Clough hoping for a St Mary's result

Nigel Clough Nigel Clough

DERBY boss Nigel Clough insists his stuttering Rams side have a “glimmer” of hope at St Mary’s today.

County are winless in their last four Championship games and are up against a Saints team that boast the best home record in the division.

Yet Clough believes the result is not a foregone conclusion.

The Rams manager points to recent away wins from Bristol City and Leicester at St Mary’s, as well as Millwall’s FA Cup success there this month, as reason for hope.

“They got off to such a fantastic start that it’s allowed them to have a couple of off games,” said Clough.

“They’ve lost their incredible unbeaten home run as well in that time.

“That wasn’t going to keep going on and on and on.

“So that gives us a little bit of a glimmer as well, that other teams have been there recently and won.”

While Saints’ home form has undoubtedly dipped in the last two months, they are also coming off the back of an impressive 2-0 win over Burnley at St Mary’s last weekend.

a good 3-1 today is what the fans expect against a poor Derby side, normally they are much stronger, just goes to show how bum clenching these next few weeks are going to be . Reading have come from no where but are well amongst it. We have the strongest team in the division with the exception maybe of the 'ammers. Comon saints time to give everyone a reality check, good win today to scare away the scavangers, lets pull away and let the rest fight for the scraps.
We are top of the league (hopefully) by 4.45pm

Morning Seed
I had a few beers with Slugger and Bill last Saturday.
We didn't have a clue who was who until I started talking to a bloke who'd come over from Norway and asked if he was one of the Foreign Legion of Saints fans that frequent this site.
Slugger and Bill were listening and then we couldn't believe we were all together.
The mad thing is we went to Reading away and Slugger was with a mate of mine and didn't mention the echo site all day.
Small world or what?
Are you in corporate today or slumming it with us common folk?
The Woolston Connection will be having a few jars in Shamrock Quay and then onto the Banana Wharf in Ocean Village before and after the game .
2-0 Saints, 2-0 Barnsley, 1-1 Nott'm F v Cov

Happy with that but need the two point cushion, as they will have two games in hand but agree that Blackpool will hold them or hopefully put a couple past them and win.

Any win would do, but we are overdue a really big win. Let's have fun out there. Know we only go top because WHU are not playing, but psychologically would be great...show the others we are still the main contenders for automatic promotion.

Reality check, I also know that we should get a result today, but this is the Saints we are talking about, how often do they do what you expect them to do? There are so many variables, the major difference today is the weather forecast, if they are correct we are in for a miserable afternoon, just hope the Saints performance doesn't match it. If the Officials are fair, if NA has his tactics right, if we get the bounce of the ball, if all of the team turn up and play, if Derby don't have an inspired game, if the crowd keep onside, it should be a piece of cake, IF! COYR's.

This is the Battle of the Nigels. The English name Nigel comes from Normandy, originally Old Norse Njall and Gaelic Niall meaning 'champion' 'cloud' or 'passionate'. So we should be in for a cloudy afternoon, with plenty of passion, and Saints ending up top of the Championship. ONWARDS and UPWARDS. IN NIGEL WE TRUST!

Quality. In corporate as usual but doing some pubs as well, will try and get there. Being picked up at 11 for a nice fresh early start!

Saints win and Pompey going down with no money in the bank..... It's all good.

I feel a big win coming on today!!! I hope Billy Boy finds his scoring touch ( if selected). IMO the jury is still out on Mr Sharp. I spoke to my mate who is a Sheff Utd fan, and said that when they signed him he couldn't hit a barn door. He seemed to suffer from Bigger club syndrome! Let's hope that's not the case with us. I think a couple of goals will settle his nerves? My disappointment on wakin up this morning was that the skates didn't get deducted 20 points!!! I think back to the days of Luton, Bmth!!!

I feel sorry for Nigel Clough, he'll forever be in his father's shadow as we'll all know he'll never win back to back European Cups.
