Blackburn relegated from Premier League

Blackburn relegated from Premier League Blackburn relegated from Premier League

Antolin Alcaraz headed a late winner as Wigan condemned Blackburn to relegation and ensured their own Barclays Premier League survival tonight.

The Latics defender powered in from a corner with four minutes remaining as the visitors completed their remarkable survival act and hammered the final nail in Rovers' miserable season.

Blackburn supporters, perhaps already resigned to their fate, had turned the game into one long protest against manager Steve Kean and owners Venky's and several invaded the pitch at the final whistle.

A live chicken had even been released early in the game, presumably in protest against Indian poultry giants Venky's, whose takeover in 2010 is pinpointed by many as the start of the club's demise.

The hen, draped in Rovers colours, walked around Ali Al Habsi's goal area before it was caught by the Wigan goalkeeper and Blackburn striker Ayegbeni Yakubu and carried away by a steward.

By then there had already been several anti-Kean or Venky's chants from the supporters.

With banners as well, the Rovers fans were preoccupied with the state of their club with the action clearly of secondary importance.

Saints will now meet Wigan for the first time ever in a league game next season.

The Latics were promoted to the Premier League in the same season, 2004/05, that Saints were demoted from the top flight.

Yes, well done that team who are aiming to replace the Skunts.

Oh yes, the mighty Skunts - the team with the greatest fans ever and with a most amazing and incredible history, which is the envy of the entire football world.

Now, remind me, who is it who could be replacing them in the Championship next season?

Ah, yes, mighty Stevenage Borough.

Bolton aren't down yet. Personally, I hope they stay up and QPR go down. I want a trip to the Reebok next season.

Ha. This post has made me realise that ''the Skunts'' new local derbies will now be with Bournemouth & Crawley!! That is of course if they even make it to the start of next season.

Chicken won man of the match.

No one will buy pompey they have no assets and only debt.
If they survive it will be BC or supporters trust. Neither will place finance, so they will be dependent on free transfers and low wages.
If they survive, another difficult season looms.

As for us, I think we are looking to Europe for players. England is over priced. When you see Chelsea and Arsenal paying 8-9m for internationals and Burnley wanting 8.3m for Rodriguez.

Keane is okay, few resources to play with like several clubs and at the end someone has to get relegated. Like any manager if the players don't step up to the plate, then you are shafted.

We are lucky we have NA. Technically sound, a motivator and communicator. His big test is how he judges the European transfer market.
A good season will see him linked to Manure and Liverpool.
Hopefully having come through the ranks with us, his heart will be here.

We MUST save this chicken before the Skunts sign it. No innocent creature should be handed such a fate - let alone such a hentertaining one as this.

With the Prem money our coop runneth over and given the cheep price (mere chicken feed) involved we should peck it up.

Otherwise that Skate WUM will be back on here every week going "Tick-tock a doodle doo!"

Well, I hate to profit from the misery of other teams, but I hope this opens the door for us to reunite Scott Dann and Roger Johnson in central defense. They were an immense partner ship for Birmingham City and could be snapped up relatively cheap now.Come on Nigel and Nicola, that would be amazing for us! Jose and Jos will take time to bed into the Premier. They will have their roles to play but we need experience from the off!

Seedhouse the Unrepentant says...

Jos will perform well in the Prem he has been very solid and is incredibly positive about the club and his team mates. Maybe he should be captain.

I would have said the same about Jose but he went off a bit and seemed to start shirt tugging alot which I hadn't noticed him do before. Maybe he was carrying a minor injury?

I know they are good players but do we really want 2 players that have been relegated 2 seasons in a row (with 3 different clubs).

Seabourne was doing well last season until injury. Deserves the chance to see if he can make it.

Thoughts on A Martin.
He was centre back during our worst run of the season, has he got what it takes for premiership?

If they were that immense why did Birmingham get relegated?
They have both had two seasons of defeat, I think we need players with the winning habit.
I would have taken Johnson last season , but he appears to have lost his way a bit.
If they came on the cheap and agreed to our wage structure ,then maybe one would be worth a gamble, but if they want stupid money forget it.
I think players must be rewarded for success not failure.

Send him out on loan, to get a full season under his belt in league 1.
Then we can judge him fairly.
I think he is young enough for
Nigel to give a bit of time to prove himself, if he doesn't then he could still have a decent career in the lower leagues.

There's a lot of chicken talk on here today.

Maybe it's a sign that we're going to get these players in:
David BEAKham
Wayne HENnessey
Darren HENderson
Richard EGGersley
And half of Bradford City's academy are on their way apparently. Well, they are called The Bantams!

However, rumours that Robbie FOWLer is coming out of retirement to aid our cause is, of course, just a **** and bull story. Although, it was good to read of the imminent return, at the age of 63, of ex-Saint, Phil Broiler.

Yep, it's looking good. By the start of the new season, we'll certainly have signed all the right (p)layers!

Here is a link to the current tables
.
http://www.premierle
ague.com/en-gb/match
day/premier-reserve-
league-table/
.
It only shows 2 leagues (North & South) with 8 clubs in each -I don't know where the other 4 teams are (Spurs, qpr, stoke, man city), I would have thought that they have large enough squads to entered a team ??
.
Therefore it appears there is a reserve league but it does not mean Saints will enter a team.

Shame they went down, as I don't think any of their players are worth signing. I'd take Yakubu, but I don't think he'd be happy not being first team. i like Robinson, but think Davis deserves a chance, and he's not going to be a 2nd keeper. Hope we don't sign Roger johnson from Wolves, I remember reading somewhere he has a big ego, and was walking around like he owned the place at Wolves. I want Bolton to go down so we can try and sign Mark Davies, a good young midfielder.

I like Martin, I think it's unfair to blame our worst run just on the one player. I remember in pre-season he looked class alongside Jaidi, despite having to cover everything as Jaidi had no pace. Definately one for the future.

I don't post on the site down the road but occasionally look.
I think the penny is just beginning to drop that no-one is coming to the rescue.
The realism is there well may not be a pompey next season.
For all the rivalry, that often gets out of hand I know. For all the banter. I as a football fan don't want to see any club disappear.
Not a popular view I know. But as long as we are in our rightful place above them and can give them a couple of thrashings on the park, I am happy.
To see any club liquidated is sad for football, even if it is them down there.
But then I grew up in an age where Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs were more our rivals than pompey

I am wondering actually why so many people are ready to dump Seabourne. When he was playing well and the team were winning.
Is it coincidence since he has been out Fonte on occasion has been caught for pace.
Seabourne was playing in the most successful period of the season and playing well.
