NIGEL Adkins is relishing the opportunity for Saints to have a rest from midweek action.
The club have no fixture before next Saturday’s trip to Watford, meaning they have a rare full seven days to recover and prepare.
Not since early January have Saints avoided a midweek fixture in their schedule.
While Adkins has always expressed his confidence in the squad’s ability to cope with a heavy workload, he is also happy that he and the players can put their feet up in the evenings this week.
“We give ourselves an opportunity to recover from some knocks and injuries and get a good week’s training under our belt,” he said.
“We’ve got 14 games of the season left, everyone’s got to be ready to go out and give everything for the cause, and it’s not about 11 players it’s about the full squad.”

I loved Aaron Martin's piece on the O/S which affirmed how hard they work and how they are committed to the squad ethic.. It's all about squad performing and interchangeability and playing the way they love. He said Nigel could change the whole team and they would still play the same game. I love that. Team that haven't got it won't get far.
I love everything about the way Nigel runs his squad and the way makes his changes, the way places are earned and his every positive approach to this beautiful game and this fantastic club.
Keep it up Nigel.. can't wait for the Prem and Europe in future years.
Feet well and truly on the ground though... game at a time and working hard.

it is saturday the 28th of april, the last week of competition games and southampton can either win the championship or be runners up, (win will make us win a loss and we are runners up). At the other end of the championship table is portsmouth who if win jump over coventry who southampton play and avoid relegation.
therefore my question is, Would you rather see southampton win and come first in the championship, or would you rather see southampton let coventry win, inso letting them avoid relegation, southampton coming second, and portsmouth relegated.
where would you want to be??

I feel there are 9 if not 10 winnable games in the 14 we have left but we need to start winning away from home and starting at Watford will do nicely.
Other teams in the top 6 have to play more games against each other than we have (4) so points will be dropped by the chasing pack.
We need the whole momentum to be in full swing including the brilliant fans home and away acting as the twelfth man.
Let's fill St Mary's for our remaining games and sell out our away ticket allocations and roar the team on to victory.

Others must earn every point from us the hard way. Each and every player in The Saints squad will work their hearts out to get in the starting team and then will fight them for every point. The will fight for second of play from whistle to whistle, Then they'll train their hardest again to win a start against the next lot to try and take a point from the mighty SFC.
Every point lads.. They are ours.. the opposition will have to cut them from you!!

It's something I think most of us have thought about.
I for one would never want Saints to throw a game. Ask Brighton fans about our last promotion to the top flight when we bored our way to a convenient 0-0 last-day draw against Spurs. Spurs went up, BHA didn't.
As I remember it, Poopey had nothing much at stake when they lost to WBA and, as things turned out, they could have (yes, could HAVE not could OF) won and we'd still have been relegated. What was disgusting was the skates celebrating when WBA scored.
So, as much as I want the disgustingly run club that is PFC to suffer the biggest demise possible, (not because it's them but because FIFA/UEFA et al needs to be shocked into seeing what a mess badly run, over-spending clubs have helped get the whole of football into - and the liquidation of PFC might just provide that shock) it doesn't matter to me what the situation is on the last day of the season, we must play to win.
However, it's precisely because of the crazy, unmanageable financing at clubs like PFC (and Chelsea etc.) that have caused the knock-on financial mess apparent at other clubs such as Coventry and Plymouth.
So, good luck to Coventry and Plymouth. It's sad to see clubs like that in trouble and I hope both recover soon.
Sleep well, Pete and send some Sydney sunshine!

Even if we were already champions and beating Coventry sends them down instead of Pompey, we should still play to win. Saints should never lower our standard to those of other clubs, especially that apology of a football club down the M27. What does it say about the moral code of a set of fans who cheered WBA scoring against their own team because it helped send Saints down. May the great club that is Southampton FC never sink so low.

I personally think it is a great question, but I also think that in reality Portsmouth will be down (or gone) by then. Portsmouth never really got us relegated, they delude themselves, we had 37 other games that consigned us to our relegation. However, the table has turned and I for one am very proud of our team, and we have done it the right way, with a budget and a proffessional manner. We have not cheated our way to the top, unlike Portsmouth in years gone by....

I hope that we batter Pompey when they come here and gain revenge for everything thrown at us in the last few years.
And in their last game I hope Forest do the same and save themselves.
I would never wear the shirt of an opponent and cheer when they scored against us, what sort of sick person does that.
