Adkins delighted by quality of Saints' finishing
7:30pm Saturday 18th February 2012 in Saints News
Nigel Adkins congratulates Tadanari Lee
NIGEL Adkins hailed his ruthless Saints side after they thumped Derby 4-0 to move back to the top of the table.
Jos Hooiveld got the ball rolling at St Mary’s with an early goal, before second-half strikes from Aaron Martin, Adam Lallana and Tadanari Lee completed the rout.
Adkins was thrilled with the quality of the performance, as well as the finishing.
“It was a good 4-0 victory and some good goals,” said the Saints boss. “The supporters got behind the players, everyone’s together as one.
“I think we’ve demonstrated we can score goals again today, resilient defensively. Derby had a little spell just before half-time and just after half-time, we weathered that okay, and we’ve scored some exceptionally good goals.
“Adam Lallana’s from open play, he’s broke the play up in our defensive third and we’ve had an interchange of passes and what a fantastic goal that was.
“Then you talk about Tadanari Lee’s goal – what a strike that was.”

After two coffees I needed a pee and at 3-0 up I thought I might as well pop down to the loo. Then tinkling away I heard a huge cheer and raced back.... just in time to see Tadanari celebrating in the corner. "Was it a good goal?" I asked. "Brilliant" came the reply. "B@gger!"
Jeez - a great goal, Tadanari's very first for Saints and I missed it.

Very good football played today and i thought spiderman was M.O T M. Not usally on his side but today he and Chappers, Cork, adam, kelvin, foxy fonse, hoover, dan,Billy,RICKIE, Chung and Martin were outstanding.Another performance like that next week and another three points. No matter where someone comes from you can still be just as big a fan as someone who does watch every game and when you do get to see them you sing twice as loud. Also, with your narrow-minded view we'll have just 15,000 fans allowed, those season ticket holders, and we'll not be trying to expand the Saints brand abroad, such as Japan. This would lower our income greatly, reducing the amount of money available to spend on players. Didn't you want us to spend £20million this window?! I'm sure you also mentioned Lee wasn't a good enough signing as he was on a free, but all I've heard is good things about him, saying he gets stuck in and actually runs at goal with the ball. However, I congratulate you on being positive about Saints and hope that it continues.

Funny too that away from this forum most fans have similar views to me?
We'll meet up sooner rather than later, have know interest in the others they have shown their true colours on more than 1 occasion. Enjoy the rest off your week end it's much better when we win, I'm off to count sheep;)
You've shown yours again with your abuse of other fans.
Give it a rest, you're boring, divisive & unable to hear anyone's opinion that doesn't agree with yours.
In NA & NC I trust - told you it would all come good again without spending 20 million quid or more.
Oh yee of little faith!

The promotion push is well on track and other results continue to assist us.
Will Brum consider the FA cup replay an attraction or distraction?
Will Big Sam chew through his tongue as Blackpool get at them?
Will Pompey be docked any more points before the end of season?
What goes around comes around, I wish them all that they wished us

But don't have a pop at others who do go to games and get frustrated. Adult and 2 kids is £49 add on hot dogs coke and beer and you'll be lucky to get change from £100 on a saints day out. I have spent over 40 years following this Football team and during that time I have spent literally thousands doing so.
I take up to three sometimes four of my lads with me, this season with promotion looming I am making the most of it because if we reach the promised land it will cost an absolute Mint to carry on doing it.
SFC has become a huge part of their lives and I am grateful for its existence.
The Forum is a great place for viewing debate and opinion, yesterday i was critical of things at the game, things come into your head like, what if we started the game with the players that finished it, would it be 8 and not 4 ?, some guys on here are slaughtered for saying things that do not conform and it is a shame.
Please, lets keep it real so everyone here and fans abroad can see, debate and give opinion without all the Crap.

Even Adkins is coming out with "The future's bright - it's red & white" at the end of his interview.
Not the best coverage - but scoring from corners, and the two from open play showed we are not a one man team.
Need some luck on Tuesday night - best result for us? I think a draw personally - but others will want WHU to win to put a bigger gap between us and the pack.
Not sure about next week at Watford - could be a tough game, but Palace made them look ordinary!
Leeds the week after will be a test as Warnock will have done his bit to get them up for a play-off push. Not paying £36 when I can watch it on TV.

But I should point out Rod Liddle wrote a piece about Saints 18 months ago which said we were a provincial club not a big club and we didn't deserve to be back in the Prem.
The top division didn't need clubs like Saints and it was for big clubs only and not for clubs who had supporters with ideas above their station. (Or words to that effect.)
I thought fack him. It will be interesting to see what he writes if some of the Big Prem clubs are exposed by HMRC as using overseas benefit trusts to pay their foreign players and so avoid paying tax in GB, a la Glasgow Rangers.

Does anyone out there know if any of the Saints team/bench has ever pulled on the jersey and played in goal, we reckon that NA is taking a huge gamble and his luck is bound to run out soon.....thoughts anyone?

Hey Dan, Frazer is out due to injury, which makes it an even bigger gamble, One of my brothers jokingly suggested that as NA is on the team sheet as manager he could go in goal, that could be true if he was player/manager but I would bet a dollar the FL would find an excuse to dock us points for a non licenced player

Well written and worth a read. It can be found on page six of the sports section under the heading: 'Portsmouth pay price for absurd delusions of grandeur.'Agree with you completely. (Or words to that effect.) I thought fack him. It will be interesting to see what he writes if some of the Big Prem clubs are exposed by HMRC as using overseas benefit trusts to pay their foreign players and so avoid paying tax in GB, a la Glasgow Rangers.

Not naming a 'keeper on the bench is a gamble at home, but way too risky for away games when KD is likely to be far busier and risks injury or a straight red. Can we assume NA therefore has little faith in Bart? (I don't)

I do trust Nigel in his selection as the outfield gk candidate would have been checked out and had a crash course from the gk coach.
I did notice on bbc that Gus has been touted as possible replacement for Harry at Spurs if Harry gets England. Gus said he leap at the chance... yep and do a back flip, scratch his armpits and beat his chest.. lol
What a treat to see corners turned in and to see action in the box. I'd still like the ball to go wide a bit and score of crosses.. just a couple of times a game would be good.. mix it up a bit.

After a pound coin was seen being thrown onto the pitch at Fratton Park last week...Police are said to be still investigating whether it was a missile or a takeover bid.
meanwhile the administrator has enlisted local enthusiasts with metal detectors to sweep the pitch for more coins in mud... every bit helps he says.
There was a rumour that there were some coins left on the right wing in front of the Fratton end after Danny Wallace visited in 1984! Sorry we have no bananas!
