Swansea and Norwich the inspiration to us all

Swansea and Norwich the inspiration to us all Swansea and Norwich the inspiration to us all

SAINTS should take inspiration from Norwich and Swansea - and so will West Ham if they emulate Saints in winning promotion to the Premier League.

Both the Canaries and the Swans have confounded the odds after their promotion from the npower Championship and have guaranteed their place in the top flight next season.

West Ham edged closer to joining them - as well as Saints and Championship title winners Reading - by beating Cardiff 5-0 on aggregate in the play-off semi final and Hammers assistant manager Neil McDonald wants to replicate them.

"West Ham is a massive football club," he said.

"Since I got here I could see the support, see how the club is run and how it is trying to progress.

"But the inspiration is Norwich and Swansea to a certain extent.

"They have gone up and done fantastically well and I am sure Reading and Southampton will be thinking the same.

"They will have huge hope considering what has happened this season with Norwich and Swansea.

"We all hang on to that so if we do get promoted then we can do exactly the same."

I will be happy with 4th from bottom as part of the next 5 year plan.
.
4 Signings, and some youth players coming through will be the story of the season.

Nah, don't want to emulate a Swan or a Canary.

A Horned Guan would be okay - or a Black Bellied Storm Petrel.
And it'd be good fun being a Little Bustard appointed as goalkeeper. I can hear it now: "Whhhhoooooaaaa - you Little Bustard!"

yes in fairness both have done well.
Our young players are a year or 2 off being ready for the first team at this level i would of thought. As they were geared to come through in a couple of years.
4/6 players I would think coming in. That will help take our squad to the next level.
Our record against the teams in the top 6 was 11 points out of 30. Which shows we definately need to strengthen. Which we will.

I know what you mean .... but ..

WE ARE THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON.

WE HAVE THE AMBITION.

doing a norwich or swansea is not good enough for this Club.

Looking ahead to the next 10 Years ... the very minimum Saints Fans will accept is a Top Ten Finish. (year on year)

Fans have talked about we're not competing with the likes of chelski etc

WRONG ANSWER

Every Team in the Premier League including manure, city, ars*nil .. liverpooool etc

WE WILL HUNT DOWN - AND WE WILL GO FOR THE SCALP THE WIN AND 3 POINTS.

WE DEMAND SUCCESS.

EVERY SAINTS FANS EXPECTS ....

Nigel to do some good business and be ready to WIN-WIN-WIN.

Played west brom pre-season last year and got a draw having been behind at home. Good then - not good enough NOW.

Played manure in FA Cup and Nigel was asked if we deserved anything from the game - He said he was not sure. Good goal from Chappers then - and winning at half time until nani came on. Not good enough NOW !!!!

manure and the players are not a very nice team - but one thing is for sure ... fergie does not like it up him and at St Mary's he will f*cking get it from Southampton's Red Army.

WE WILL TURN ST MARY'S INTO A FORTRESS.

NO FEAR. NO SURRENDER.

FIGHT AND WIN.

The Daily Echo ran a poll recently about where the SAINTS need to strengthen.

IMO - The results produce a distortion about what areas we need to improve.

JUST TO BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR !!

1. We need to IMPROVE our GOALKEEPING SQUAD - FACT.

2. We need a RB and review Defensive line.

3. We need a CB to challenge Jose (who was inconsistent this Season) and keep Jos on his Toes.

That is CRUCIAL to Defensive Success.

4. We need Pace from Midfield and a creative goal scorer.

5. As well as the BRILLIANT RICKIE with Tadanari Lee as a foil and Billy we need a STRIKER like Hooper (Celtic) to bang in goals game after game and provide a winning solution if Rickie gets injured etc.

WE NEED THESE PLAYERS AS WELL AS OUR PROMOTION WINNING SQUAD TO CONTINUE THE SUCCESS STORY.

TOGETHER LET'S DELIVER THE AMBITION ...(and keep the finances right)

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE WINNING AND THE GOALS !!!

Redarmy1,

You have brought us all back to life. Seems everyone on here is a state of shock and lethargy.
P.S.T. (Post Season Trauma) I suppose.
Even the Echo is struggling to find a topic.
Your posts have been like a punch on the nose.
None of this namby-pamby nonsence about surviving 4th to bottom of the prem.

NO!!!!!

We are moving on to the new level.
Us fans, that followed home and away last season demanded and received promotion again, this was only the beggining of our realistic expectations.
Our great manager knows this and he WILL prevail.
Our aim is the SUMMIT of the Prem and Europe.
I am sick of hearing-----

"SOUTHAMPTON-- ,WHO ARE THEY?"--- "some provincial side I think."
We are going to hear, "SOUTHAMPTON",------
------- "Oh yes they are a top Premier league football team."

PRIDE OF THE SOUTH COAST

Keep up the good work Redarmy1.

In the last year Swansea spent £11.3m on players, recouping £400k. Norwich spent £13.1m, recouping £400k. Both have also relied on loan signings from bigger clubs and both are in the lower half of the table. If we look at these 2 clubs as a model for success we are fooked. We are superior to these clubs in terms of our wealth, structure, facilities, fan base and stadium. Bit more ambition please! Swansea and Norwich are places you go to die of old age or if your sat nav is playing up. We are a busy up and coming port city with a very bright future in football and in business. So there.

Yes, there is. It's designed to coincide with the passing of the Olympic flame through Southampton and St Mary's at circa 1830 on July 14th.
.
There was a whisper that Arsenal would be attending as part of the AOC deal but how true that is I do not know.
