Defoe is the best shout with Ricky Lambert , Barton at number 6 and someone fast on the right , Robert Green for Goalie , sorted.
If we get Barton I'm supporting Pompey or someone else utterly rubbish that fleeces charities. Then again, I don't think Cortese would like somebody with those "ethics" on the team so thank god I'm safe.

Why are people lowering our sights? I don't expect us to get any big names really but everyone's banging on about L1 and/or championship players with no prem experience (unless you count watching it on the tv experience) we need more established prem players, just a few to guide the rest of the squad in the right direction but I'm guessing NA and NC know this. Just open your minds and look at a few lesser known names that have done well in the prem and there may lie our solution.
I read your post with interest,I personally am getting pretty miffed with people dripping on about "lets sign someone with prem experience" Why ? Lets gets this sorted out,the bottom half of the prem is barely up to the standard of the top half of the championship,in fact if you analyse the quality of football on offer, the top of the championship is the equivalent of midtable prem at least.
Now then, take teams like everton for example who struggle financially, but have some degree of stability which has maintained their premiership existence, the saints team that came up would play them off any park you care to mention. Sooo when any player is mentioned that has performed well in the championship its my humble opinion that they will do the bizz in the prem.
Why on earth would we want some worn out journeyman who has flattered to deceive in the next div up ? inflated wages, living on past glories and wants to be put out to grass, please NA get hungry players who still have some ambition left. Owen ,NOOOO,heskey NOOOOO etc etc ,Jay rod ,yes please. Oh and for gods sake get a keeper in asap who can give the great KD some sleepless nights."

Southampton 'make £6m-plus offer' for Jay Rodriguez claim reports

Saints have reportedly offered in excess of £6m for Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez.

Nigel Adkins failed in his pursuit to sign the highly-rated forward during last summer's transfer window, but it appears the club have now gone back in for the 22-year-old as they look to strengthen the squad for their Premier League return.

The Clarets are ideally hoping to receive £8m for the player, who has one year left to run on his contract, but were said to be mulling over the offer from Saints, according to reports from Lancashire.

However, this afternoon Burnley's head of media, Darren Bentley, claimed the club had received no bids for the young striker, who is also said to be attracting the attention of Sam Allardyce at West Ham.
