I think that the echo get's a bit carried away with its reporting.A player transferred to Southampton from a Championship side, for an alleged 7m,though some reports say less,is now tipped to play for England. He has not played one minute for Saints and nor he has he played in the Premier League.
If he is a future England player
I am sure any one of PL sides closer to Burnely would have picked him up by now and probably for a lot more money.
    Let's wait and see.
the answer to that one the other clubs would not want to match what burnley wanted for him so they got the best deal ,maybe jay feels with saints first season in the top tier he has more chance of getting in the team ,and he also knows nigel adkins very well ,nigel rates him highly .and with adkins i would back that judgement ,most burnley fans cant stand it he come to saints ,lets not forget he will know cork in fox well ,they both advised him to make the move .and for that reason jay is now a saint ,and soon we can judge we have ,be interesting will he partner lambert .or will he play on the right with ricky and billy up front ,as we paid a million for sharp also ,exciting times coyr"

Rodriguez tipped for England future

Jay Rodriguez Jay Rodriguez

SAINTS’ new signing Jay Rodriguez has the ability to become a fully-fledged England international, according to the striker’s mentor.

Ade Akinbiyi played with the 22-year-old hotshot at Burnley and now acts as an advisor for him.

He believes £7m Rodriguez, who has already been capped at under-21 level for his country, will eventually become a senior international.

“One hundred per cent,” declared Akinbiyi. “I’ve got every confidence he’s going to go to the top."
