But if the starting 11 are struggling and we need to bring on an impact sub then Lee is going to have more impact than Sharp because of his pace. So many of our earlier wins came from great substitutions. The injuries led to a bad run but not so much because of their impact on the starting line up more because of having weak benches.

That's my point, the squad is too big. We need strength in depth but it still needs pruning. De Ridder was very much one usually better off the bench than starting.
