it might depend if you do get 40.000 then you have a much better budget and bigger named players will come to the club .imagine like in the 80s we sign keegan you could fill loads of seats .the trouble is you would have to much parking problems and to close to town center traffic ,to move to a new stadium was mentioned by cortesse before .so i do not think stmarys will ever be expanded

Seedhouse we agree on capacity of 40,000. But as a boss would it not work out that the price of the tickets could be priced a little lower with a capacity of say 50,000 than the price for 40 k ??

Here Here Bracknell, boiler man wants to be clever but does no know the diferrence between "by" and "buy", however I go to as many games as I can, that was 3 this season and that would have cost me more than 1 season ticket for those games with travel etc and that is still small change compared to Pete from Australia, the only thing that makes anyone a bigger fan is height and girth

I lived in Japan for 8 years, and like the guys down under I had to stay up till the middle of the night to keep up. In the latter days, I had Sky Sports, so got to see games live several times a year, and a PC so i could listen to the commentary on line till god knows what time. In the early days I was there, before the internet got common enough to be affordable, I had a SW radio, and because my block of flats was in a dead spot for mobiles/radio signals, I had to go out, in the middle of winter, to the car park, and try and listen to the last 15 minutes of whatever was the chosen game and full time round up of results, on a very weak and crackly BBC World Service reception...I got to see two games live in those 8 seasons, but I felt as big a fan as any! Since then even though back in the UK work took me away, life got mental, a divorce and child support payments mean it's just not easy to go too often, but I dream every week about getting down there for a game. Problem is even if I can afford it, and can get down for the weekend, doesn't mean I can get a ticket, but no bleating-that's the sign of us being a successful club, and the only properly supported team in Hampshire!
One thing I do sometimes wonder when I do get to a game though is how quiet, and/or generally negative, a lot of the 'regulars' who are sat around me have seemed to be? I want them to get behind the team more, but then I suppose you pays your money....

agree totally , i couldn't get a ticket for the coventry game but i didn't bleat about it ........ if some people had their way we'd only need a 25k seater stadium !

I lived in Japan for 8 years, and like the guys down under I had to stay up till the middle of the night to keep up. In the latter days, I had Sky Sports, so got to see games live several times a year, and a PC so i could listen to the commentary on line till god knows what time. In the early days I was there, before the internet got common enough to be affordable, I had a SW radio, and because my block of flats was in a dead spot for mobiles/radio signals, I had to go out, in the middle of winter, to the car park, and try and listen to the last 15 minutes of whatever was the chosen game and full time round up of results, on a very weak and crackly BBC World Service reception...I got to see two games live in those 8 seasons, but I felt as big a fan as any! Since then even though back in the UK work took me away, life got mental, a divorce and child support payments mean it's just not easy to go too often, but I dream every week about getting down there for a game. Problem is even if I can afford it, and can get down for the weekend, doesn't mean I can get a ticket, but no bleating-that's the sign of us being a successful club, and the only properly supported team in Hampshire!

Spot on Bracknell and it brought back memories for my time during the '80/90s when I was often elsewhere. My favourite memory is listening (somehow) to World Service Saturday Sports with Paddy Feaney (in early 1990, I think). Saints were playing at Wimbledon and losing 3-1 but pulled it back to 3-3.

I remember it because I was sat on an orange box in the middle of an old coach journeying somewhere in deepest Indonesia in the late evening/middle of the night.

So many memories, such as dashing home drunk from a party in Melbourne in 1989 to hear 'And there's another goal at The Dell in the Southampton-Liverpoo

l match', and thinking oh **** and then hearing that we were 4-1 up.

agree totally , i couldn't get a ticket for the coventry game but i didn't bleat about it ........ if some people had their way we'd only need a 25k seater stadium !

Don't get me started on this. I went to 8 home games and 6 away games this season so I'm a bit of a low life peasant I know. I go when I can and I fecking love it. If I did however have the time to go to every game we played I'm fairly sure I wouldn't disappear up my own jacksy and look down my nose at those less fortunate.

Maybe not everyone can afford either the money, or the time, or even both, to be able to go every week. Some people live a long way away, and want to make catch up with a game when lucky enough to get home.
I really despise this grading of fans we get on here sometimes. We're all massive Saints fans, we all love the team, we all make our own sacrifices etc to follow the team, so because you can't go every week , or only once a season even, doesn't make you less of a fan.

agree totally , i couldn't get a ticket for the coventry game but i didn't bleat about it ........ if some people had their way we'd only need a 25k seater stadium !

Don't get me started on this. I went to 8 home games and 6 away games this season so I'm a bit of a low life peasant I know. I go when I can and I fecking love it. If I did however have the time to go to every game we played I'm fairly sure I wouldn't disappear up my own jacksy and look down my nose at those less fortunate.

It will also mean you are on the data base and if tickets were in limited supply you would have no problem getting one, due to the number of games you attend.
My point is since we were relegated from the premiership thousands of fans suddenly found it hard to get to games.
Now we are back they will find the time and money to go and if they can't get a ticket they will be the first people to moan about availability.
I can't afford to pay for my ticket in one go so I save all year, just £10 a week this is a decision I have made to enable me to do something I like.

this is an excellent point . i can walk to sms but not to stoneham ....... personally i propose we expand sms .

this is an excellent point . i can walk to sms but not to stoneham ....... personally i propose we expand sms .

true ,, but a bigger SMS has to blend in otherwise objections will be huge and it will be delayed and delayed and delayed..... I really love SMS and would love a 45K stadium there.. but I just can't see common sense prevailing and SCC doing their part... now labour are at the helm, its even more remote... not a politcal poke, its just their priorities are not on song...

Last time I checked St Denys train station is a vaguely pleasant (at least when the tide is in) 10 minute stroll along the river to SMS.

totally agree, but SMS and the local area could not cope with a 45K stadium... remember the extra 15,000 supporters would mostly be hoover up from outside the city so M27 is vital... I would not be happy, but it makes sense, I can bus in, walk, or drive to woolston and hop over the bridge...... but the lack of foresight with SCC in making SMS able to cope with the local roads etc etc was ridiculous... no train link was stupid beyond reason.... I can't see Nicola wanting to expand SMS...

You are wrong about if we get 30000 every game ,I think it will be brilliant. I can remember some great night's the last time we were in the prem with full houses it was brilliant.
My only beef is people who moan about how unfair life is, there are a lot of things I would like to do but can't for one reason or another but I don't say how unfair it is. I bet you don't moan if you can't get a ticket for games you probably get on with it.
It's a bit like away games with a small allocation and big demand, not everyone who goes to away games can get one, the people who have been to most come first, which is the way it should be, rather than moan the attitude should be good luck to the lucky one's.
Lets get full houses next season, stay in the prem and then expand the ground to give others an opportunity. What I wouldn't want to see is money wasted on the ground and people not turning up, the atmosphere would be affected.

This is what I thought you were saying, Boilerman (my post @4.43).

As for enlargement, it seems to come back again and again to traffic problems. The solution seems to be a train station but I remember the idea was muted when SMS was built and Lowe said it just wasn't practical.

Does anyone know why? I've never understood the problem and hope it will one day happen.

it might depend if you do get 40.000 then you have a much better budget and bigger named players will come to the club .imagine like in the 80s we sign keegan you could fill loads of seats .the trouble is you would have to much parking problems and to close to town center traffic ,to move to a new stadium was mentioned by cortesse before .so i do not think stmarys will ever be expanded
