Saints striker lands PFA award
2:15pm Friday 15th June 2012 in Saints News
Jay Rodriguez
New Saints striker Jay Rodriguez has been voted the Professional Football Association's fans' player of the year for the 2011/12 Championship season.
That follows his 21 goals for the Clarets last season.
Arsenal’s Robin van Persie has won the PFA Premier League award.
It is the third award won by the Holland international for his prolific form last season, having already landed the PFA players' and writers' awards.
Van Persie scored 37 goals in 48 appearances for Arsenal and is now recognised as one of Europe's top players.
"Robin had an exceptional season and has established himself in the mould of previous top quality Dutch strikers such as Dennis Bergkamp, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Marco Van Basten," said PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor.
"He's very much in demand and Arsenal fans will be worrying whether Arsenal can get him to stay or whether he will move on to the likes of Manchester City.
"Many of his goals were the best of not just this season, but any season when you think of the quality of some of his volleys.
"He really has been a talisman for Arsenal and as captain has lifted them into qualifying for the Champions League again when all looked lost."
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Jose Semedo won the League One award while Lewis Grabban, the Rotherham United forward, was recognised in League Two.
Grabban has since also moved to the south coast, to join Bournemouth.

I cannot wait for the start of the season, it's so boring without Saints!

Looking forward to seeing him receive them playing for our great football team.

Headline is a bit misleading as it was as a Burnley player he was recognised as the PFA player of the season.

90% of this is about RVP! Well done Jay. Glad we've bought a future legend. England to win tonight.

No mention of "Full story in tonights Daily Echo" either, mainly because this is a Burnley story not a Saints one.
Still, it was football based so I can put my cat back his basket. Alicescat rermains a legend.
England to win? Hope so I really want a 2-0 win for England as Im in a web based Euro competition and thats my prediction. We have never beaten Sweden in a competitive match, that is a staggering statistic. Where is John Motson when you need him !
Check out the video on the BBC website about Roy Hodgson when he was in Sweden. Hodgson is a legend out there and was probably the main reason Swedish football reached its high standard.
Hodgson was completely off my radar until he managed Switzerland and even then I only heard about him rarely. He deserves his shot at the big job and Im right behind him. He's been quietly brilliant for years, I hope he can retire one day having led England to a major trophy on the international stage.

Why oh why did we ever let Anders Svensen go???
