10:30am Friday 3rd February 2012 in Saints News
By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter
SEAN O’Driscoll has hailed Saints’ new signing Billy Sharp as “priceless” and the “most indispensable striker” he has ever managed.
The 25-year-old is set to make his debut for Nigel Adkins’ side in tomorrow’s visit to promotion rivals Birmingham, having signed from Doncaster in a £1.8m deal earlier this week.
O’Driscoll, who brought Sharp to the Keepmoat Stadium, is confident the player can help Saints reach the Premier League.
“Billy has been probably the most indispensable striker I have ever worked with,” said O’Driscoll. “Billy’s a goalscorer and ultimately those are priceless.
“Saints are a good fit, and it is a club that has massive potential to consolidate itself back in the Premier Division.”

Good luck Billy, but this will be a tough match and I have written to Nigel to say that in these critical times we need more lateral thinking and innovation in both our tactics and team selection for away matches.
Two suggestions are:
Tactics - play a 1-10 'Fortress' formation. All ten players outfield players form a closed 'huddle' around the ball - each within striking distance of it, yet shielding it, thus keeping within the rules. The Fortress then slowly moves upfield and into the opposition goal.
Selection - the 'Jumbly Factor'. Bring in Dave, the 29 stone bloke who was featured in ITV's 'Britain's fattest Man' documentary. The programme showed how the jab on his stomach could envelop an entire football. Thus Kelvin gives the ball to Dave, who envelops it in his giant fat fold and then walks into the opposition goal, lifts his jab up and the ball dops in.
I see no rules broken here - though no doubt the purist pundits will gripe at half time on TV, especially about Dave.
Nigel is unlikely to acknowledge my assistance in all of this, but I care not - results are what matters.

TBH I'd happily settle for a draw on Saturday.
Brum are unbeaten at home and have only conceded 6 goals there, so will be a very difficult place to go and get a win.
Will Chaplow be back? NA was asked, in his latest interview, about Chappers' and Jos' fitness, and although happy to confirm Jos would not be ready for Saturday, NA never said a word about Chaplow.
I'm hoping that means he is under consideration.

Moving on with our attempts to help the skates in their hour of need why not have a sponsored "kick a skate day"?
A number of skates desperate to save their club could come to SMS and for a fiver you can kick them. Better known skates would of course be a tenner. And our overseas contingent needn't miss out on the charity event either, they can pay their money online and nominate one of us to do the kicking on their behalf. If they've had their own bad experiences they may for example nominate RedArmy1 or J7 to put the shoe in for them. If they just want a bit of fun, nothing too permanent, maybe Confucious or Osprey could administer the booting?

I'd sooner play them on a good surface, where the result will come down to football and not someone slipping on his backside on a rock hard pitch, gifting a goal or 2. They do not make the rules and are only doing their jobs! Although some may do it differently than others. Although some fans behave very differntly towards the Stewards than others.
In my experience if you are rude or aggressive to others you will not always get the best response! Some of the responses to Stewards asking fans to sit down in the Northam Home is appalling and it is not surprising when they get short change back.
The club are applying the rules of the FA and sometimes it appears that they are doing too much considering the Stewards in the Away section never seem to even try and do anything!!
But surely it should not always be a case of shooting the messanger!

All participants must scrub up and wear protective clothing before taking part.
As for the other game, 'p!ss on a skate', apparently the bilharzia worm, which lives on river and sea beds, can climb up urine. So that would just be too risky.

I would assume that this concern means that St Andrews does not have under soil heating? Having just looked at the forecast for Birmingham (-3C tonight, briefly rising to +1C Saturday, dropping back to 0C in time for the kick off, with heavy snow due during the match), I would suggest this game will be postponed, unless Sky convinces the ref to let it go ahead. I'd sooner play them on a good surface, where the result will come down to football and not someone slipping on his backside on a rock hard pitch, gifting a goal or 2. Unless we are the team receiving the gifts!!!!!!!

As for kick a skate, I think that is a terrible idea. Infection is rife.
