions, Jose, Chappers and Adam are all involved not just spectating, now we have too many good players chomping at the bit, competitions is good but how are we going to keep them all sweet? The 5 sub rule is very restrictive and ought to be changed.

You have to be cruel to be kind, only the fittest survive. We can't carry players and to be fair they wouldn't want to be carried. I think he'll have to use tad Lee as a sub for a bit giving him 20-30 mins. Kelv, fox, frazer, jos, fonte, allana, cork, hmmond or spider, puncheon or guly, lambert, sharp

Well this window has seen Saints get three excellent signings.

Who said NC was a tight wad, nasty abrasive man.... I seem to remember him going along the queue of fans getting their tickets for the match and he handed out cups of tea!! he has now got the signings that will definitely strengthen the squad.

Who said NA could not attract good players, well that has been disproven.

I also remember when Rupert Lowe was supposed to be in charge fighting for his position, it was well known that his PR team and the Echo was posting on here pretending to be fans, who knows who these posters, who have tried to knock the management team really are, but they certainly appear to have an agenda, the only problem I have is that their grammer and spelling is much too good to be Echo reporters or are they?

I notice the Echo have done a relatively short article here, is this the best they could have written? How about mentioning his previous successes at clubs and previous goal-scoring records, all it takes is a quick look on Wikipedia and they've had all day to prepare for this!

Why didn't Lowe keep the bit of land where the burger bar is and Crouch the pavement in front of the store? How long must we wait until St Marys is dilapidated? Transfer day deadline is a wash out too, done all of our business beforehand whilst they get to have an auction! Bloody short Ities.

In the away match against a weakened Cardiff Saints were pretty but not good. In the end they were done due to schoolboy goalkeeping by Davies.

Cardiff will again play on the break which bascially means Miller looking to dive at every opportunity. Simples tonight - need to keeping feeding Lambert with good crosses and they will fall.

And don't forget 'Arry should have kept the shop (and takings for his dog's food?).
Boring when a club is well run, is it not ;-)

Cardiff will only reinforce what i have been saying for months with an (away win) that saints are just an average side and their chances of promotion are not too good now. Too many poised ready to take your place and consequently your premiership dreams will sadly disappear for another season. If the game is on tonight then i pity you saint's fans going to the game and sitting in -5c or 6c conditions surrounded by rows of empty seats and watching your team get stuffed. Mate, get on your Skate site to discuss how quickly your club is going to disappear from sight. And not before time, the cheating crims. Glad you are sweating it up in the Third World, where you belong, a crappy little island in the middle of nowhere!! Enjoy,my fishy friend.

The whole Club is a Credit to being the TOP SIDE IN THE SOUTH.

Same with the Supporters and the Immense Away Squad ...

Fans have got it just right and become SMART ... a step change from the previous decades ....

however ... that did not stop the Police just pulling Saints Fans from the Terraces at Plymouth last Season ..

Also at Reading Away at the Train Station - there was an overbearing presence which was over the Top .. IMO

WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON
THE PRIDE OF THE SOUTH ........

pity us watching a team going 4 promotion and able 2 sign quality players in a quality ground as against watching a team who can't pay there players???!! Muppet! Oh and talking of bad weather warnings have been issued 4 Portsmouth area of -20 and floods due 2 30000 saints fans pi55ing themselves with laughter whilst 15000 skate fans cry into their mums laps!!!
Empty seats ok so we will have some but what you need to remember that our ground holds over 32000 fans unlike that shed you call a ground so even when our ground looks like it is a bit empty that would still fill your hole of a stdium with 5000 people stood outside unable to get in. So when was the last home game you sold out except for against us or West Ham????? yeah thought so as I can remember you not selling out when you were in the Prem so I wouldnt shout to loud. Do the maths if you can count. Jelousy is a horrible thing 137 mill, 1 FA cup and your club almost out of business hope it was worth it. The mess your club is in if I was you I would crawl back into your hole and button it. Being a Saints Fan is so great right now welcome Billy cant wait to see you pull on the RED and White shirt. Fratton Park is number 1 sh1thole in the Championship .. and the sooner they get points deducted and play in League One .... the better ..

I’ve got a shed (I’ve got a shed)
That’s bigger than this! (that’s bigger than this)
I’ve got a shed that’s bigger than this
It’s got a door an a window

Red army ... Red army ..

Another timeless chant ...

When I was just, a little boy
My father bought me, a brand new toy
A pompey fan, on a string
He told me to kick it’s f****** head in
f****** head in…f****** head in…he told me to kick it’s f****** head in.

When the blue few come to St Mary's they must be given their 3,000 allocation only and SAINTS Supporters in the NORTHAM must not be allocated other places to accommodate them ...

They are the minority - WE HAVE NORTHAM - KINGSLAND NORTH AND ITCHEN NORTH...and we have them surrounded ... outnumbered and outgunned.

Looking back to the last FA CUP Meeting blue scum must not be allowed to dominate.

Wish we could have got him before he scored against us in December. Look how pleased the gaffer looks in the official photo, I've never seen him so happy.

He's definitely a wilful player, just remember his great goal against 'boro just days after his baby son Louie passed away.

Great to have him on board the aero-bus-boat-train. COYR!

So you got your second choice, not a bad player. Hoops was NEVER gonna sign for a jumped up wee provincial club like you. Despite your dilutions of grandeur. Cortese played you all like a fiddle. Celtic flicked you off like the irritating fly you are.

Skatesonice, if you loved your club, rather than spending your dole on a trip to Cebu, you'd stick it in the PFC kitty for a raining day, such as ..... errrrrrrrr ..... today!

Billy Sharp: 233 games, 110 goals
(for Scunthorpe, 82 games, 53 goals)

Gary Hooper: 253 games, 110 goals
(for Scunthorpe, 80 games, 43 goals)

Do the maths. Would you pay anywhere between £5m and £35m for Hooper or between £1.8 and £5m for Sharp?

Looks like Hooper was just Nigel Adkins's stalking horse all along, mate.

Still, enjoy your trip to Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday; I bet you can't wait.

Ach I The Noo - Over the moon paying 1.8 Mil for Sharp - Never believed we would get Hooper and would not want him for 5Mil as he is not worth that. I am quite happy being a smaller fish in the hugely competitive and enjoyable English leagues were any club can give the other one hell of a game and yes we have dreams of making it back to the prem but that is aspirations rather than dilusions.
Any club can look big and make europe every year in a 2 club league - Enjoy your boring matches out side of playing Rangers in your dull awful league.

To be fair Red they would struggle in the first division as they would have to play EVERY week and they would not cope, plus as has been said before it is a wum as the term is Och not ach unless he missed an "e" off the end.
