Boss lauds Lallana as the "best in the league"

Adam Lallana (seated) celebrates after netting against Derby
SAINTS manager Nigel Adkins has hailed Adam Lallana as the best player in the Championship.
The St Mary’s boss made the declaration in the aftermath of his side’s 4-0 demolition of Derby, in which Lallana starred.
The left-sided midfielder was at his magical best against the Rams, dazzling the visitors throughout with his wizardry.
Of his many sparkling moments, none was better than his sublime side-footed volley for Saints’ third goal.
“It was an outstanding goal from Adam Lallana,” said Adkins. “One word sums him up – class.
“For me he is the best player in the league. He is top drawer.”

People will talk about the games in hand position. I don't give a monkeys about that. Look at the big picture.
Looking back over the last few
seasons shows that the top two teams usually get in excess of 81 points. So 83pts would certainly see us as a premiership team next season (and 81 pts probably will) . That's another 24 points from 14 games. Looking at the fixture list that is certainly achievable and if we win at home and draw away that would do it with matches to spare.
Over confident?? Not really, just looking at the probabilities and the spread of fixtures. It's there for us to take and I still believe we wil do it with three matches to spare.
We now have two away matches. We should get at least two points from them. That might not seem quite so upbeat, but it would keep us on track for 83 points. Anything more would be great and would put more and more pressure on those behind us.
I'm absolutely certain this is how Adkins looks at the position.
Look at the finish line, not the people running behind you !!!

I'm glad that AL is getting kudos; he is a star. But are so many other players -- and to score 4 without Ricky and Billy on the score sheet shows what a great TEAm we have.
Remember NA its a TEAM game, and dont go telling Arsene & the Premier league boys how good Adam is.. they will try to steal him.

Odd really, because of course ambiguity is the delicious essence of life itself - we just don't know what's going to happen next. And since fear and love are the things we're programmed to feel most - there's plenty of both going around for us Saints worshippers.
It seems for years now every season we're either getting relegated, nearly relegated, promoted or nearly promoted. No mid table doldrums for us. Just when we thought things couldn't get worse, they did. And just when we thought things couldn't get better, they have.
On top of that we go from being broke and badly run under the most loathed management we've ever had to being financially secure and well run by the most respected management we've ever had - including the arrival and sad departure of much-loved Markus within just a year or so.
Of course it's all wonderfully exciting -but it was so nice too to be off the roller coaster for while on Saturday and in cruise mode.
But a word of thanks for someone very important who's been with us through all of this; someone who could have left us at the worst of times and could not have been blamed for doing so - and someone who's been pivotal in helping us reach these, the best of times.

Silly idea, I know, but if we do go on to clinch the title, I would love the chance to vote for 'The Squad'. It's a cop out, I know, but why not just this once? It would send out a message along the 'all for one and one for all' lines.

He is highly regarded in Japan, and had the chance to come to Europe, having been courted from Italy and Spain top flight teams, but chose Saints.
Also, the economy in Japan is far from what it was, and also the fervour for it's players overseas is much less than it was in the days of Inamoto, due much to both the lack of success of Japanese players overseas(with a few notable exceptions such as Nakata and Nakamura) and also with the access to Premier League etc matches now, it's become more 'regular' for the fans there.
Also, there hasn't so far appeared to be any major marketing push etc in Japan that I've been able to pick up on, although inevitably we will do, rightfully so, once he's settled-a good way to expand our brand, and gain a wider audience/customer base to help us build on the good work we've already done.
I think he'll turn out to be a fine signing, and however well he plays, he will certainly work his arse off till the end, as is very typical of Japanese players.

Reading all about Lee this morning, the papers are raving about him and how he has an army of fans in Asia, i must admit he looks a useful player, however, i do sometime wonder if this signing is partially motivated by the vast amount of sales of shirts he can bring in in Asia. I remember Arsenal buying Innamoto for £3M but he was worth £100M to Arsenal. Does anyone know enough about Lee to know if he has similar amounts of revenue pull, as that would significantly improve the bank balance.
Chun (or Chung? or Lee? .....) was bought because, as a player, the outlay justified the potential long-term investment. A lesson certain other clubs could learn from.

I'll probably get canned for this, but I still don't think Lallana is at the top of his game. He sometimes overplays the simpler stuff and he doesn't get as many goals as someone of his talent should be getting. I definitely don't doubt his ability though and wouldn't be surprised if he kicked on to become one of the best players in the EPL. I just hope it's with us and his loyalty matches his talent.

There are all sorts of stories about him. One is that when he came for a medical, the doctor's diagnosis was that he was in fact dead. It was rumoured to be said by a backroom bloke that someone unknown at the club, for reasons untold, had "done him in." Anyhow, it was all hush-hush and no body has ever been found.
A more likely scenario is the rumour that during his medical he suddenly grew fearful of his mortality and 'got religion' and ran off to live as a hermit in a kit basket in a never used cupboard at St Marys. If they turn up in the morning and find biscuit crumbs or a pork chop bone on the kitchen floor, somebody just whispers "Matty's been in" and the matter's hastily forgotten. It's all a bit like the unmentionable creepy 'mad woman in the attic' in Jane Eyre.
Anyway mate, best to let sleeping dogs lie on this one...say nah more.

There is more on the conveyor belt and they must be allowed to prosper.
The signings we are making are all geared to the future. No flash in the pans, all of them have been doing well enough and knew by coming here and training with this squad we have that their game would improve.
Young lads coming through are being coached in the right manner, Oxo was a prime example of good habits learnt well early.
We all cheer on the Saints and boast of our youth system, but now and again we must be prepared for one or two of them to try to step up and learn. Sometimes you can learn as much from a mistake as you do from getting it brilliantly right. Ask Punch !

Positivity in a Saints' fan is so much more important than pedantry, isn't it?

Did anyone watch the Football League Show and marvel at how nice the 'backstage' bit at SMS looks? The changing rooms are well plush innit.

I'm just reading on The News site that Poopey are calling for more loanees....are they serious???

In fact, I think they deserve to have a diamond encrusted 60k stadium built for them at tax payers and local supplier's expense...and have a "rent-a-crowd" jetted in to fill it every match. They won titles and cups during the Boer War ffs...they deserve it! ;O)

The best way to maximise Lee's marketing potential would be to run the next pre-season in Japan. Some good teams in the J League to test us out AND it's almost in my time zone! I could pop up to watch a game or two.....

StrI totally agree, Bill.
Furthermore, given that all the half-decent (no, let me rephrase that ..... the word 'decent' is NOT appropriate when discussing Poopey) ..... all the top Prem teams are just about out of the FA Cup, it would make sense for the FA to simply hand the thing over to Poopey. After all, they had a good run this year ...... well, when I say 'RUN', I mean that they had a good run around, chasing shadows at the Bridge. So, by rights, they deserve it. And, whilst the FA is at it, I think they might as well hand over the Prem to them as well. I know they're technically not in the Prem at the moment (but will be next year when they win through the play offs, as several of them tried to convince themselves recently) but the rules as to who should be crowned Prem champs ought to be changed from 'the team gaining the most points after all matches have been played' to 'the team who, having fcuk€d up big time and are now feeling really sorry for themselves but not a bit sorry about all the mess they have caused' should immediately be installed as Premiership winners.
Simple!
And the Skates say that we are being uncharitable towards them. Pah!

as for wolves going for poyet, I think readings brian mcdermott is a better bet.don't think our nige would want to leave a half finished job and I for one wouldn't want to see him go.but he has done a good job so far with us he would be on any managers most wanted list I think.
