Lambert revved up for Cardiff test

Rickie Lambert Rickie Lambert

RICKIE Lambert is hoping Saints strike a major blow in the Championship promotion race when they host Cardiff tonight.

The showdown at St Mary’s arguably represents the biggest game of the entire season so far for Nigel Adkins’ men.

Saints are holding onto second position in the table, but will drop out of the top two for the first time this term with a defeat.

However, they could also enhance their Premier League credentials with a victory against the third-placed Bluebirds, who trail them by just a single point in the standings.

Tonight’s match kicks off a potentially defining run of fixtures for Saints, with visits to red-hot Birmingham and leaders West Ham to come in the next two weeks.

Lambert, the Championship’s top scorer, knows a good spell would put Saints in a fantastic position to secure automatic promotion.

And he is confident that, with an increasingly healthy squad, they can put together an invaluable winning run.

“Everyone’s coming back now at the same time, which is a big massive boost to everyone,” said Lambert, who himself made a goalscoring return from a three-game ban in Saturday’s FA Cup draw at Millwall.

“Obviously, we’re not looking at any other game apart from Cardiff, but we do know there’s big games coming up. So hopefully we can start on Tuesday with a win against Cardiff.”

Lets hope the pub side doesn't turn up tonight, I feel that the team owe the supporters a performance and will produce the goods!

Ricky is now back and on the goal trail with one at Millwall, its a shame that Billy can't play but you can't have it all. We need Chappers back pronto to liven midfield up and shake a few feathers, this is an area that needs some bite. Perhaps he will be on the bench, also I hope AL is back in the team.

We could have done with an addition at CB, just how long does a toe injury need to heal? Our defence needs to be up for it tonight as Cardiff are no mugs, which is why they are breathing down our necks! We do need the 3 points tonight, its a must. If we do slip up tonight it won't be the end of the road, but we will make it very difficult for ourselves.

Anyway, lets make it a fantastic atmosphere tonight and forget about the Leicester game and move on! This is now the run in and our best players are coming back to fitness at the right time, the other thing to remember is that it is unlikely that those around us will win all of their games. Only we can lose this opportunity and I don't think we will. COYR's! FOP!

Good point by Chipster ...

Saints need all their BIG GUNS ready for tonight's game ...

We have a good honest culture from the Manager and Players - but even so we can always improve what we do ..

IMO - It is a luxury to have a bedding in period for new signings ... there should no cotton wool treatment for sick-notes ...

Rickie and Billy - BRING IT ON !!!

Why wait for Birmingham ??

Come on - let's all up our game and the tempo and give the fans the goals and plenty to shout about ..

He can't play because we didn't sign him before midday yesterday, which is the deadline.

We'll have to wait & then unleash him at Birmingham on Saturday!
